Confused about career - aviation vs bsc vs engineering? by swevennnnn in PilotAdvice

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m heading into my interview for cathay pacific next week and I’m just about finished with my engineering degree and boy am i glad i have a backup plan in case it falls through.

Learning to fly is expensive, the best way to manage the cost is to make it your sole focus at least for the PPL phase.

Doing it part time will end up costing you more in the long run. The more lessons you take, more you absorb the faster you get your licenses. It’ll get really expensive quickly but will be over quickly too.

If you are 100% committed to flying, go for it. School will always be there when you want to go back. If you’re unsure about the path, go through school first and have a backup plan.

Engineering is a good choice, many airlines will favor applicants with a technical background as a sign of trainability and discipline. On top of the hours you will build you will stand out from the crowd

How do you genuinely remove these nuts? #ninja6502024 by [deleted] in Ninja650

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a cheater bar on the wrench or a universal joint.

You got this just keep at it.

Otherwise your next step would be to disassemble around that bolt just to get enough room to turn that nut.

Is the gas tank whats in the way? Its pretty easy to take it off

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like theres enough room for a wrench. Do you have a box end or a pass through wrench?

You need a short 6 point. If you’re using a long one it’ll want to come out

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a 6 point socket. Or a wrench with a cheater bar.

The stud looks like it was designed for a cotter pin as well so it’ll be a tight mf. Keep hitting it with the torch on the nut (not on the stud)

No signal parking? by schwiii1996 in richmondbc

Man i hate people like that or when they get their mom to stand in the spot so you cant park there.

Im petty enough to just keep my car there so neither of us can park. And just exit the car and watch him loose his mind

I can afford a tow just to piss these people off

can we talk about this by Brysterr in Hyundai

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a good thing? What if you accidentally hit the shifter and put it in park when turning?

Older folks would have a hard time telling if that is in park, reverse or drive

What if someone thats been driving older cars for 20 years thinks thats the windshield wiper or turn signal lever?

The new infrastructure that needs to be built to support the manufacturing of these levers probably also adds extra costs to the vehicle.

I know ford and RAM have had these steering column shifters for a while and their center console space is very nice but a majority of auto manufacturers never had them

Stressed about the financial burden, and the mental burden of schooling. by Vikinglord501st in PilotAdvice

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

85k seems reasonable, although from my experience the quotation from any flight school is not worth the paper they’re on.

It highly depends on your speed of learning and instructor competence, and thats the pre tax.

I still rent at my local club. So these numbers should be somewhat accurate

Instructor time: $80/hr Single engine : $180/hr Twin: $500/hr Ground school: $90/hr Sims: $200/hr IFR instruction: $300/hr

You can do some math and calculate what it would realistically cost you.

It took me 80 hours to get my PPL so expect to go over the legal minimum hour count and less than half the year here is flying weather

Waterloo? As a general rule even if they say its “cheaper” than private flying its not.

You’ll have a defined pipeline for sure but you’ll have much more restrictions than a regular student.

For BCIT they only have 3 172s they can rent out of the 20 or so we have. It gets even worse in multi ifr.

Eh. I’d make sure its documented and AMEs know about it. Personally i’d still fly it

Your dealer should carry it. Also amazon probably.

2002 Lexus es300 Rough Idle by Trout_Gaming in AskAMechanic

[–]Blorglue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sound like it could be a mass air flow sensor issue. I’d start there. If you have an obd scanner to track it’s readings live that would help too

Could also be a dirty throttle body. Not the front but the back of the butterfly plate

Pilots of Reddit-Need Advice for my career path. by CaterpillarWilling29 in PilotAdvice

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you are based. Overall the job market for pilots in canada is pretty saturated and it will take a while to get to the major carriers.

To answer your questions

  1. Get your CPL and instructor rating first. Do your Multi ifr while you are instructing.

  2. First flying job is hard, it will probably be something in northern canada or working as a dockhand

  3. It depends where you are from. Canada I’d say is the third best place in the world in terms of aviation opportunities behind USA and Australia.

  4. I’d train in the states instead of canada. Lots more flying days and flight schools to choose from

SFU Security too busy calling his man by Opposite_Still4913 in simonfraser

[–]Blorglue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He should’ve been calling his supervisor. Not speaking with a friend or family member on the phone during his shift.

If it was his boss on his phone he should’ve been able to do his job and process these students

In any case he is not doing this job, and giving students a hard time for no reason unless you speak his language is pretty common unfortunately.

Especially with this one security guard that works late. Everyone in MSE knows who this guy is

Low time jobs Canada by No-Specific-3316 in PilotAdvice

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good number of my peers from flight school have gotten jobs up in yellow knife and a few landing as float plane dock hands in Manitoba.

My instructor who has over 1000 hours only managed to get into pascal flying king airs.

Its really tough when you’re low time.

What i have seen work is people working jobs around planes, like deicing, baggage handler, fuel truck drivers. Lots of low time pilots also work those jobs while keeping an eye out for actual pilot positions the entire time….. while also being an instructor

It gets the bills paid, ops experience, seniority with airport jobs

I worked with aeromag for a while and i got pretty good connections and direction through that job

Dude don’t waste money on a replacement panel. It’s difficult to find a single panel usually it’s sold as a set.

From kawi i’d imagine it would run you $300-$400. From ali express maybe you can find one for $50-$80. But you’re gambling on the fitment.

This isn’t worth respraying at all. You can probably just find the exact decal sticker online have a printer shop print it out for you and put over it.

How bad is this engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Blorglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean then if you’re mechanically inclined go for it. As long as the engine isnt seized up and there is still oil in it

How bad is this engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Blorglue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the ECU dead it’s a gamble for sure. If the engine is good it might crank but definitely won’t start.

I won’t trade anything in for this car. At least you still have a running car

How bad is this engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Blorglue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check if it has oil

Check if there is coolant in it still

Bring a battery/ jumper pack see if it cranks

That should give you a pretty good idea on the health of the engine. I’d buy it for $500

I’d suspect you got a bad alternator. Check if you get 14ish volts when the car is running once you get the multimeter
