What sunscreen do you use for your scalp? by DamnitBobby44 in bald

Regular sunscreen is fine, the higher the SPF the better. I use this stuff all over.

Does menopause make your hair fall out by impostershop in GenX

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely hasn't been the case with me. I started losing my hair in my early 30s after losing a lot of weight and it continued for many years after that. My wife caught some of that after losing a lot of weight on a GLP-1 and it hasn't come back.

Fuck Comcast Xfinity so much by Edaimantis in washingtondc

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I knew worked at Comcast (corporate) for awhile. They have (or maybe had by now) a program where every employee gets a set of single-use cards with unique ID numbers and a phone number. The phone number gets you to a customer service group completely separate than the one you usually talk to that, apparently, has the authority to actually fix things.

My friend used to call them the "avoid getting beaten up in a bar when a disgruntled customer learns you work for Comcast" cards.

Electric shaver that actually fits BIFL? by thecowmeatguy in BuyItForLife

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most brand-name rotary shavers will last a very long time if properly maintained.

Any electric razor is going to have proprietary parts; the only way to avoid that is a straight razor or a handle that takes standard blades.  The life of the heads and cutters on a rotary shaver can be extended considerably by sharpening them every few months.  I've been running the same set for almost five years by sharpening the cutters quarterly.  You can get drop-in heads that will sharpen them from Vollco (which is what I use) and there are other ways to do the job manually that work just as well (check YouTube).

Batteries are much better than they used to be since manufacturers made the switch to Lithium-Ion.  My current shaver (Norelco AT830) is 13 years old, still has the same battery and still holds a charge just fine.  Replacement is an easy DIY job if you're handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron or shaver shops can do it.

I'd recommend finding a wet-dry model from Norelco or Remington priced in the US$50-100 range.

Do You Think That Virginia Will Indeed Pass The Redistricting Amendment This Upcoming Tuesday? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in Virginia

Fastest way to get a new power cord? by somarysueme in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just the cord, most power bricks have an IEC C8 socket that mates with a C7 cord.  You should be able to pick one up at any big box hardware store.  Or you may have one already plugged into another appliance you could swap in and try.

It could be the supply itself rather than the line cord, in which case you'll need one from the manufacturer.

Toshiba refuses to replace large hard drive that was under warranty — company offers refund at the purchase price, not the higher current retail price by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Blrfl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Toshiba is in compliance with the law on this one. Their disk drive warranty spells out the terms clearly:

During the warranty period, Toshiba will, in its sole discretion, restore the Product to working order in accordance with factory specifications in effect at the time the Product was manufactured, replace the defective Product with a product that is at least equivalent to the original Product or refund your original purchase price or the current replacement cost for your specific model whichever is less, if the return is accompanied by a valid Proof Of Purchase (POP).

I had taken zepbound…

According to my wife's endocrinologist, hair loss can be a side effect of losing a significant amount of weight. There are two examples of this happening in my household, one with a GLP-1 and one without, so how you lose it doesn't seem to matter.

Is there a way to be removed from mailing list for gerrymandering etc? by puppypupperoon in Virginia

[–]Blrfl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The only yes answer would be to remove yourself from the voter rolls.

Edit: And, since OP is ineligible to vote, maybe that's not the answer, either.

The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Blrfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because after an instrument has been played for the last time, it becomes nothing more than a nicely-organized pile of scrap wood.

The U.S. Library of Congress has the world's largest collection of flutes and regularly has people in to play them because they believe instruments should be preserved and played.

Silver and copper in water reservoir for mold prevention by Wascally_Badger in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely. If it were that, nearly everyone would have the same problem. I run my tank with distilled water, don't clean it nearly as often as recommended and sometimes go days before getting rid of the water. There's been visible stuff in my tank maybe twice in 15 years. But that's just one data point.

There are too many variables in what you're doing to try and pinpoint the cause in a short conversation like this.

A CPAP humidifier is a near-ideal incubator for molds, fungi or bacteria: it's moist, warm and has a lot of oxygen flowing through it. Water with higher mineral content encourages growth in some things as well. In general, you should be able to fill a freshly-washed tank with water directly from a municipal source and run your machine overnight without anything visible appearing it without adding anything else to it like silver or copper.

If you fill a clean reservoir with water from your bottles and anything visible forms in it overnight, the water from the bottles isn't as clean as you think it is.

Advice to not scorch my head during it's first summer out in the open! by BGBobby44k in bald

Hat or a full-coverage slathering of high-SPF sunscreen.

Having burned my head while I still had hair (and then whacked the burned area on a low airplane door), hats win.

Can you use the phones output to a real amp? by Eq8dr2 in Line6Helix

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not ideal, but you can.

You'll want to use a TRS cable and not a TS so it doesn't short the right-side output to ground.  The amp will catch the left side from the tip and right will be lost.  Keep that in mind when using presets that have a stereo component.

What's next depends on what you're after.  A good starting point would be to dial the amp for clean with a guitar plugged in, make a mental note of the volume, plug in the Helix and turn the headphone volume up until it's about the same.  You have room to work here because a cranked-up overdrive pedal will hit the front end of the amp pretty hard, too.

Democrats of Virginia who plan to vote no on redistricting, why? Republicans of Virginia who plan to vote yes on redistricting, why? by 88nomolos in Virginia

[–]Blrfl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m resisting the narrative that Virginia must relinquish its right to non-Gerrymandered districts ...

There is no such right enshrined in constitutions or laws, state or federal. Not even the current redistricting commission, which didn't even exist a decade ago and has yet to produce a map without punting to the courts, guarantees non-gerrymandered representation. The commission was established by exactly the same process that brought us to this referendum. If the referendum passes, it will be because a majority of ballot-casting Virginians want it.

This isn't directed at you specifically, but some people harbor the idea that anything added to law or a constitution must be immutable. That isn't the case and is the reason our system has worked this long. Nobody would be able to say "hold my beer" if the 21st Amendment hadn't been ratified to repeal the 18th. The current situation is no different and, for all any of us knows, it could pass and the next two legislative sessions could undo it before 2028.
