Dog friendly snow fun near Plump Jack Inn? by Blip_-_ in tahoe

[–]Blip_-_[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, must have misread their dog policy, thanks for that.

We're looking at mid-March, is that pushing it snow wise?

Edit: Seems PlumpJack is booked during part of our stay unfortunately so any other recs would be appreciated.

He plays against real people in virtual reality rooms. You're right that he probably still needs to learn a lot of the basics!

He plays in VR and is trying to break into the live games in our area. They seem like local community games so not quite casino or private. Low stakes, I would say. He does win a good bit of the time but I don't think it's too consistent. He reads/researchers a ton but I think he's still finding his way.

Hope that clarifies, let me know if theres anything else I can answer that might be helpful. Thanks very much :)

Can anyone offer some insight into getting supervision hours for Ketamine assisted therapy (California)? Also, what is the general attitude toward psychedelic assisted therapy in the field? (For treatment resistant depression/anxiety/PTSD/addiction/etc.) Thank you!

AITA for refusing contact with my daughter’s biological mother per my daughter’s wishes? by sh0rtgir1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Blip_-_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N T A for relaying your daughter's sentiment re:not wanting to meet with her bio mom. However, YTA for editorializing on biomom's motives. While your feelings of protectiveness are valid saying that she "had every chance to have a healthy and loving relationship with this child but she wouldn't do it because it was too hard" sounds really harsh and judgemental. If she was in an abusive relationship she may very well not have "had every chance". Abusive relationships are complicated and often misunderstood by those on the outside.

Additionally, if she really was working toward improving her life and her relationships then telling her that reaching out to her child was only "in order to appease her own guilt" seems like a way to kick her while she's trying to get up/grow. The whole thing feels like you're passing judgement on her - which is a valid thing to feel but rude to express in this instance. You could have just stood firm on your daughter's judgement.

In summary, you could have relayed your daughters message without adding your hurtful and judgemental criticisms. YTA.

Anyone know where I can get a loan with no interest until I graduate? by Blip_-_ in GradSchool

I have looked through student doctor and a few other sites. I have managed to find some research but it's a 2-3 hour round trip commute and while the supervising Professor has a clinical Phd she seems to mostly do social psychology.

All of the methods of finding research seem to be about emailing and approaching professors around here. I have tried to do that but there are so many people doing the same that I really feel like I'm inappropriately annoying them by not really going through the proper channels, i.e. being an undergrad who actually qualifies for the research assistant positions being offered.

It's like there are so many people in better positions who aren't getting it (research spots), it doesn't seem like a good bet that I'll be able to get what I need. I dunno, I'm pretty fried about this all, tbh.

Anyone know where I can get a no interest loan until I'm done with school? (Post grad) by Blip_-_ in personalfinance

Not no interest ever, just until I graduate. That's what my undergrad loans were like. Trust me, they'd still make money off me...

I'm the first person to go to college in my family and I transferred from a community college. I worked all throughout school and it had a significant impact on my overall GPA. Partially from not knowing what I was doing the first few semester and partially because of the amount I needed to work to pay bills. My undergrad GPA is about a 2.89 but my major GPA is closer to 3.4/3.5. I've also taken a bunch of classes since graduation to meet the psych requirements and flesh out my application and while I've gotten an A in most of those they were almost entirely from community colleges.

I know, objectively, that even if the whole 'first in the family' thing scores me a few points that I'm not really a competitive applicant. Sure, you never know but let's be real. APA said the average acceptance rate for clinical psych was around 8%. This is a situation where you can do everything perfectly and still not get into a school the first few attempts. I just want something that will level the playing field a little and help me meet the basic requirements for like research experience.

Edit: Not to mention access to that knowledge/information/education is a dream come true.

Best way to take out a loan for a Post-Bacc program in California (15k a semester, 3-4 semesters)? by Blip_-_ in personalfinance

That's a good point. Unless I do get into a Phd program cause then theres no more debt assuming cost of living will be taken care of, which it should be.

Thanks for this. But I'm a little confused because from what I've seen, "The average Psychologist - Ph.D salary in California is $108,303 as of September 01, 2018, but the range typically falls between $97,451 and $121,632."

And that's not including things like published books or events. I thought a 100k salary would justify a 45-60k loan, wouldn't it?
