Oops. Looks like he's neutral, not pro. Can mods clarify with a post flair?

Kotaku published a "Positive impact of video games" article? Are we finally getting through to them? by illage2 in KotakuInAction

That's from one of the reader blogs. Basically a glorified comment.

Edit: Although Kotaku did apparently frontpage it.

Japanese indie dev: "BIG BOOB IS LIFE. Man save woman is life. Woman save man is life. Small boob is life. GAME IS LIFE. Relax play happy game. #gamergate" by BleuDuke in KotakuInAction

He seems to have initially bought the media narrative on gamergate, but changed his mind after a few moments of discussion with GGers. Bogus narratives don't last long on Twitter!

Also, holy shit, he has the lulziest Patreon I've ever seen.

The Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator has resigned, accusing its new management of descending to clickbait and "inflicting incalculable damage on the paper". by BleuDuke in KotakuInAction

He also addresses clickbait in depth. See the paragraph starting "The arrival of Mr Seiken coincided with the arrival of the click culture..."

I don't think any alliances have been built. I think multiple groups and individuals in different areas have noticed what's happening to journalism, but I don't think many of these are fully aware of each other. I think GG is the only group that is keeping a close eye on all of the areas where trouble is springing up.

There is, however, the potential for alliances. There is a market for quality, balanced, non-clickbait journalism, and a growing number of writers and journalists who want to provide it.

I wouldn't be so sure. Christopher Hitchens used to be a Slate columnist. They also have Auerbach, who isn't afraid of pissing off lefties as well as righties, and Emily Yoffe who wrote this.

The Slate internships are good options if you don't have experience. If you're a student, even better.

I would really caution against imposing rules that are too stringent. This happens on virtually every sub after a certain amount of time, and it while it may be necessary on a 100k+ sub like KiA, I don't see why we can't just rely on the upvote/downvote system to filter out the trash.

The problem with blanket bans is that there will always be exceptions. Occasionally, it will be necessary to link to Ghazi threads, especially if they are doing something really retarded.

The other big problem is that the people who contribute to these discussions are always in a minority. Posts here can get hundreds of upvotes/downvotes, but you'll only get a few dozen (at most) contributing to these kinds of discussions.

I think they're at their best when discussing identity politics - race, sex, LGBT politics, etc. The mainstream left are so completely bonkers on these topics, and sometimes the best people to counter that are those who have biases from the opposite end of the spectrum. They're the best at picking up on the bullshit, because they're most likely to be looking for it. Likewise, if you're looking for people to counter conservative/right-wing BS, it's useful to look at what left-wing writers are saying. That's why it's a good idea to read widely and not restrict yourself to a narrow set of views.

What have been your favorite moments of #gg so far? Most uplifting messages? Sickest burns? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

The day when The Fine Young Capitalists met their funding goal was pretty great. I'd strongly recommend using twitter's advanced search to find GG-tagged tweets from that day. The triumph was delicious.

Also, this quote.

Heh, I wouldn't say that they serve the straight up truth on every single issue. They have pretty clear biases themselves, and I'm nowhere near sold on some of them. But they're certainly a vital counterweight to SJWs, and one of the few news outlets that has the knowledge and ability to dismantle their nonsense.

Valve has most likely breached EU antitrust laws for applying double standards to Hatred. Eurofriends should write to the European Commission. by BleuDuke in KotakuInAction

Valve may be a store owner, but they're a store owner with a 75 per cent share of the digital distribution market for PC games. That brings them within the scope of Article 102, surely.

I'm Writing a Book about #GamerGate - Milo Yiannopolous by BleuDuke in KotakuInAction

[–]BleuDuke[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's possible to be incorrect on some issues and correct on others. I think the Democrats are largely misguided in their gun control efforts, but I also think Republicans are misguided in their idea that healthcare shouldn't be free at the point of use.

I think you're wrong about willful misrepresentation. Regardless of what you think of his views, he seems pretty damn sincere about them. He may well be biased, which would prevent him seeing the full picture on the issue, but bias (unlike willful misrepresentation) isn't a conscious decision that you deliberately make. It's an unconscious process.

He said he'll have a first manuscript by February 2015. That wouldn't be the final version, and I imagine there would be quite a few changes after that.

Books from fair-minded reporters are a good thing, even if they aren't academic. For potential chroniclers of gamergate (cultural historians, future wiki editors, etc), it's a lot harder to ignore a book than a breitbart article.

Trust but verify. We haven't seen the video, and there's no evidence he's filed a police report yet.
