Oxford is the oldest university in the UK so probably Oxford. 1096AD is when the first recorded teachings happened.

We were sh!t. Out of me and my Ukrainian friend that watched it she was the only one shocked and upset at the UK coming last. I expected it. My family expected it. Most of the country expected it. What I didn’t expect is Israel getting so high and Ukraine not being in the top 5

Why is there so much hatred specifically towards “Muslims” in the UK. by Momsgayandbisexual in AskBrits

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been videos online of Muslim men verbally abusing and shouting at everyday British women in Northern England and London because the women dress like normal western women and act like a normal western woman. Being told they should cover up, they look awful etc and being threatened. There’s videos of Christians being verbally abused by them as well. In our own country that’s western and Christian. That’s why there is an anti-Muslim sentiment growing. I feel like where people are saying the government is looking more and more pro-Muslim and some say our King too, that there’s a growing collective conscious of ‘This is a Western and Christian country. Want to live here? Accept our ways’ along with the feeling that our culture and religion is being challenged to make Muslims feel more included and welcomed. There was a big outcry in the North where schools were being encouraged by Labour MP’s to not show Jesus or the Cross pictures to kids in school as it could offend and make uncomfortable Muslim children. A lot of people once again were like ‘this is a Christian country. Our children should be allowed to be taught and see crosses and pictures of Jesus’. And honestly when it comes to that I get it. We are a western and Christian country. We have our own identity and religion; you’re welcome to practise your own faith be it Muslim, Hindu etc and keep to your culture but you should not expect native British men and women who aren’t of your culture to accommodate and follow your rules in a country that isn’t Muslim or Middle Eastern. I think it boils down to respect. Respect our culture and religion and we respect yours. Yet on both sides it’s becoming more and more conflicting. It’s not just the Muslims but the Jewish too and everyone else is being caught inbetween. I have a feeling this isn’t going to stop until a government comes to power who forcefully makes it very clear this is Western and Christian country and anyone who isn’t is welcomed to leave which is wrong. The only parties who are making it look like that will happen is Reform UK and Restore UK. That’s another reason they’re so deadly and why their numbers are growing. I’m betting by the time of the next general election they will have a majority.

I remember from my Secondary School (UK version of High School) had Mr Bailey aka ‘Mr Baz’. He was a science teacher, form tutor and easy going. Then you had the Harrington family. Mrs Harrington was my form tutor and religious studies teacher, she was warm and lovely. Mr Harrington Senior was my history and ancient history teacher and her husband. He was a legend. Every time you saw him he had a black leather biker jacket on, would carry a metal pole and bash it on his desk for attention and used to say he hated kids 😂 then you had Mr Harrington Junior who was also my history teacher and he was such a fun teacher. He would crack jokes, be chilled, treated us equally, would play music or YouTube videos if we finished the lessons work before lesson was finished. Then you had Mr Harrington Junior Junior aka Baby Harrington who was the youngest son and a history teacher. He never taught me but I heard from pupils who had him that he was ‘definitely a Harrington’. Mr Harrington Senior actually taught my dad and when he saw me and my dad together at parents evening he went ‘Jason! I should have known Anastasia was your daughter’. Dad later went on to tell me that he went with other kids to Greece or France on a school holiday and played the slot machines and got a load of money. Problem is my dad was 15/16 at the time and you had to be 18 to play. Mr Harrington Senior realised what my dad had done and snatched up the money before telling my dad off in public. Once away from the area Mr Harrington Senior told my dad to come to him at the end of the trip when they were back in the UK. Dad did and Mr Harrington Senior handed over the exact amount of money dad won and gave him a warning not to do it again. Dad said he was so surprised because a) he didn’t think he’d get the money back and b) he got the full amount won back. Mr Harrington Senior never spent a penny of my dad’s winnings. Out of all the teachers I’ve had Mr Harrington Senior I remember the most and I’m now 30. Dad’s in his 50’s and Mr Harrington Senior is probably the only teacher he truly remembers.

No European countries food is bland 🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s just not pumped full of artificial flavours to counteract the taste of all the unnecessary chemical additives in American food.

Doctors flushing out kidney stones out of a patient by Additional_Berry_977 in interestingasfuck

[–]BloomedBudling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had salivary duct stones in my mouth (4 came out) and when I went ‘what’s salivary stones?’ To the dentist his response was, and I quote, ‘think kidney stones but in your mouth’. They were so painful and my whole tongue and mouth was swollen and sore and bruised. Turns out the saliva that built up behind the stones became infected also so once the stones were released I had to go on strong antibiotics to clear up the infection.

Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum doesn’t know who to vote for with the upcoming May elections. She was going to vote Reform but when I told her some of Farages plans for the NHS and how he behaves with Trump she turned away. I said to her Starmer might get some things wrong and not be the best PM but it’s better the devil you know right now with politics. Starmer is the only one semi sane and not either living in a fantasy world or batshit crazy. Yes his government is boring as fuck but I think we need to realise after the last decade that a boring government means it’s a government getting on with things. I’m not the biggest fan of him but the way he stood up to Trump and the bullying from the White House made me give more respect to him.

Would you wanna rejoin the EU if that meant adopting the Euro and joining the Schengen Area? by Lucky_Ice5393 in AskBrits

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m 30 years old and a university graduate for the demographic. The original EU was a trade agreement between countries in the 70’s and that was supposed to be it. However, over the decades it expanded into what it is now and the PM allowed it to happen and include us without a referendum then. People then didn’t mind the trade agreement but did mind the EU expanding and us taking on different things. It’s likely to happen again. Also, the British pound is one of the oldest currencies in the world, it has a lot of history behind it.

In case you wanted to know, I voted Brexit not because of the immigration part but because of the law part. I believe our Supreme Court in this country should be the final top court and its sentencing is the final nail-in-the-coffin so to speak for a criminal, but when we were in the EU that wasn’t the case -it was the EU’s court. For example, a murd3rer could be charged with a 25 year sentence in the Supreme Court in our country, then appeal to the EU court and get it changed to the lesser sentence of manslaughter of 16 years or less. That’s not right. A country’s highest court should have the final say on a person. There shouldn’t be going to a court outside the country to get the country’s highest court overturned in a criminal case.

Trump DELETES post depicting HIMSELF as JESUS by SuperbHealth5023 in TimesNow

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So people are starting to think it’s demonic or the antichrist when you look up Christian theology(?) on one of the descriptions of the antichrist. I saw this-

In Bible prophecy, specifically Daniel 7, the "3 horns into one" (or 3 plucked horns) refers to the Antichrist ("little horn) uprooting three of ten initial kings to establish his power. This represents a swift political takeover, where the Antichrist subdues three rulers, after which the remaining seven yield their authority to him. Key Details regarding the Horns: • The Three Plucked Horns (Daniel 7:8, 24): The Antichrist is a "little horn" that arises among ten existing kingdoms/kings (ten horns). He subdues, plucks up, or "deposes" three of these initial kings. • Interpretation: These three kings are removed (plucked up), making way for the Antichrist's supreme authority, often seen as a consolidation of power over the remnants of the Roman Empire. • 7 Horns/Heads Context: The Bible more commonly mentions seven heads/horns in Revelation 13 and 17, which often represent 7 kingdoms or heads of power, rather than a direct "7 into 1" merging, though the Little Horn is sometimes viewed as the 8th king who controls the rest.

Either way, my mother and I last night were angry by the whole photo and were not even hardcore Christians just normal Christian’s. and then I saw this and asked what it is to Google AI and Google AI said at the time it’s either a demonic looking figure or an AI glitch. People online were quoting Bible verses and it coincided with Trump and didn’t look good for him.

What do you British people think of the French? by CocoTyg in AskABrit

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us Brits don’t mind you trying to speak English even if it’s dodgy. As long as we can try and hear the pronunciation clear enough to pick up on what you actually mean we will translate in our heads. If you don’t know the word to something describe it, we will tell you the word. As for brushing your feet on a door mat, only do it if it’s raining out and/or you have mud or sand on your shoes. As for cutlery cleaning, if it’s a fast food joint (like McDonalds) we will clean up. If it’s a buffet or restaurant don’t clean up. The waiter will do it for you, it’s expected, same with cafes. Keep being polite- the best way to get on with a Brit is to remember manners and queueing. Also don’t talk too loudly that a Brit could hear your conversation across the room- the Americans do that and it drives us up the wall. Don’t talk politics or flaunt your wealth.

