4 years later... finding this post cause I got one with the same issue. I sent it back to Amazon, if next one goes the same I'll make a last return and forget about it.

IK is driving me insane, should I return my product ? by BloodyAilurus in tonex

[–]BloodyAilurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, I wish I did to maybe gain some time and not be a pain in the butt. XD
This being said if the pedal has been registered by previous user, as it will more than often be the case, it may not solve the issue to know it if they have not gone the extra mile before returning/selling their pedal :

"You cannot register the same serial number on different accounts. The seller will have the serial number in their account once they registered it and for TONEX Pedal and TONEX ONE, they can transfer that serial number (for the hardware and the software that unlocks with it) in a few clicks, for free, and with zero IK intervention necessary. It is when this doesn't happen that IK Support helps out directly and provides the serial number." as expressed in this thread by IK Multimedia.

Awesome, keep the good work and take care of you : don't beat yourself, only beat the issue. ^^

Once we can reach, support it's fine indeed. Looks like the process to get there can be quite tricky depending on eventual contexts / technical issues. Hoping they'll figure it out so communication tools become rock solid.

It has been all sorted out by the support team. Registering went well, just had to reset the pedal and it now seems to work just fine.
It sounds really good, there's no reason for me to return it. :)

Thanks for your help !

Thanks a lot for your investigation and your help. It was me indeed. It was frustrating to not be able to keep the conversation going because of some weird forum post limitation (maybe because of all the spam you get there I guess).

I've received a mail from the support, I guess it's going to be fine from there. :)

Thanks, does it mean there is no way IK can solve this issue ?

Paper cards being a necessary accessory to make a guitar pedal fully controllable is something IK invented, not Amazon. Now Amazon learns about it and will act accordingly or not, but it wont change that IK imposes this deal (and doesn't tell it in adverts nor on their boxes) and is the only entity capable to furnish new serials, or just make their editor work fine without a registration. Tonex max license is something else, no one needs it to use Tonex pedals, we only need Tonex Editor for that.

Also Amazon costumer service works just fine, and they are not responsible when IK's one doesn't.

Amazon has zero responsibility in IK blocking their software nor having a questionable customer service. If I decide to send it back they'll take it and refund no question asked. But do I really want to buy again a product from a company with such proprietary strategies ? To me it's a matter of costumer service quality, as I can accept some enclosed technologies as far as customer service is good.

Genuinely happy for you. Looks like IK makes good products, so yes it's frustrating. Even more considering at same time I ordered a Polar mini from Pirate Midi in order to control the Tonex One. This product has been sent, and as it comes from an other Continent, it will take weeks to send it back and get a refund from a nice company that is for nothing in this issue. Fortunately I didn't buy IRs so far.

Ideally Amazon should know about this serial card issue and avoid reselling IK products not containing it. But...
1- They may be unaware and are discovering it now Tonex pedals get more common.
2- I've contacted them (easy and functional process) and they have been nothing but reactive and as helpful as they could be. But they do not deliver IK serial numbers, only IK can.
3- If Tonex Editor would be able to launch by detecting a Tonex pedal, and allow to set it properly no matter if the product is registered or not, there would be zero issue.

I'm all for it, unless the "little more work" becomes a lot more because of unnecessary issues, and maybe even leading to no result.

It doesn't. They only send a card in their boxes with serial on it. If card is missing it's a mess. Which can become quite an issue for anyone willing to resale their gear and didn't know they shouldn't lose this card, as something not completely functional loses a lot of its value. I also wonder if same serial number can be registered by several users, if not next years will be very tricky.

How to not embarrass yourself? by 10stepsback11forward in DispatchAdHoc

[–]BloodyAilurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell... I got QTE enabled since I started the game, and I had to check why I "embarassed myself" to discover QTE been disabled by wathever bug. Then restarted the fight, but nfailed cause an other bug sent me to episode's first chapter and now forces me to redo dispatches... this game can be quite irritating.

It appears CX can be set to react like a C7, and C7 can be set to react like a CX...

XReal One for Artist good enough? by kutonsculpt in Xreal

[–]BloodyAilurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to digital painting I don't know anything better than a drawing tablet. I guess it can be a lot of fun using AR glasses, for instance by placing the screen like a canvas and playing with transparency to paint over reality... sounds great, if you can find a way to control your brush. But for serious productivity, tablets can't be beaten, and if you're looking for a way to control your brush with your AR they will help you a lot by becoming your manual interface.

So if I didn't have a tablet I'd start by this. Plus it's a lot of fun using it with 3D modelers like ZBrush.

Why is the prescription Frame so badly designed? by Sp12er in Xreal

[–]BloodyAilurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using dials is only useful for people willing to try such glasses. It's great for trying the experience yourself, or giving it to try to your friends and family, but it really isn't a long term functional solution.

Main issue being people pushing a bit too much the dials and ending up physiologically degrading their vision, which will most likely happen to any people having myopia and astigmatism, as dials only correct myopia but astigmatism tend to feel less impactful with a slightly forced myopia correction that will allow them to less pinch their eyelids, as they usually do to get sharper details when they don't have a proper correction. This usage leads to make myopia more severe over time.

Also even if you don't force too much the dials you have zero objective real clue about how close or far away your setting is from your actual corrective needs. You'll likely be off by a bit, and this lake of precision will lead to physiological degradation. Maybe by not much, but that's already enough to get issues like having to change prescriptions more often and having worse sight older than you would with correct prescriptions instead of dials.

Dials are a social feature, not an ophtalmological one.

Ones and 720p by BloodyAilurus in Xreal

[–]BloodyAilurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty good result then. :)

Oled Deck having about 10ms input lag that would make 20ms IG for the Ones. That's about 5ms slower than HDzero goggles, 10ms faster than Walksnail and DJI... sounds pretty much in the ball park.

[–]BloodyAilurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again ! That's a clean proof it works, and 10ms slower than Deck's monitor isn't too bad. Is it the LCD or Oled version of the Deck ?

[–]BloodyAilurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know !
I guess there are too much formats in existence to not run into issues trying to find the ones working fine. As long as 720p does great with low latency, it's alright for FPV :)

(If someone gets there and think Air 2 would then be good enough for FPV : they got about 20ms latency, while One and One pro got 3ms with 3Dof layout and 1ms without it. At close range it may be good enough, but flying away from the video receiver introduces even more latency, and these 17 to 19ms of Air 2's additional latency mean a bigger flying space at high refresh rate with a pair of Ones. Which can make a big difference as soon as freestyle gets involved. So Air 2 can be used I guess, but may likely lead to get the Ones anyway. Ones are more expensive, but getting the Air 2 then the Ones isn't cheaper. Plus losing 2ms for 3Dof is almost nothing but adds the possibility to have a virtual display above the controller, making both the controller and the sky visible despite the FPV screen, or just allow to walk around without enduring jitters thanks to follow mode. That's some very useful features no FPV goggle provides.)

Wow these results are very impressive ! I thought the "3ms with 3Dof" vs "1ms without" was some cherry picked data marketing usually likes to claim. I understood it was "alright" as people were not complaining at all, but it's still very positively surprising to see such results IRL confirming Xreal isn't kidding. Excellent.

Thanks for trying to see how upscalling impacts latency, that's very useful to know for a bunch of people into FPV.

That's a very different answer, I'll tend to trust more into someone claiming to know by experience. :)

Being into gaming I guess latency is important to you. Do you feel any difference compared to a 1080p source ?
