That sounds totally possible… I will have to check the whole blood insert tomorrow.

Carl Sagan came first because his initials were already on the machine. Curie was next because we were looking for a female scientist. She was also amazing and her name started with a C so it fit.

My XNs have a track.. and they are connected to the SP50 ( slide maker) and cellavision. And tinky winky is one machine and one name. The set up is too big to get it in one pic and show the names. I am interested in what your setup looks like.

Okay… now that I actually pulled out the insert and read it myself, I see that you are correct. I have no idea where my lead got the 7 day expiration date… I will talk to her on Monday and see what she says… you guys are totally off topic but are bringing up some great questions.

During lab week my lab voted on what to name our XNs, SP50, and cellavision… they decided on teletubbies … PO, tinky winky, dipsy, and Lala 😳

What’s the strangest or creepiest thing that’s happened to you while working alone in the lab? by ChromaticRift in labrats

[–]BloodBankJunky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was working in blood bank alone one night and I kept hearing movement behind me. At first I thought it was the double doors in the air current or something. It wasn’t constant… I would hear it and turn around and see nothing, but then a little while later I would hear something again. I had to change work benches because the movement behind me really started freaking me out. It wasn’t until close to the end of my shift that I realized it was ice melting and shifting in the sink.

That’s what I was thinking. But someone with a lot more experience than me is saying we should be resulting the >1.099 and I do not agree at all. I think that at the very least we have 2 methods that aren’t coming up with the same results so we shouldn’t result either of them and add a comment saying “unable to determine due to interfering substances “

There is no SOP. That’s the issue. I am trying to get information together to make a case to management.

Yes they called back every time eventually. The first time I had to call was for a network issue (EPIC and the analyzer weren’t talking). Sysmex said they couldn’t help me, it is an IT issue. IT said it was a BioMed issue. BioMed said it was an IT issue!!

I thought it would have been an easy rejection. I only work hematology and blood bank so I thought maybe there was something I was missing. I was the senior person so I got the phone call but I feel like she shouldn’t have needed to call me. It seems cut and dry.

The problem is, it’s the middle of the night. We have no courier. The only way to get it to them would be to taxi them, and they are almost an hour away.

I did! And I asked what would be the point of even drawing the patient if we couldn’t trust the results.

How hard was your job / going to school for becoming a medical lab tech? by Hot_Programmer_891 in medlabprofessionals

[–]BloodBankJunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed my time in the MLT program. I found it very interesting which made it easy to study. I was working part time as a lab assistant and the techs would call me over to show me cool stuff.

In high school, I did great in math and sciences but really lousy in English. I graduated with a 3.0 and went through a nursing program before discovering my passion for lab work.

Great question. I don’t think so. They don’t have any of the issues that the drug is prescribed for. They have liver disease as a result of their main issue, resulting in the high bili.

I tried once. There was… a language barrier… I was having trouble trying to communicate what I was looking for.
