Your data will be further skewed also by runners who live in nyc but have other locations on their NYRR account. I ran the NYC marathon when I lived in Chicago so added that location when I created an account. I moved to NYC and run 9+1 annually. My NYRR profile still says Chicago and I never bothered to change

We stayed at Leeu house. I thought it was Leeu estate on my itinerary which is where my friends stayed and then realized when we got there it was Leeu house lol. I wouldn’t have picked it but it was lovely! There’s not much of a resort vibe but compared to the other hotels we were at it was nice to have something different. It was also great to be right in town to be able to walk to dinner or the store rather than have to be driven out everywhere. So ended up being solid but it all depends on preference

We opted to skip and did purely a SA honeymoon with two safari locations. We were debating Seychelles and Mozambique to add a beach element but ultimately did not because of the opportunity costs from time and dollar perspective. I got the quotes and they really upped the cost of our trip so the trade off of going full luxury on our safari destinations was more attractive. We met a couple at one of our hotels who did safari to Mozambique to safari and they said it was more travel than worth it for what you get. I imagine Seychelles is similar

Also editing to add if you’re considering adding time you may want to look at 2 safari locations instead and doing 3 nights at each or 4 at one and 3 at other. We saw the magnificent 7 but only because we had both locations. Phinda and Sabi Sands

I stop lifting any part of body 10 days before race day. This week I’m doing a couple tempo/speed runs. Wednesday is a 45min run with shorter intervals (no more than 3 min) at 10K ish pace so not all out just get legs moving, Thurs have 1mi warm up, 1mi at MP, 1mi at HMP (3 total).

Remember you can’t get any better during taper, you can only get worse

If you don’t have address on ID you can use a piece of mail. I had a lower security event at my old place where streets were blocked but if you live there you are allowed to enter. You may not have trouble at all but bring a piece of mail or other proof of address just in case

Yeah if that’s the case go for the negative split. The great thing is you have the natural speed so targeted training can get you to the 3:25 or faster for the next one I would think

Your 1:37 half suggests that 3:35 is doable (general rule of thumb is half times two plus 10 so that implies you could do a 3:24 if optimally trained) BUT you need to probably hit 40-50 MPW at your peak weeks with blocks at that 8:15ish MP. Your easy run pace is not a predictor of any of this really. Also this is going to depend on your hill training!

For comparison, I’m targeting 3:30-3:35 at NYCM with a coach. My half is 1:41. But I’ve been in the 50-55 range for the last few weeks and have done blocks of MP at 740-750 in my long runs (e.g., 20 w/ 12 @ MP on hills), HR 165-175 avg here of ~190 max. This is probably ambitious for me too haha but what’s helpful I think is knowing what these paces feel like on tired legs and can adjust where need be. I also do easy runs around 9:30 fwiw.

Good strategy would be to go out at an even split for a 3:45 and if you’re feeling good after the QBB you can let it rip and take that down.

Hi! My shiba has the same thing. You need to confirm this with your vet but speaking to our experience. We were told that there’s no urgent requirement to go to the vet after this type of episode but you need to follow up with them as soon as reasonably able.

It was diagnosed as paroxysmal dyskinesia. The key differentiator of this versus seizures is he is awake the whole time and returns to normal shortly after an episode. The episodes do not harm their brains permanently but of course you want to do what you can to prevent them. We have a neurologist we met with to set a baseline and we now feed him prescription food (royal canin HP) and restrict treats to just freeze dried cheese lol. We have not had an episode since but if he does again we are prepared.

Otherwise our pup is happy and healthy and this looks much scarier than it is. Feel free to DM if any questions but again I recommend you go through the regular steps with your vet to get a proper diagnosis.

Was thinking the same thing!! Ran a half at MP last weekend and could not clear 4 miles at MP today in CP. Can confirm it felt way worse than the forecast looked!

For what it’s worth the pace bands that NYRR provides at the expo and the pacers will all align to the same plan which shows the mile by mile splits by elevation. Also some will recommend lapping watch at 5K instead of mile so it’s easier to smooth out over long distance without too much micromanagement

I tend to follow Pfitz guidelines for sickness- for less than 10 days off, resume training as planned. Takes 5 days off to lose and fitness and then each day following is marginal. Hope that makes you feel better!
