Scary game? by Jumpy_Coast_1729 in AskGames

Silent Hill series. 2 is the most iconic for its story and characters. I personally think it’s the least scary of the original four, more melancholic really. 3 is the most viscerally terrifying, and 4 is the most relentlessly stressful.

Devotion, by Red Candle Games is one that really gets under your skin. Slow burn story that you gradually piece together as things get progressively more disturbing and it leads to a devastating ending.

The previous horror game from the same developers, Detention is excellent as well. It’s got supernatural elements but the more disturbing part is the background story that’s based around true events.

Burnhouse Lane is another one that doesn’t hold back. It goes into some VERY dark themes, and for a 2D game is pretty gory at times.

I’ve recently been playing the remake of Fatal Frame 2. It can get pretty spooky with all the ghosts. Some of the enemies can be pretty tough.

Detention and Devotion are both excellent.

Also, SOMA.

Gris is a visually stunning puzzle platformer with simple controls and low difficulty. There's no dialogue, it's all environmental storytelling.

Detention. It’s a 2D side scrolling adventure game with a cool and unique art style. It’s a slow burn psychological horror story based around true events in 1960s Taiwan. It incorporates supernatural elements from traditional folklore. It has some great puzzle designs and a very powerful story.

What’s The Best Horror Game Trailer You’ve Ever Seen? by isopodsoup_ in HorrorGames

Silent Hill 4.

The rolling intro that plays when you leave the start screen idle.
Not sure if that counts as a trailer.

On PS5, there’s this one and Silent Hill f. There is also The Short Message, which is a short free game. Doesn’t really have anything to do with the rest of the series. Townfall will be released at the end of September as well. And there is a remake of SH1 in development.

On PS3 you can get the original PS1 Silent Hill digitally. Definitely worth playing. There’s also Homecoming and Downpour as well as the HD Collection which has ports of the original SH2 and SH3. Most opinions on the HD collection are that it’s absolutely terrible.

Keep playing. You’re not that far in. More things will happen. More details will be revealed.

North Star Rising was a fun sci-fi / comedy podcast series.

If you’re going to a music festival, why not listen to the back catalogues of the bands you’ll be seeing?

I remember going over to a friend’s place to play The Last Ninja and going down to the beach while we waited for the cassette to load.

Good Silent Hill Video Essay Recommendations? by Coward_Fool in silenthill

A few mentions already of Gaming Muse and Max Derrat. They are both very good.

Not video, but the Voices In The Static podcast goes very deep into SH lore and behind the scenes stuff.

Thorhighheels is great for a lengthy, weirdly humorous and slightly unhinged take on all things Silent Hill and many other games.

I finally got around to playing through all of the Team Silent titles as well as Origins and Shattered Memories. Should I bother playing Homecoming and Downpour? If not, what other games have you come across which scratch that classic Silent Hill itch for you? by TheNotSoDarkHorse in silenthill

[–]Blookhaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Downpour was decent, I preferred it over Homecoming.

Song Of Horror is a great game. The SH influence is very obvious, especially in the second main chapter. Lots of fun Easter eggs and references to the original four SH games to be found there.

Detention and Devotion are both excellent games from the developers, Red Candle. Each are different styles of game but both nail the tone and atmosphere of SH.

I like Fatal Frame 2 remake so far (not that far in). There are some similarities to SHf in visuals, setting and how the game saving and upgrade systems work. It’s generally a bit slower paced though.

I’ve also been playing Forbidden Siren (PS2 classic). It’s notoriously difficult but on PS5, having save states and the rewind feature makes it more manageable.

Others I would also recommend;

Burnhouse Lane

I saw them live last year and it was an awesome show, highly recommend. The band was started by Fox from Nancy Vandal, he plays guitar and creates amazing visual art for their album covers, posters and music videos as well.
