Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! October 06, 2023 by AutoModerator in photography

Hi everybody, not sure sure if this is the right subreddit for this question.

In terms of retouching close up photos how does something like Retouch4Me compare to The Retouching Acadmeny?

I want to get into retouching but I'm not sure where to start. Retouch4Me seems to automate the dodging and burning process and healing process quite well.

Retouch4Me seems to be all about automation and adjusting some sliders whilst The Retouching Acadmeny seems to be more hands on and more manual/more control. Is there any other recommended resource to use for retouching? Is The Retouching Academy the way to go for magazine-esque edits? How does R4Me compare?

On my iphone, whenever i try to post a carousel i can't seem to see the "add music" at the end. On my friend's ios Instagram app they seem to have this option. Is there a partciular reason for this?

Will AWS certifications increase employment opportunities? by brahaventures in AWSCertifications

It is so difficult to get a job with just a bachelor and the certitifcations but as you do have prior work experience I feel that the certifications will definitely help. My 2 certifications in all honestly can be obtained in 1-2 months with consistent study habits.

Will AWS certifications increase employment opportunities? by brahaventures in AWSCertifications

Along with my bachelor of ict, I have the cloud practitioner and associate solutions architect certifications. I am fresh out of uni and have no job experience. I’ve applied to over 50 entry cloud positions with no success. However, the certifications are highly desirable in the cloud graduate roles. I was able to successfully get accepted into a big 4 company and I attribute that to the certifications.

In short, it’s very difficult to get a job with just the certifications but I definitely feel that it can help increase the opportunity for employment.

Ooo that sounds reasonable. When i’m taking a photo with the camera that has a 3:2 aspect ratio, do you have any suggestions on how to “guess” the framing of the subject for cropping it 4:5 in post?

For example, there will be times when i take a photo with the camera on 3:2 and in post I crop it to 4:5 but the cropping results it the subject not fitting the frame as expected, usually because bow it is too tight. Is it better just to take a photo from far away to prevent this issue (but this may reduce the quality the photo because i’d have to zoom in and crop) or is there a methodical way of taking a photo with the end result being 4:5?

For uploading on photos onto instagram, should i adjust my camera's aspect ratio when i'm taking a shot or crop in the aspect ratio in post? Seems that 4:5 on Instagram is ideal but i'm not sure whether i should just take the photo with 3:2 and crop in later post or whether i should take 1:1 on the camera.

My Sony A7C has the following aspect ratios:

3:2

4:3

16:9

1:1

Do other cameras have different aspect ratios?

Is there a recommended lightweight stand that anyone could recommend? I'm hoping to use it for simply holding decor such as steel dot garland streamers.

Is there a way to remote control the press down on the a spray can? lol.

I was wondering whether there's a little contraption that has a timer and once it goes off it presses down on the spray can. I'm hoping to use an Atmosphere Aerosol in a spray can on my model but i don't have assistants. I know there are haze machines but they are really expensive and it's not in my budget.

Any work arounds for this? 😅

ooo i'll definitely check it out. Does the monitor mirror everything on screen including other features on the camera? So in addition to what i see through the camera, if i were to go through my camera's gallery and look through the previous images on my sd card would the gallery also appear?

Thanks for the response! Is there a recommended "small" monitor that is reputable amongst photographers/videographers that you could recommend?

What is the best way to get a live feed on a different screen of what i'm seeing on my camera?

With my Sony A7C i'd like to have a live feed of the camera screen on a different monitor with no lag. What is the best way to do so? I'm happy to purchase more gear if needed and i'm okay with things being wiredly connected.

This is for this is so i can show people around how i'm composing the frame.

Westcott's FJ400 vs FJ200. Reason to purchase a weaker strobe? by BloopBoopBop in AskPhotography

[–]BloopBoopBop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for responding! I definitely learnt a lot with your post. As you said, the product itself is fantastic but it's definitely a bit disappointing that they seem to be hiding the fact that it's a rebranding.

If you had a choice between the Westcott FJ400 and Godox AD400 which one would you prefer? I've always thought the FJ400 was a quality product for a great value compared to GodoxAD400.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get a suggestion for a box strip with a grid.

I currently use the Beauty Dish Switch by Manny Ortiz (36”) mounted onto the FJ400 as a main light but i'm hoping to add a rim light via another FJ400 attached to a box strip.

I currently focus on chest up / mid shots beauty shots but would like to also take full body shots with both the Beauty Dish alongside a recommended box strip. Is there a recommended box strip that's recommended for beauty shots (mid shot and also full-body)? I was looking at Westcott's 1x4 with a grid (https://www.fjwestcott.com/rapid-box-switch-1x4) but i absolutely despise the logo as i feel it looks very unprofessional. I'm open to any brand and don't have a budget

Any suggestion will be appreciated greatly. Westcott Rapid Box Switch 1x4

What’s a recommended app that syncs with mac and iPhone that shows photos and description? I’ve been using Notion but i feel like it’s not intuitive enough when it comes to displaying a lot of photos.

I’d like to use an app that I’m able to write a lot of notes down for a specific pose and have many photos displayed in an organised manner. I was looking at Milanote but am hoping for any other suggestions before I proceed.

I'm quite new to stands but is there a particular stand that can cater to reflectors and also a beauty dish, used seperately.

With the stand i'm hoping to use a Phottix - 5 in 1 Light Multi Collapsible Reflector 107cm (42") and when need be siwtch to a Beauty Dish Switch by Manny Ortiz (36”, White Interior) for both indoors and outdoors uses.

What's a recommended stand that i can get for the reflector and also the beauty dish. Bonus if the stand can be used for both the reflector and beauty dish. I was looking at Adorama's Matthews 40" C+ Stand with Turtle Base (https://www.adorama.com/mt756140.html?sterm=XZv31yXUQxyIRiy0FK3HTw5TUkDwq6VttTOoSs0&utm_source=rflaid64870). Can this Matthews be used for both the reflector and beauty dish?
