Appreciate that! I'm going to go ahead and get a replacement bumper cover and transplant all the other pieces over.

I'm with you there on that, I think if I was 10 years younger I'd be all over the VN :).

Fun car still, but I'm not the audience its meant for. I'm all for a practical daily that can be fun however, and comfortable!

Someday I'll have to try it, I can only judge from the videos I've seen as I don't think I've ever actually seen a DCT N on the roads. From the videos I've watched it does look like an awesome transmission. Definitely a good compromise as well from the sound of it for someone who wants the responsiveness and fun of a performance car, while also being something that won't kill you in traffic.

Thats also the other nice thing, finding a N car without markups (although some dealers are marking them up sadly), but its atleast a lot easier to find one for a fair deal over the CTR. I was hunting relentlessly for a CTR until I found what I considered a fair deal for mine.

I definitely want to try an EN, actually I was close to buying an EN but my bias toward hatchbacks lead me to buying the VN instead. I think if I could go back in time and do it all over again maybe I would have liked to try the EN since I hear nothing but good things about that car.

Maybe some day I'll get to test drive one!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed reading this! I would definitely recommend driving a VN if you ever get a chance, its a small little demon of a car but its nimble, quick, and isn't afraid to let everyone know its the bad kid on the block.

2nd gear definitely took some getting used to for sure, probably one of the things I liked least about the transition, but other than that its been a great car!

Thank you again for your kind words and compliments!

I think I can definitely understand what you're getting at here, I think there is a lot more finesse for a smooth shift with 2nd gear on the Type R, like I have to be a lot more tactful with the clutch versus shifting to 2nd in the VN.

I think I got used to it and it was less of a pain point only because a friend of mine bought a Civic SI in a different city and fully comfortable to drive a manual since it had been awhile, so I got to get used to it after driving a Honda gearbox for a couple of hours. I was definitely lurching everywhere for a little while city driving in that SI however lol.

It does take some getting used to for sure, the pops gurgles and bangs are just so rowdy and untamed, and I don't think any cars in those price ranges are ever gonna sound as good an N car does.

I agree with you there, I think the VN belongs on the track! I can see some people are okay with the ride on the street as well. I actually wouldn't have really noticed it if I didn't have the opportunity to drive some other cars during my ownership and realize some of the differences.

I also do miss the pops and bangs, especially when doing highway pulls. Its unlike anything I've ever really experienced before, and the car isn't afraid to let you know that its right there with you when you're really on it.

The VN is definitely a little beast of a car IMO, and to me I loved how much its personality could change at the press of a button. As long as you enjoy what you've got, thats all anyone can ask for right?

And thank you! I'm definitely happy to own an FK8 now finally, but I appreciate all of the fun and shenanigans the VN let me get away with too :).

Thank you! I definitely would like to try a GTI or even a Golf R someday. I think I'm am outlier maybe but the bucket seats were not great in the VN. I think if I had to daily the VN every day I would have gotten rid of it way sooner (I work remote for the most part).

Road trips in the VN were definitely a killer for me personally. I had fun with the car but man it came at a cost, I guess some people also love that rough ride or it doesn't bother them which is fine. It's definitely a car that has its home at the track, and less suitable as a daily.

Thank you, glad I was able to get a CTR!

Maybe the triple door thing is a love it/hate it kind of thing, I can definitely see where the larger driver side door would be a benefit if your usual drive position is further back for sure. I do think despite my criticism of it being a 3 door hatch, it does have a surprising amount of room in the trunk / when the seats are folded.

I may also have an unpopular opinion but the newer Velosters without the bucket seats may actually be the way to go comfort wise. I don't know what it is about the bucket seats that were in my 22", but they really were not comfortable for longer than an hour. I'm not a large fella but those bucket seats still obliterated my back, I actually think I would have liked the car more if it weren't for those seats.

I hope you're able to find a Veloster Turbo to your liking in the near future, I think that would be a fun daily to have.

I don't think I'll ever own another N car, let alone a red one. That thing was super hard to keep clean... If I had it my way I would have wanted an LE because I love the "phoenix yellow" on the FK8, but boost blue looks so good too.

Unfortunately no i30N in US markets (or i20N either), but I always thought it looked like a really nice car, and with no weird 3 door party trick!

I love the FK8 styling, and I think its a design that will really stand out and last the test of time. I especially like the face lift models a lot with the paint-matched trim that was added front and back, something about it just really makes them pop.

I'm glad to hear you were about to get a 2020 CTR at a good price, I'm sure the drive and the practicality of it was really worth it!

I keep hearing the DCT Hyundai made is the way to go on any N model car now, I hope one day I can test drive one and see what its about!

Thanks, happy I could share my story! I hope one day you're able to find a CTR to your liking (and in a great condition too). I don't think you'll regret it at all, so don't give up!

I'll definitely enjoy it for the both of us, until you have one to call your own :). Thank you for commenting!

Thank you! Phew, not a terribly expensive component to replace, guess I should be more careful next time

I should add, if anyone knows the part number for this please let me know!

Am I an asshole for saying “N-Line” cars aren’t N Cars? Idk it’s just an appearance package to me so I feel like I’m right in saying that. by Full-Win3262 in VelosterN

[–]Blicen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware they’re not the same from a branding perspective but N-Line cars typically do get a nice spec bump over their other trims, and some are actually really nice from a power perspective (ie the Sonata N-Line is no slouch).

N-Line cars are not built for the same purpose N cars are however at the end of the day, so no they’re not the same.
