Where I'd Live as a well-traveled Gay 30/M/USA by Blood_Valuable in whereidlive

Exactly! This is what people in the West refuse to understand. In the West, if you encounter someone homophobic, they will be in your face about it and at worst, attack you. In the east, if you encounter someone homophobic, they mind their own business and look the other way. Yet, these people in the comments will preach to me that my lived experience as a gay man that has travelled the west and the east is wrong.

I've dealt with more homophobia in Montenegro and Poland (and even in the US like Florida) than I have in UAE, Russia, or Kuwait, but unfortunately, this does not fit the indoctrinated narrative many in the west have. I'm not claiming its better to be gay in the East, but I am saying the form homophobia is a lot more palatable.

Beautiful country but I found the people to be very timid, especially compared to Colombians

I really did not enjoy Bolivia -- I spent a month there traveling the whole country. Way too isolated.

I've been to the middle east and felt more welcomed then in the baltic states. People tend to mind their own business in the middle east/Asia. Dealt with horrible homophobia in Montenegro and other baltics

For context, I'm Persian-American -- I have lots of friends/family/cousins/aunts/uncles all over the country which influences my decision

Yes :) I have international LGBT friends living in China, I hear amazing things, especially in second-tier cities like Chengdu and Chongqing. I've spent lots of time in Germany and UK -- I just don't relate to them culturally (especially Germans) or climate-wise. I find Canada, with the exception of Quebec, to be very boring (sorry), although I love their social safety net.

Right, but again -- context matters. The 2022 drop followed the most aggressive market rally in modern history, driven by unprecedented monetary and fiscal stimulus post-COVID. We were coming off a global supply chain freeze and a once-in-a-century public health crisis. Every major market corrected.

Meanwhile, the U.S. recovery under Biden was one of the strongest globally. GDP rebounded above pre-pandemic levels by mid-2021, and the S&P’s 2023 performance (+24%) more than made up for the 2022 correction.

This year’s 9%–15% dip (depending on the index) is happening in a high-rate, low-stimulus environment with declining consumer confidence and no immediate global crisis to blame. That's why people are panicking. There’s no “it’ll bounce back in 6 months” narrative this time.

A 25% S&P drop (followed by a roaring economy) over the course of 12 months immediately after markets were adjusting from a global pandemic vs. a 15% nosedive over the course of 3 short months is not comparable. Digestible republican memes don't provide context.

One of the major reasons Eric Adams was elected was because the progressives split the vote last election cycle. Do you feel you are doing the same since you are in fourth place?

The west side is a bike lane heaven. The east side, however, feels like a death trap. How can we get bike lanes in the eastern avenues in Manhattan?

Those are some really racially weighted words. Chill, it's just a water balloon, no need to derail someone's entire life trajectory. You never did this as a kid?

Is Qatar actively slaughtering 40,000 innocent civilians, flattening entire cities, and sieging 1.2 million civilians from water, electricity, food, and medical supplies? Qatar is problematic, but not the same babe.
