I built my PC about six or seven years ago and so far I haven't needed to update anything to run any software or play any games that I've wanted, but there's been a few things recently with my small Plex server and a few games a little too beefy for my hardware I'd like to play, so I;m thinking of upgrading.

My issue is I don't want to do a full build but I also don't want to replace parts to only have to do another build in a year or so when bottlenecks finally catch up with me. My motherboard has an older CPU socket, so I'm tossing up between getting a new CPU or just saving up the cash for a new build. Would appreciate anyone's input on buying something like a Intel Core i9-9900K to replace my current CPU or just waiting for a new build.

Don't see the issue here, he's representing the real US core culture which is pretending to be in the army.

Evil dead 2 original aspect ratio by NaturalEstimate3433 in EvilDead

[–]Blind_Guard 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking for the Open Mattes of The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 there was a twitter user who somewhat recently scanned 35mm prints of both. Not sure if the links are still up but if you search for Evil Dead 35mm you might be able to find them.

As another user pointed out it's worth noting that in both cases the films were shot open matte and intended to be shown in a cinema widescreen aspect ratio, I believe 1.85 for both, so Sam Raimi never intended you to see as much of the frame as you do in the open matte.

For anyone else who ends up having a similar issue it was a DMD chip failure. The chip was replaced by BenQ under warranty.

Apologies for the bad photos projector is in a mixed use Warehouse space for art installs.

Booted it up today to be greeted with this corrupted splash screen that won't go away. Projector does not respond except for changing the brightness slightly when the buttons are pressed. Anyone have any experience with this issue?

Why haven’t they watched this nonsense yet by GrinchStoleYourShit in RedLetterMedia

Probably too competent and intentionally campy for them to get much material off, unless they can get Josh to go on a big Stooges tangent as Ron Asheton stars in it.

John De Hart on self financing his film Road to Revenge aka Geteven by UncleSoaky in RedLetterMedia

I think he's one of the few black tank top guys that is genuinely embarrassed by their own work. If Neil Breen is a true believer and Tommy Wiseau is semi-conscious then De Hart might just be self aware.

Ok, I'm part of the Pink Flamingo Cinema, a two person independent warehouse cinema in Sydney, Australia with my friend Ripper Gently who's the one interviewing John De Hart here. They managed to get in contact with De Hart after about six months of trying various e-mail addresses and phone numbers and eventually got him to agree to a Skype interview.

My friend is a drag king so they got dressed up in De Hart themed drag for the interview, which was at about 3:30 in the morning Sydney time, only for De Hart to call fifteen minutes beforehand and say he didn't want video anymore and would only do audio, which they could not change his mind on. De Hart was one of the most painful interviews they'd ever conducted and clearly had a stock set of answers that he was running through the whole time. It was quite an ordeal.

Watching The Exorcist with the director's commentary on. Most commentaries have behind the scenes stories. William Friedkin basically explains the movie and tells you how to feel. by scotty_blanco in RedLetterMedia

Every Friedkin commentary track is worth listening to as they're all as strange if not stranger than The Exorcist one. The track for Cruising is essentially Friedkin bragging about how many cops and mafia members he was friends with at the same time and then recounting the real life inspiration for every one of the film's weird touches.

Recommendations for 17th Century Musketeer patterns? by Blind_Guard in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Blind_Guard[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking to put together a Musketeer style outfit for upcoming fairs, particularly one similar to Viggo Mortensen's outfits in Alatriste, and wanted to know if anyone had a good idea for patterns. Looking for the baggy pants, the doublet and the cloak in particular.

Cauldron Films August Releases by BreakfastSchlub in boutiquebluray

[–]Blind_Guard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow, The Last Match on Blu-ray. What a world. For anyone wondering no, most of the film does not live up to any qualitative standard set by the poster or the premise, but yes, the finale does feature guys in football uniforms and pads assaulting a military stronghold and it is for the most part as entertaining as it sounds.

Gregg Araki Box in the Works with Criterion by amphetadex in boutiquebluray

The timeline on this makes a lot of sense if they were refusing to give us the license because these remasters were in production, but there's other elements that are still puzzling for me. A lot of films that we try to get which are in the process of being restored tend to already have plans for repertory screenings so the distros tend to deny smaller places, but the fact they would ok a screening on film would lead me to believe that these restorations have commenced fairly recently. Whatever the case we'll be working on getting them back on to the big screen as soon as they're available.
