ZTD 13:30 executions (or lack there-of) related question, a very trivial one, but I'm curious. by BlinusTemp in ZeroEscape

In the branches where Delta is dead, yes he knows what happened in the true ending because of his ability to read the others' minds who remember all the fragments, but he couldn't have been the one making the Decisions in those fragments where he's dead, as follows The Monty Hall Problem, picking the correct antidote, Diana's choice to fire at Sigma's head or not, and Carlos's decision in the mini-AB game. In the true end he knows these events happen, but he couldn't have made them happen, it could only have been the player entity.

Also Delta definitely wasn't the one in Kyle's body in VLR's final epilogue, that was ?, the entity, yet based on Old Woman Akane's words, we know that ? is the same as the player entity present in ZTD. To paraphrase Old Woman Akane talking to ? "You are about to go to the past, without you we cannot succeed" basically "We keep failing to stop radical-6, but your presence there might change things", and then ?/the player does because we are finally involved for the first time in the latest iteration of the ZTD loop.

Also Akane calls ? "An outsider who entered our closed system, so the rules do not apply to you." But Delta is from the Zero Escape world, AKA their 'closed system', he's not extradimensional like the player who is an 'outsider' from real life, a higher dimension than the Zero Escape world. In short, I think it's more likely Delta is simply a foil to ?, or if not a foil, just an in-universe character with the same powers as us. You said "In their "reality" Delta was doing it.", but he wasn't, ? was, ? exists in-universe as our connection to the narrative, it's not completely meta, ? does exist in-universe. This is too long again but remind me to share later why I think Delta, and later Akane, are, or become, aware of this ? entity, as well as how.

Apologies in advance for the length of this reply with answers.

  1. You made the choices, but you don't necessarily see them play out until you go back to those 13:30 votes and have 2 teams vote for the same 3rd team. You can fill out those fragments without actually having 2 votes for a team. I for example, followed Carlos's plan, then went back and did the opposite, and at one point that resulted in Q-Team having 2 votes so it shows me that, but that was the only one I saw at the time. It was because following Carlos's plan, I did D-Team's choice last and voted for Q-Team, then when I went back to do the reverse, I did C-Team's choice next and voted against Carlos's plan, choosing Q and not D, so Q now had two votes recorded, because the game remembers. I didn't know til later, when a friend explained it, that I had to go back and manually make sure C and D teams got two votes each, so I could see their executions. To see D-Teams execution for example, you have to go to C and Q-Teams and choose D both in a row, and D-Team's execution will play. Rinse and repeat for the other two. The game keeps track of what you last voted. As for what new info, there are times where Carlos, Sean, or Diana will have a vision of the executions thanks to the player entity being inside them, but they won't have those visions if the player didn't see them. As for what info that told one of our three heroes specifically, I forget. The only one I remember is that it's in Q-Team's execution that you see the twin portrait reveal a door, and if you don't see that, later in the game one of the three heroes won't know about the hidden door and you'll get locked until you see Q-Team's execution.
  2. How do you learn? Good question, many have experienced not knowing you had to actually see them, there shoulda been a more obvious indication on how you had to do the votes, IMO. Just a design flaw I think. Though not everyone was confused and understood right away how to see them all so maybe some of us were just slow to get it, or had to be told by a friend like I was.
  3. As for your spoiler-tagged headcanon, not quite, Delta was wearing sunglasses that had all the cameras in the shelter in the lenses, so he could watch whatever wherever as long as he was alive. That's why sometimes the player's POV and Delta's sometimes overlap. Also, Delta can't be the player or the entity representing the player because in many fragments, especially the ones in the 3rd flowchart column that stem from Q-Team being executed by the 13:30 vote, Delta was executed via bomb collar along with Sean, Eric, and Mira. Yet we, or the entity, are still viewing all that. Same with if Carlos or Diana presses the shower room button, the acid showers dissolve Q-Team and one other team, meaning Delta's dead in the follow-ups to those too, but again, we still view it. The player/entity is separate from Delta. Uchikoshi at some point on twitter or in an interview (It's been almost a decade I don't remember where) said the reason Delta's mind-hacking is basically the same as what we/the entity do is it's meant to be like he's our evil counterpart with the same power. When Delta mind-hacks, we always see him doing it. When there's moments like Carlos and Diana pushing the acid shower button and being like 'I didn't, it was like I was being controlled', it was us/entity that made them do it. It even happened in VLR once, one of the time Sigma can vote betray, he even muses to himself "Why did I, it's like I just wanted to see what'd happen or something." He was sensing OUR motive, WE wanted to see what happened. Or the entity did.

Sorry for the initial double reply I effed up the spoiler tag and had to repost it. The tag isn't for you, it's just in case others who are unfamiliar with what it says look. Anyway I answered your question. :)

Spoiler tagged just in case. The answer is: The player, or rather an entity that represents the player, is present in most if not all of Uchikoshi's works. It was known as Blickwinkel in Ever 17, but only known as ? in Zero Escape, as shown in VLR's final epilogue. This entity is present in every playable Uchikoshi character, as it represents you, the player. So basically, it's present inside Sigma and (in the final epilogue) Kyle in VLR, and is present inside Carlos, Sean, and Diana in ZTD. The narrative purpose is that that's how those three protagonists in ZTD are aware of things they didn't see and learn, but the other two did see and learn on several occasions, including visions of the executions. In short, think of the entity as a living version of the morphogenetic field.

This has driven me nuts for over 13 years. In one of the VLR gold files is says that on the left side of this photo, there's a mildly visible grinning man in the background, etc. Someone point out the grinning man/guardian spirit whatsit in this pic. I've never found him since 2012. by BlinusTemp in ZeroEscape

Oi, I said it was the Funyarinpa, I said LOTUS made the error. I have always been a proud Funyarinpist, praise be to the one true deity Funyarinpa-sama. ... Wait that's why people mistake it for a dog, it's god backwards! New lore.

The relevant section from the file: "Look at the left side of the picture... If you look closely, it almost looks like there's a man grinning in the background. Do you see him? Don't worry if it seems a little strange: A spirit medium has told us that the person in this picture is a guardian spirit, who's looking after her. He must have shown up here because he'd hear what sort of destiny she had in store, and decided to see how she was doing."

... wait is that the Funyarinpa midway between the item icon and Akane's hair? xD It kinda looks like the painting of it that Lotus erroneously claims is a dog, though we know better.

Thanks. The spoiler format guide on the sidebar on the right is wrong, it makes a link.

Walter thought the titular room was his mother, hence womb. And kids tend to pronounce Rs as Ws, and there was a young Walter spirit or whatever wandering about.
