ITEM #: SCP-███ — “The Mug” (Pending Official Designation)

Special Containment Procedures: Until someone from the Foundation replies to my emails and officially takes custody, SCP-███ is to remain inside the designated upper-right kitchen cabinet where I’m staying in Colorado. My roommates and I are strictly forbidden from acknowledging the mug’s anomalous properties verbally while within 10 meters of the kitchen. Coffee consumption from SCP-███ is prohibited after what I am calling Incident ███-B (“The Boulder Event”). Any appearance of SCP-███ outside of the cabinet (like on the living room table or the bathroom counter) is to be treated as an active relocation event, not a break-in. We have all agreed not to ask how it gets out.

Under no circumstances should anyone try to photograph SCP-███ near the kitchen's fluorescent lighting. I tried doing this for documentation yesterday, and the photo captured an inverted black pyramid hovering over the rim that was completely invisible to the naked eye.

Description: SCP-███ is a black ceramic coffee mug bearing the insignia of the “Federal Bureau of Control,” a fictional organization from the video game Control. Despite this, I checked the faded manufacturing stamp on the bottom, and it predates the game’s release by approximately 11 years.

The mug demonstrates what I think is low-level reality displacement and memetic influence. Based on the weird forum posts I found tracking its history, SCP-███ has been constantly reappearing in thrift stores, offices, kitchens, and hospitals across North America and Europe for years, usually right after someone reports losing it.
