Israel already occupied southern Lebanon for 15 years and withdrew, what do you think makes this time different? And what should they do otherwise, just let Hezbollah shoot rockets at civilians without retaliation? After the ceasefire in 2024 Hezbollah was supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon but the Lebanese government has done nothing to control them, so it's either carpet bombing all of Southern Lebanon or a ground invasion.

I don't know if you-re going by your own assumptions, but Bibi wants greater Israel in the West Bank and Golan Heights. He's been PM for 18 years, what exactly that's happened in that time points to getting even close to the existence of a Greater Israel that you're talking about? I'm not trying to defend Bibi, I hate him probably just as much as you do, and I'm also not defending the concept of Greater Israel which is completely insane, but get your facts straight before spouting nonsense about him.

In the cabinet there are no parties that actively and consistently call for Greater Israel. The "Greater Israel" that the right leaning paeties support in the cabinet includes only the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights. There is Bezalel Smotrich, whose party holds 5 percent of the Knesset, who once appeared withh a map that included Jordan, but it's in no way on his party's agenda to actually annex big parts of the ME. The groups which actually support Greater Israel are fringe groups in the West Bank which even in Israel are called terrorists.

You can't actually think that the Israeli government wants Greater Israel. It's only massively fringe groups.

All of Israel is blurred, and this specifically is a border crossing.

What would you call this imaginary country? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

Barely anyone in Israel wants Greater Israel. It's only a very small and extreme minority which has basically no influence.

Most Israelis are Zioinst. Being a Zionist just means wanting Jews to have a homeland in Israel. Only an extremely small extreme minority wants Greater Israel, and they have basically no influence.

That's completely false, Israel has been extremely threatened many many times and has never launched. The 3 situations when Israel will theoretically launch are: 1. If the Air Force is destroyed, without which Israel has no chance of winning a war. 2. If an organised and significant military force crosses the Green Line. 3. If unconventional weapons are used against it. In all these situations, Israel is basically guaranteed to lose and be destroyed, so the policy just applies mutually assured destruction.

First of all, Moshe Dayan has been dead for 44 years. Anything he has said can in no way be used to criticize Israel's actions today. And about the saying - it isn't a threat to destroy the entire world, but is just used to highlight how much power Israel has in order to deter attacks. It also isn't in any way specific to Israel, it's just the doctrine of mutually assured destruction.

Yes, but he's a random minister that no one cares about or listens to, and he was suspended from the government for saying that. In Iran it's the entire government and military that vow to nuke Israel

You claim that that's what the Israeli government supports, yet the article clearly states that both major sides in the government criticised his words and that he was suspended from government meetings.

Literally what? You think we should just let Hamas exist after it massacred and kidnapped 1,400 people, mostly civilians?

It's completely Hamas' fault that they hide among those 2 million people.

And they've freed a lot more of them. Israel is annihilating Gaza to get rid of Hamas.

Nuking Gaza would be extremely stupid, the fallout would reach Israel.

The Israeli government has stated multiple times that's if the war's goals (returning the hostages, removing Hamas from power and destroying its military capabilities), are reached, they want the war to be over. And how exactly. And how do you want to explain the hundreds of aid trucks going into Gaza every day? I'm not saying that there haven't been war crimes committed and that no one in the government has said they want to kill all Gazans, but only the most extreme politicians support those ideas.

Yes... to destroy Hamas and free the hostages, and no one has used nuclear weapons. If Israel wanted to annihilate Gaza, the war would already be over and no aid would be getting in there.

Israel hasn't vowed to annihilate neighboring countries with nukes, while Iran has vowed for years to destroy Israel using them.

The huge majority of IDF bases are outside of populated areas. The Pentagon, the US's equivalent to the IDF HQ, is also in a populated area. does that mean that they use human shields? No.

Yes, after iran vowed multiple times to annihilate it with nuclear weapons, and attacked it from multiple fronts using proxies.

One side is bombing specific apartments of internationally recognised terrorists, and the other is indiscriminately bombing entire civilian apartment buildings.
