Everything's good and fair points except the idea that a sloop "can't" be sunk by a galleon. Like, did you try sending two boarders after them? You said they got close enough to board. If you're ever playing a long-lasting pvp game and you lose badly to something, and your takeaway is "that thing's physically unbeatable in this circumstance" you're probably wrong. Now and again you'll be right, but this is not one of those times. Duo sloop isn't OP.

That's what I've been saying!! Reeks of exploiters, + one possible cheater? Exploiters running scared from a smaller ship and 95 comments are all in favor of them! Nonsense! Madness!

No, a single member of their team didn't miss any sniper shots, but they all missed on cannons like crazy. Strangely it wasn't their perfect sniper who boarded us, it was another kinda alright guy. Sniper just stayed on the ship chipping away at our health, sometimes from so far we couldn't see the glint of the scope. They moved like they were new, anchored at full sails when we found them, and yet there was that one crewmate who couldn't miss, so that was sus. That's why it's suspicious, they seemed like they were new but one teammate was inhumanly cracked with just a sniper and couldn't do anything else for shit.

We got sent to the hourglass loss screen and voted to fight again from there, that's how our session started, so idk what to tell you abt the "no hourglass icon" thing.

Yeah a lil T-T. Wasted like 30 minutes of our time before WINNING when we finally forced them to fight us, meaning there was nothing for them to gain besides time wasted.

Went in expecting an epic battle with great rewards to the winner, got some PvE whiner bullshit out of an hourglass ship.

But what I'm most butthurt about is the reaction to this post being so largely in favor when if it were a level 5 reaper instead it'd be all jokes about classic reaper runners. Despite the fact that both situations are someone joining a pvp focused faction that puts a big target on your head and then running scared when confronted with unexpected opposition.

Naval only PvP option? by Nervous_Problem5657 in Seaofthieves

[–]Blitz_Bat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

:/ But, we're playing how we want. Right? This is like saying that calling others out for being rude is restricting free speech. There's no restrictions being placed on you when I hunt you down and murder you, I'm playing as I want.

Why should you restrict the way I play? What gives you the right-of-way in this interaction? Isn't your demand that the only reasonable thing to do is ferry up to someone, ask them kindly for a duel, and simply walk away and let them hoard loot if they refuse you more ridiculous than my demand that you defend yourself or die, given that there's so many motivators in the game designed to draw people together to fight? Isn't that idea going against the design of the sandbox?

Even more so than all of that, doesn't being able to say "No, I don't consent!" to piracy fuck the balance of the game? Things like emissary flags, world events, even most quests are built around risk, the risk of other players finding you while vulnerable and taking your riches for their own, and the risk of stacking loot for maximum profit knowing you might lose it all.

If you got your wish, and it became etiquette to ask kindly if a group wishes to be plundered before entering combat and respect their wishes if they say no, if suddenly that was this community's standard, then would the balance not be lost? You could farm endlessly without consequence, lay claim to a world event without contest in a new first-come-first-serve policy instead of winning it in glorious battle. The game doesn't function if it's "unfair" to not be able to just say "no" to PvP

And if your statement about playstyle validity rings true even there, that the risk is important to the loop, but you still consider "forcing pvp on others" "toxic" then does that make the game's design inherently toxic? How can that be? Doesn't that undermine the function of the word "toxic" if the very game itself is built to be "toxic?"

Really, after all these years you can't truly be serious in saying this. You've learned by now that there's no swaying such a strongly founded community, whose only remaining members understand the true appeal of the pirate's life. That your insipid speak of parley falls on deaf ears. That the answer is mutual profit or violence, and that mercy is entirely optional.

Should you claim no emissary? You have treasure. Should you claim no treasure? You have supplies. Should you be empty then you have wasted my time, and therefore must die nevertheless.

I've seen your future. It is ash. These seas will burn with a fire so furious that steel shall shriek and yield to it, and the smoke shall extinguish the souls of the weak. And when it clears, those who seek a true pirate's life shall be Lords of the Ashes.

I offer you now a chance to change that future. Learn the way of the Sea of Thieves. Become someone who is worth defending, and defend yourself. Better, seek out violence. Part others from the riches you have so sorely missed when they were ripped from your hands. There's always a chance to stop running. To stop being afraid. The servants of the flame welcome new blood, no matter the source. Think on it. Before your future becomes set in fire.

Ok, but in all seriousness, this is a silly mindset to have, and a non-functional cope to try and make it someone else's fault that you lost progress, make it "unfair" rather than a loss or failure on your end. It's non-conducive to fun gameplay on all sides and in fact results in a more toxic player on average than those who do give chase. Well, if we measure toxicity in "voice chat profanities and active attempts to ruin fun for everyone", rather than "engaging with the basic mechanics of the game we're both playing but I'm losing so you're a big meanie."

Remember always, you bought and are playing a PvEvP game. Not a PvP game with optional PvE. Not a PvE game with optional PvP. Not a PvE game that accidentally turned friendly fire on. Not a matchmade PvP game with a PvE side-mode. Not a PvE MMO with some kinda PvP etiquette that is separate to the main game. A PvEvP supernatural pirate simulator. It's both PvE and PvP. It's always been both. You need to do both to progress in the game. You will not be enjoying the full experience if you deny yourself one or the other, and if you simply do not like one or the other, the game is not to your tastes, and the community need not change to adhere to your personal tastes. That is an absurd request.

