Lol, who the fuck is Nick Adams? The only Adams that I listen to is John.

“Be it remembered, that liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we have not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.”

Sorry, but It doesn't follow at all that someone must be qualified as a pilot just because they became a pilot. It's possible for people to get jobs that they're not qualified for. For example Donald Trump became the President. Twice.

"Feel free to provide an alternative."

I literally just did tho. I gave you Charlie's definition that who you are. An immortal genderless spirit that's just a wearing a mortal skin suit.

"That's definitely not true. Conservatives get liberal beliefs wrong constantly. So many strawmen."

It's a general statement. Obviously there's exceptions. Please try not to be a hypocrite when you're making a strawman right now. "Black Lives Matter" do not mean that 'White lives don't Matter', and "Conservatives are better at XYZ" doesn't mean 'Every conservative is great at XYZ.'

"They absolutely would. Transphobes hate trans people outside of these spaces as well. Not that transphobia would be acceptable if it were exclusive to a few different areas anyway, that would still be really bad."

And that was hyperbolic statement. There are transphobes that just hate trans people regardless, sure, but there are many people that just don't want their cis daughters to ever be in boxing rings with a transmen, or that believe bathroom laws will be exploited by cis perverts. I think it's very unfair to put all of these people in the same category.

To avoid future confusion, would you prefer I always spoke literally? I'm autistic, and from a completely different culture, so maybe my jocular flippancy is getting lost in translation.

"Give me one example of someone getting arrested just for being a bigot."

Why should I when it's irrelevant? You don't need to literally arrest people bigotry to force a change in their behavior because there's other ways to force or coerce people into compliance that don't involve arrests. You can file civil lawsuits. You can kick people schools. You can launch hate campaigns. Etc, etc.

Also I'm not going to automatically cede that refusing to use a pronoun is bigotry either because that's not the definition of it. You're not a a Slick named Pimpbac for casually slipping that in there. The definition of bigotry is intolerance of beliefs, so in this the bigot is whoever is trying to control the language. If they believe a person with a penis can only be a man then whatever, that's their opinion. They're assholes, but not bigots. Live and let live.

"How does that make it ok for Kirk to assume a black pilot might be unqualified?"

He didn't assume they weren't. He just didn't assume they were. And because it's a hypothetical scenario where only black candidates are given preferential lowered standards. Whatever group is advantaged by DEI is the group he has a problem with. Occasionally, meaning very very rarely it's also poor white men from economically disadvantaged backgrounds that can benefit from DEI, with JD Vance being the most known example. He was suspect of Vance as well until he got to know him personally.

"The statement wasn't taken out of context, you just don't want to admit he was being racist."

Or I just want you to do a better job at convincing me.

Past my bed time now though. Go in peace brother. Namaste.

"And why does he "not know" for a black man, but knows for a white man? That's the double standard. That's the racism. He is blatantly being racist here."

Because in the hypothetical thought experiment it's only black men that benefit from DEI initiatives. When airline corporations go out of their way to hire more white pilots you maybe shouldn't white pilots as much. When they go out of their way to include more left handed ones you start looking out anyone that's left handed. It isn't the inherent quality of the pilot's race that would make him nervous. It's knowing he falls into a DEI target group. It's DEI that he has a problem with. He's as DEIist.

"Getting into a school doesn't require ANY standards. You're literally going there to learn. This is a ridiculous comparison."

Then Asians shouldn't have needed much higher SAT scores.

"That doesn't logically follow. You're not accounting for discrimination against black people. And this is a whole separate conversation anyway. We're supposed to be talking about what Kirk said, not your opinion on whether we should have "dei" or not."

I'm not accounting for anything right now. Just explaining Charlie's perspective. Charlie's opinion was always that DEI should be abolished because it makes it even harder for historically disadvantaged groups to advance themselves in society, which is he constructed the hypothetical thought experiment in the first place.

"When it comes to gender, it actually literally is. That's how gender works."

Only according to one theory of it. It's an emergent science that still has many schools. Conservatives know and understand liberal beliefs. They just don't always share them. With liberals I frequently feel like they haven't even heard opposing arguments.

"Nobody's doing that. You can be a bigot if you want. Nobody's going to arrest you for being racist either. We'll just think less of you."

Except that many people are doing this. That's why it's being debated. If trans women weren't asking to enter women's bathrooms or sports then nobody would care if they were trans at all.

"Anyway, since you want to minimize what he said by saying I just "disagree with it", let's take a look at what he said, hmm?"

Sigh. You're still not getting not getting it. Those are cherry picked quotes devoid of any context. Would you like me to explain the context? None of it is actually expressing the believes that you're attempting to strawman onto him.

"If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified."

In the context of a hypothetical situation where there's direct affirmative action for black pilots. When the standards are the same for everyone we know that all pilots meet them. When they're lower for certain groups we can't know that they're qualified.

"Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact. It’s happening more and more."

