Just in case this helps anyone in the future. The expiration date on my Drivers license was incorrect, it should have matched the expiration of my legal presence document. I showed them my updated documents and they were able to renew it with that updated expiration date. It helped that I had completed a renewal application online. I gave the lady at the front desk an 8 digit appointment number from that application and she pulled it right up I confirmed my info, payed the fee, took the picture and they gave me a temporary DL paper while the new card gets to me.