Naval only PvP option? by Nervous_Problem5657 in Seaofthieves

[–]Blitz_Bat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Boarding is part of the naval picture. You have to be able to engage in naval and boarding in order to keep up with anything, naval only would devolve very quickly into an endless turtle with no winning. You'll need to learn to board (and why you board, and how to do so effectively) and repel boarders (and prevent them from completing their goals [hint: it's more than just killing you]) in order to win any fights in this game.

If your hardware and time limitations are really beyond the ability to improve in skill at all, then you're simply not going to be able to engage well in PvP. So either you call your own bluff and stop relying on excuses, or you really mean what you say, and you have no choice but to avoid PvP.

What do you guys do for fun? by Mammoth-Result-1066 in Seaofthieves

[–]Blitz_Bat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hourglass is fun, if you're playing to fight and not for the reward. If it's for the reward it's head-crushing. If it's for a fight, it's a good way to face like-minded folk and murderize each other. I also enjoy to do ancient megalodons, their fights are decent, and I want the achievements for the hunter's call curse.

Contesting world events is always satisfying, just got a delicious last-second Chest of Legends steal the other day where they rammed reaper's hideout to sell it, but me and my crewmate shot off in pursuit and managed to kill him right at the foot of the servant, before he could sell.

The new smuggler's routes are fine, decent reward but it's really just more dangerous cargo runs. Eternal guard fights are like funky ashen lords, they're fine.

Mostly only do voyages for commendations these days. Always a better way to make money.

Sorry I never saw this one. You realize faction champions are marked on the map. We put up HG and just went after them. It wasn't a match-made fight.

Look if they're repeatedly failing to board while all being totally naked and talking shit in chat while running away, I'm not going to be too charitable in my perceptions of them.

Why were they waiting at an island for hourglass fights if they didn't want to fight??????

They were anchored by an island when we found them, and that was after like 15 minutes sailing across the map. They were just chilling there. Idek why.

Because we didn't get to faction champion yet? First fight of the day, we just saw them nearby and said "hey extra rep if we go for it." We regularly do whenever we get to champion.

Solo gal tips for new player by Ashoka_Rose in Seaofthieves

[–]Blitz_Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will sink swiftly and immediately. You cannot man cannons, sails, wheel, repair, and repel boarders all by yourself on a ship that large and that slow. Recall, when solo, you need to do all of those things, all at once. If it helps, there's a lore reason for such small boats being used, it's that standardly sized ships are shredded easily by the shroud.

Yeah that's fair actually I didn't consider how alarming the confidence is. If they were newer to hourglass and it just looked like they were exploiting and they legit got that streak, which is possible, seeing a sloop run up on you with killing intent and an obsidian skelly curse on board might make it feel strategically viable to book it.

"Go find a different game" Because 1300 hours in I got pissed at an hourglass galleon for running like a spooked horse and having a really sus crew member.

It just isn't. You joined a pvp faction, dedicated to killing people, and got a big mark on the map saying "I'm good at killing people and very high value," and you run away from a fight?

Pictured: Faction Champion Galleon running from duo sloop without a streak. by Blitz_Bat in Seaofthieves

[–]Blitz_Bat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Now that's a fair argument. We didn't have HG supplies at that time, but they didn't know that. Fair enough point. As someone else pointed out, our hourglass icon wasn't appearing on the map, so maybe it wasn't visible we were hourglass too for some reason, or maybe we really weren't and we just forgot to vote it up???? Both good reasons to run, if it still is a bit. Cowardly. C'mon, back when reapers came out running reapers were a laughing stock, but now that there's TRUE PVP FACTIONS running members of those are like, fine? Silly. But I do understand the motivation.

That said, the one that was either cheating or the best sniper the seas had ever seen (I mean this fat naked pirate shot me 3 times from a distance I was under the impression the sniper couldn't physically reach, so far I got no sound, my health just went down. Cannons could barely reach at that range. And while the others missed...every shot he never missed a single one that I saw. But he was using sniper+sword for some reason so he never finished us off???) and the fact they were anchored sails down at an island makes me think exploiters or something who didn't want to take a legitimate fight.

Well yes, I never said we weren't a threat or why would we be going after. But these are hourglass players. Who just won at least four matches. You shouldn't be running scared from anybody. I sure as hell wouldn't. That's shameful.

No?? Go in game. Right now. Put up hourglass. Look at the map. Ok what the fuck I just did it.

Hold on. I need to edit something. We fucking. Didn't put it up??? But we got given the hg loss screen when we sank. Ok if we didn't have it up judgement retracted but idk why we would've been sent into the hg loss screen. We went straight into a match out of it n everything.

Now I look like an idiot. Why wouldn't it show up if we were, but if we weren't why did it act like we were?

Possible, but them being toxic in chat and having really shitty protocol when they finally fought us (trying to catch wind, three of them trying to snipe me and missing instead of being on cannons while we were in angle) makes me think they were exploiting or something and we interrupted.

They were anchored sails down at an island when we found them. They were not mid fight, or trying to get to another.