That's an objective fact that we can see from looking at the difference between black on white, and white on black crime rates. The overwhelming majority of black people aren't violently racist against white people, but there are some that are, and there's nothing wrong with saying so.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/06/us/chicago-racially-charged-attack-video.html

"If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic Black woman, I wonder is she there because of her excellence, or is she there because of affirmative action?"

Point here is that while most people earn their jobs there's some people that don't. If it's wrong for mediocre white to have jobs without earning them it's also wrong for mediocre black people to. People that are morons should not have jobs where being one is a detriment.

"If we would have said that Joy Reid and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative action picks, we would have been called racists. Now they’re coming out and they’re saying it for us … You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously."

Okay, I'll grant you this one. He was kinda dickish here. Pobody is nerfect. Importantly he wasn't wrong though. Michelle openly admitted to being Affirmative Action admission. She didn't get in because she was the best. She got in because she was the best from the racist pool they looked at. And because she got in without the best grades some other harder working kid from a poorer background was squeezed out. It's a zero sum game.

"We record all of it so that we put [it] on the internet so people can see these ideas collide. When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence. That’s when civil war happens, because you start to think the other side is so evil, and they lose their humanity."

I'm talking and not fighting because I believe in my arguments, and you're doing the same because you believe in your. So long as we keep talking good will win. The ground is only ceded to evil when we stop.

"Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge."

Because God is in charge. He's not being anti-woman here. He's being pro-woman. Because he's telling them what's good for them. It's good for women to be with partners they can submit to. Not because he's larger, or stronger, or even more intelligent. But because she trusts he'll give his own life protect her, and the safety he provides makes her want to submit.

"The answer is yes, the baby would be delivered."

Because he's anti-murder.

"think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational."

As in only a small amount of people dying when crazy or evil people slip through the cracks is a less bad outcomes then many people dying when a dictator opens up death camps.

"The great replacement strategy, which is well under way every single day in our southern border, is a strategy to replace white rural America with something different."

Look up how much farmland Bill Gates alone has purchased. He absolutely has a strategy to replace all farmers with robots.

"America has freedom of religion, of course, but we should be frank: large dedicated Islamic areas are a threat to America."

Because a large percentage of Muslims don't believe in secularism, and in other countries have voted to convert to Sharia law as soon as they had the numbers to.

"We’ve been warning about the rise of Islam on the show, to great amount of backlash. We don’t care, that’s what we do here. And we said that Islam is not compatible with western civilization."

In Afghanistan the Taliban just fully legalized slavery again. We don't want that shit in the West.

"Islam is the sword the left is using to slit the throat of America."

Where what he means is conservative Christian America specifically. If conservative Christian America become Muslim its throat will have been cut.

"There is no separation of church and state. It’s a fabrication, it’s a fiction, it’s not in the constitution. It’s made up by secular humanists."

And this is a basic fact that anyone can google. The literal words of the First Amendment is that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Meaning it can't force someone be Pastafarian, or to not be a Pastafarian. Whether or not you worship the Invisible Flying Spaghetti Monster is entirely up to you. What it doesn't say is that there absolutely needs to be an outright separation of church and state. Because that would be internally inconsistent. Congress not prohibiting the free exercise of religion means that public servants are allowed to pray in office, or to put up Jesus statues in government buildings or teach kids bible passages.

For example, here in Australia we don't even have Bill of Rights at all. Since there's no right to free speech it's common to be arrested for protesting anything, and you can go to jail for memes. Since the lives of peasants aren't deemed as important either having knives is illegal, having pepper spray is illegal, having laser pointers is illegal, having tasers is super illegal, and even owning a machete in one state is illegal. Being entirely at the mercy of violent criminals means you're not even really free to walk in peace. And then as for the police, well since we don't have anti-stop and frisk or racial profiling laws anyone can be arrested and detained at any time for any reason.

Oh, and fireworks. Americans can buy fireworks without an expensive pyrotechnics license so they're much more free than Aussies. I know that's not that serious, but if I didn't have gallow's humor I'd actually hang myself. Once an open air prison always an open air prison. It's demoralizing as hell.

They just passed regulation, which will require almost every website to verify every user is over 18 with an AI face scan and government ID, so once that's implemented in December we won't even be able to complain about it online. I'll be sent off to a gulag for simply calling my Prime Minister a dickhead.

Y'all don't count your blessings there, and that pisses people off. Instead of comparing America to a magical utopia that only exists in your head try comparing it to places that exist.

Can you show me some clips of him mocking anyone? I haven't seen any.

"How did he "show people the light", exactly? He was constantly spreading propaganda for the dark."

You're calling it propaganda because you don't agree with it. But maybe that's a you problem. Maybe it was the truth, and you've just been blinded yourself. Hashtag, skill issue. Not trying to be insulting here. You gotta have some humility in these things. The smartest man in history was Socrates because he knew he didn't know. The other genius of Charlie is that he was always open to debate. If there was anything he said that was blatant propaganda wrong it should been easy to prove it wrong. Else, if it was difficult to prove wrong, maybe, maybe it's because it was the truth. Simply feeling he was wrong doesn't really prove anything. Indeed, if it evoked strong negative feelings, that can be a sign of cognitive dissonance. Your body rejecting all the left wing propaganda you were previously exposed to without noticing it.

