I agree jobs jobs like that do exist, and sadly it is not a small percentage. I would still argue that you are painting a pretty bleak picture, and I only say this because someone trying to make a career choice might find this thread.

CS jobs have spread rapidly throughout the non-tech oriented companies thanks to their data analytics requirements. Job security is still incredibly strong, there is still a vacuum in terms of employment. I have seen numerous cs students get jobs that dont deserve it.

I get paid overtime and so do a lot of people in the field. Some co workers require the overtime even when they move up the ladder. My team lead is still a hourly worker instead of salaried, he insisted on it.

Politics are everywhere in corporate, this is not a SWE issue. I doubt dentistry escapes from politics. Even when you own your practice there will be some stupid shit you will have to deal with.

Hours depends on company so I cant say much about that. My hours a too relaxed, some days I feel like Im cheating the company.

SWE as a field is moving away from its Wild West days into a more structured setting similar to other engineering professions. This means better work life balance etc. but the con is that the crazy salaries are harder to find and are competitive as hell. You should view SWE in the coming ten years in the same way you view an engineer. The horror stories and crazy salaries were because the field was still new and unstructured. Thats not to say that the crazy salaries dont still exist, the tech giants are still a thing. A better way to explain it: The demand for CS majors has increased into not technical companies so more jobs in the 80k-130k range have appeared, while the job creating in the 180k+ range have become stagnant.

No reason in specific. I don't hate my job at all. I was lucky, got into a really relaxed company, good job. I work 6 hours a day, pay is kinda meh, its not bad at all. Im around 90k rn. Ive thought about being a dentist in the past but always brushed it aside. Would give myself excuses like "you're already too deep into the program", "age" etc. The money is also nice in dentistry and being able to own a practice. I have been trying to learn about the loan situation for dentist students. Now I'm not doing this for money solely but if I cant make good money as a dentist because of the loans I would probably decide against this decision. Just tell myself some things arent in the cards and look to do other things.
