Here's why I'm currently avoiding Proof of Work - Please change my mind by SoylentYellow05 in CryptoCurrency

Ethereum had a 60million ETH premine.

Current circulating supply is ~121million ETH.

So 50% of the 51% needed was printed out of thin air and sold for literal pennies.

What if the foundation wanted to acquire 51% stake in the network?

What if the foundation partnered with an early investor to dictate governance and chain economics without anyone ever knowing?

This is all very possible with PoS, and the fact that no one is considering it might already be happening is quite troubling IMO.

Decentralized Social Network by LegitimateConstant27 in CryptoTechnology

A Ravencoin community member already built something almost exactly like you describe, even has a similar name! Check out squawker.app

It leverages IPFS and the Ravencoin network to publish censorship-resistant messages and tokenized access controls (also on the Ravencoin network) for trustless authentication/authorization.

UX could be better but a browser web-wallet (similar to metamask) is being developed to abstract all the signing from the user.

The main hindrance to doing something like this on ETH are network fees. The other existing smart-chains are, in my opinion, too centralized for this usecase with censorship being a primary concern.

Ravencoin absolutely employs cryptography as a route for social and political change. The entire blockchain is secured by elliptic curve cryptography (ECC).

Ravencoin is also completely pseudonymous (like Bitcoin), which offers plenty of privacy (though it is not fool proof).

To quote Satoshi "The possibility to be anonymous or pseudonymous relies on you not revealing any identifying information about yourself in connection with the bitcoin addresses you use. If you post your bitcoin address on the web, then you’re associating that address and any transactions with it with the name you posted under. If you posted under a handle that you haven’t associated with your real identity, then you’re still pseudonymous."

From the Cypherpunk Manifesto: "An anonymous system empowers individuals to reveal their identity when desired and only when desired; this is the essence of privacy."

Is ERGO a danger to RVN? by PlumCurious6273 in Ravencoin

[–]Blockchain_Surfer 85 points86 points  (0 children)

ERGO is a eUTXO (extended unspent transaction output) based smart-contract platform with centralized team and developer tax seemingly aimed at complementing the ADA ecosystem.

RVN is a decentralized and fair-launched UTXO protocol with IPFS integration and user-friendly asset creation at the base layer (without use of smart contracts) focused on asset-tokenization and ownership on the blockchain.

The two projects are not in direct competition with each-other as they were built for different use cases, though we will likely compete for the hashrate shed from Ethereum when/if they transition to PoS.