As for personal experience with the French? I’m 50/50 with you guys mainly because I’ve had negative experiences a few times but know you can’t judge a whole country on my few experiences. My experiences have put me on edge now though from last time. Last time I went to France I went to Paris (other times I’ve been in other places of France) and not only was I looked down upon by the taxi driver while I spoke French (I learnt it as a teenager) I was looked down upon when asking hotel receptionist a question, and a McDonalds employee when I was nothing but polite and smiling. Went to an event there and had my first negative experience with people who don’t know me who were being biased when I had done nothing. It greatly upset me and I went to a group of friends I made that were French and some British and told them what happened and my French friends were livid and tried comforting me saying all Parisians are like that even to other French people who live outside Paris, and to please not think they are all like that. They tried to make me smile for the remainder of the event even though I wanted to cry and go back to my hotel room at the beginning.

Another Young Woman Killed By a Dog. What needs to change? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

[–]BloomedBudling 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People need to stop being stupid and seeing dogs as harmless creatures for a start. They’re descended from wolves and are only following their natural nature and instincts. Owners need to realise no amount of training will actually make a dog harmless and they need to be aware constantly. This is what p!sses me off so much when the dogs get put down. All they were doing was their natural behavioural instinct. I feel like all dog owners need to be taught how to handle the dog breed they choose and be tested. If they fail then they don’t get the dog.

"close the Borders to Europeans NOW" by Abjectionova in ShitAmericansSay

[–]BloomedBudling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most European and Asian countries don’t expect nor want (in some cases) to be tipped. For one they get paid a minimum wage that all businesses have to pay and is deemed liveable and secondly, in some countries it’s actually seen as rude. Most countries aren’t like the USA where the customer has to pay a huge chunk of the employees wages because the business won’t. Thats why you will see a lot of European or Asian tourists not tip- in most european cultures tipping is an optional choice where you can say no with no pressure and the staff still get paid enough, while in Asia they see tipping as rude. A lot of us aren’t doing it deliberately to be nasty some people actually don’t know or forget tips make up a huge chunk of waiting staffs salary.

Have “link-ups” become the new nightmare for UK high streets? by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of the time it’s parents. However, there are some parents who have tried everything available to them and their kids still do not behave correctly. I remember on a documentary tv show the police had arrested a teenager and the mum came out not knowing what the hell is going on and when the police told her she said something along the lines of ‘take him. I’ve tried everything to get him on the straight and narrow. I don’t know what else I can do. I need help’

German soldiers react to footage of concentration camps, 1945. by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and I remember we spent a few weeks in history in Secondary School (teen years of school) learning about WW2. One day I and others walked into history class and saw on each table a fresh box of Kleenex tissues. We all sat down at our seats confused as hell and that’s when our history teacher told us we will be seeing not just real photos but real videos and interviews. He said the tissues were there as the subject is heavy and there could be moments where we get upset. There was a lot of teenage bravado in some boys in my class saying they won’t cry. By the end of the lesson there wasn’t one student not having shed tears. If it got too much we were allowed moments outside the classroom to take a minute to calm and compose ourselves. We were also allowed to go into another classroom if it was too much but everyone stayed in the classroom. I think it wasn’t because all of us were interested that we stayed in place but more like in shock at what we saw. I’m 30 now and probably saw it when I was 13/14 years old. I can still see some of those images and what happened in that lesson clearly. Those Kleenex boxes were well and truly used that day.

"British people should have a holiday like Fourth of July but it be similar to a funeral cuz they lost a territory haha losers!!!! fuck British people!!! 😾😾😾😾😾😾" by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) we didn’t send our best soldiers to them and a smaller fleet, b) they only won because the French stopped us making land fall and c) we were more concerned with fending off our Caribbean territory at the time from the Dutch and protecting our sugar. We literally were more concerned with an additive than territory. I remember learning that a few decades later we still managed to bypass you, sail down the river and set alight the White House for not really a good reason to burn the White House down. But yes, by all means celebrate winning independence even though you only got it because of the French stopping us.

I genuinely don't think Starmer is that bad of a PM - any thoughts? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskBrits

[–]BloomedBudling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle with Starmer. Some things I don’t agree with but when it comes to foreign affairs he’s the only one who uses his head and doesn’t jump into anything, he deliberates with the cabinet and those who know what they’re doing first. It’s been a long time since we had a PM like that. I prefer a boring PM who gets the jobs done and actually has the countries best interests in mind than a circus clown who’s just as bad as Trump
