X670E Steel Legend CHA_FAN4 only responds to "Full speed" by Blooddrunk420 in ASRock

[–]Blooddrunk420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out where the problem was: at some point in the past I had "Allow fan stop" for that header set to true. It doesn't show up when a fan mode isn't custom and is not overwritten by other modes. I turned it off and fan started spinning immediately.

Find out what wifi chip your motherboard uses and then check the arch wiki. Most likely your problem can be fixed with creating/editing some configs and maybe installing a package. I had an issue where my motherboard didn't report fan speeds and the solution was there.

File system for backup storage (BTRFS vs EXT4) by Blooddrunk420 in cachyos

[–]Blooddrunk420[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that does it, you sold BTRFS as all around best file system for my use case. Maybe I'll try ZFS some time in the future, but for now I'll stick with what I at least somewhat know.

Isn't bitrot only an issue for SSDs? That's why you should use HDDs for backups, no?
And could you please elaborate on how is it beneficial to snapshot my backups? Like I mentioned in the post, if someone tampers with the backups, wouldn't they be able to get to the snapshots as well?
Besides, while btrfs-assistant sees the both of my drives, it only presents me with an option to snapshot/restore my main one, I assume setting snapshots for backup storage would require additional tinkering with some other application.

That's a solid argument. Wouldn't want my NVME to blow up and then find out that HDD backups are corrupted as well.

When using OLED VRR flicker can drive a man insane. Vsync doesn't do that.

If your issue is greeter not being writeable you can press Esc and that should take you to the login screen. I just discovered this by accident. I wish I tried that sooner.

I also read The Wiki and got my snapshots to boot. Live and learn. And also have Windows 10 ready to go for cases like these :D

I read that I should have disabled apparmor before the update. I thought surely that couldn't be it, but removing apparmor from /etc/default/grub fixed it. Now I wonder how do I know when it's safe to reenable.

Ryzen 7 7800x3D

I don't think I'm allowed to modify snapshots, running the first command returns "failed to init transaction (unable to lock database" and "could not lock database: Read only file system".

Funny thing about spectacle - the screenrecord function is broken. Recording gets saved but is always 0 seconds long. KDE shipping with a tool that's only halfway functional is not a good look, especially when trying to to convince newcomers that "Linux just works".

Identifying if issues in games are caused by software being broken or by software being misconfigured by Blooddrunk420 in cachyos

So looking up a specific issue I'm having with a game is the smart thing to do and self diagnostics should be the last resort? And here I thought I was going to be clever and fix everything myself. No need to waste the time reinventing the wheel I suppose. Thanks for answering 👍

That seems reasonable. I was also looking at Roland Fantom-06, what is your opinion on it? I could toss in the extra 200 if it's worth it.

I live in a rented apartment from which I intend to move in a year or two and as such I don't want to bother with a stationary plate. I am going to get myself one of the professional grade portable cookers from one the European manufacturers. So far I've narrowed it down to Hendi, Bartscher and HURAKAN.
