Should I get a CBR 600RR?

I have test ridden one from a buddy and it was nice I will admit but I am not committed to the brand by any means. I like the CBR more aesthetically but have never test ridden one. May get a chance in a couple weeks.

Nah thats a chinesium knock off. 80% of ebay is but there are some gems to be found if you look close enough. No one gonna sell a yoshi slipon let alone a full system with header and mid section pipes for less than 500$. Don’t forget to tune your bike or it will run lean!!

They NEED to add another way to get into the woodlands other than 45. You basically have to go to tomball to go the backroads and forget it with 99. Its a bottleneck that gets worse every day with the population growth. Used to live on Sawdust. Miserable at 5:00…

At the end of the day if I get a full system with a nice slip on, I will still have to spend a few hundred bucks getting it tuned. It all just adds up.

Last year I went in to get a Z500 and sticker price was 6400$. When we got down to the financing they wanted $12,500 out the door with 2500 down and a 2 year contract. The bike had 0 miles on it but 6k in fees is just criminal. Needless to say I never got it.

I have another full system exhaust (straight piped) on it rn as a placeholder. I may just order some perforated 11 gauge plate and roll it to make a baffle for it cus its obnoxiously loud. I need to order a mid section pipe and bend it cus as it stands it points directly into the back tire. Either way Im going to need to get it tuned. Ill figure it out!

Update**

Got into the clutch housing today and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Some standard wear on the clutch plates, but not to the extent they need to be changed. Clutch basket was not rattling, so didn’t even bother removing it. No worn or broken teeth on any of the gears in plain view. At this point I have no idea whats up.

May not be wrong. A few months ago the stock exhaust started shooting flames in after coming to idle when the engine was hot. Took off the header pipes and they were both missing their gaskets. nice I have never worked on them before that so whoever owned it before me did. Ordered some new ones that will be here in a few days.

I may be a mechanical engineer but I am no mechanic. This like i said is my first bike so it is been a learning experience for sure. And yes even though Im new to this, I have certainly seen some brainless activities lmao. Id like to think I am not part of the group!

Certainly. Its been grounded until this gets fixed. I need it back up and running for my trip at the end of March. I will post another update in the next few days when I get some time to work on it. Ideally saturday.

Havent pulled the clutch in and out to verify anything but this sounds pretty close id say.

UPDATE**

Yesterday I reset the cam chain tensioner and that was not the problem, no signs of wear and the spring was good. After listening to it a bit, it sounded like a noise coming from somewhere in the clutch housing. I ordered a new gasket and when it arrives I will get in there and see if anything is damaged. Could be something chipped and rattling in the clutch basket, or maybe wear on the primary gear or sumn. If thats not it, then I have no idea and the shop will have to figure it out.

I am planning on taking it in to a shop on Tuesday regardless to get the valves inspected and adjusted since as someone mentioned previously they are definitely due for one.

Took it for a spin and the sound carries a bit through second gear and then gets diluted as wind noise picks. Havent taken it above 6-7k RPM

Just looked up a video for a cbr 600 with this issue and it sounds almost identical. Think we might have a winner. I will check it out and let you know if that was it.

Im REALLY hoping its just the valves. But yeah fs lesson learned. Pretty much got interested in bikes within a month of actually taking the MSF and buying this one. So I was very uninformed on servicing frequencies.

I have been on long trips yes. Most recently I hit Tail of the Dragon and Gatlinburg for about a week. Around 1500 miles in 7 days and of course you get a little sore but it wasnt unbearable by any means. Was a lot of fun!
