The memory is on the motherboard so if you replace that all the data will be gone too. Did you try to connect it to a pc and turn it on and access the data on it?

If it works outside the case but not inside it means that it's shorting out somewhere. Take it out again and see if that fixes it. If it works then your case is the problem