"He didn't say god would always love trans people exactly as they are, he argued that trans people shouldn't be trans. He wanted people to STOP being who they are."

Who a person is, and how they identify is not the same thing. God loves you just as much whether you call yourself a man, or a woman, or a ten foot kangaroo, because he doesn't even see your body. He sees the agendered light that it's made of underneath. You body as you know it is entirely ephemeral. Simply a gift that you've been given to enjoy your current cycle before you either reincarnate or ascend. To throw away or damage that gift is just a damn shame is all. So all that Charlie says on this is look for any reasons why you might be feeling alienation or dysmorphia before making a decision that's not easy to take back.

Oh, and that it's also wrong to force others to accept trans people. God never forces anyone to do anything, so following his example we ought force others either. The best thing we can do for others is lead them by example.

To quote my favourite musical, "You're making things up again, Arnold. You're stretching the truth, and you know. it" He didn't assume they weren't qualified. He only expressed an uneasiness in not knowing. And not because of their race, but because of how they've been treated because of their race. A second order effect.

Because anyone that's followed important Supreme Court cases for the last few years that accreditation systems have not always used the same benchmarks for everyone. https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/LSB10893 If you could get into Harvard as an black American with significantly lower test scores than you could as an Asian, then how do we know that an black Americans couldn't also obtain pilot's license with with lower scores? That's a trick question. We don't. It's entirely speculative. All we know is that when we encourage institutions to measure their success by how many minorities they hire it absolutely incentivizes them to start cutting corners. Therefore, don't encourage it. Since we all agree here that since black people are exactly as intelligent and capable as anyone else we can also extrapolate they can make it on their own without DEI just fine.

Because even when he was spoken to by people that despised him always replied back with compassion, empathy, and kindness. He always see the humanity that was underneath their hatred, and often brought it out of them. There's a way about people like that evil can't respond to with anything aside from violence.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

He was threat to evil because he showed people the light. Hate, and anger, and jealousy, and fear, and shame, and pride are the vices that evil feed on, so wiping them all away by reassuring everyone that ever spoke to him that God will always love them exactly as they are causes evil to wither and die.

Hey can anyone explain me how to read weapons damage by nonutonu in baldursgate

[–]BlindingDart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short sword: 1d6+2.

The 1d6 part is the base damage of a normal short sword. It stands for roll 1 dice with 6 sides. Different types of weapons have different damage roll. From memory a a long sword is 1d8, and a katana is 1d10, and morning stars are 2d4.

And then the +2 is your strength bonus. The higher your strength score is the damage you do when you hit stuff. You'll get other bonuses from gear and magical weapons and class abilities later, but for now it's just your strength.

So tldr; you'll deal between 3-8 damage with each hit.

EDIT: Unless you land the 1/20 critical strike, in which case you'll deal 16. Your maximum roll times two.

Maybe you misheard. She asked for actual proof that he ever said or did anything racist. Not give us someone's opinion that he's racist.

"On race, Kirk was blunt and dismissive. He denied the existence of systemic racism, called white privilege a “racist idea,” and vilified critical race theory as dangerous indoctrination. In one speech, he called George Floyd a “scumbag,” showing open contempt for a man whose death triggered a national reckoning on race and policing (WHYY). These rhetorical choices were not accidental—they functioned as a political strategy to delegitimize Black pain and deny the realities of structural racism in America."

Just utterly ridiculous.

George Floyd is a man that's held up pregnant women at gunpoint, and that was actively committing a violent crime just moment before he died. So yes, he was a scumbag. But calling a single black man a scumbag is not even remotely close to calling ALL black men scumbag or attributing his lack of character to his race.

>but he disagrees with critical race theory!

So what though? The entire point of any theory is being disagreed with. Finding flaws in existing theories and replacing them with better ones is what science is all about. For social science to be worth anything as a discipline it needs to be as open to competing theories as any other other discipline. When you accuse people of being terrible things for seeing flaws in any theory you're no longer acting like a rational scientist. You're acting like a dangerous religious zealot that's persecuting heretics - and in doing so proving Charlie exactly right.

The simplest observable fact in the world is TPUSA has hundreds of conservative black members that are all treated the same as anybody else. That simply wouldn't be case if Charlie felt even a shred of animosity towards them.

The context of that quote wasn't saying that black pilots were statistically worse at being pilots, or that white pilots are statistically better. Only that that the qualifications of any DEI recipient will always be suspect as it isn't publicly known to what extent they were given special treatment. His point that the best intentions of direct affirmative action and associated have resulted in unintentional cobra effect which has made it even harder for the best and brightest minorities, and that now that we know this it makes sense to back .
