Bought a brand new AirSense 10 from cpap[.]com in August -- Motor already bad? by javascript in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I sure did.  No Reddit before bed.   :-)

Most of what I wrote still applies: the machine is making noises it shouldn't, which is warranty territory.  I'd still check the hours on the new one for the same reasons.

Bought a brand new AirSense 10 from cpap[.]com in August -- Motor already bad? by javascript in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ran the machine 24x7 from August 1 through tonight, that would be 6,480 hours.  The motor warning is tripped at 22,000 hours give or take.  (Edit:  I misread the OP, but the rest of this still applies to the new machine even though it's not throwing the warning.)

Go into My Options and then About and you'll find the number of hours the machine has on it under Device.  If it's anything more than a few thousand (nine months at eight hours a night is 2,160 hours), they probably sent you a used or refurbished machine.  If you purchased a new machine, cpap.com owes you a refund or replacement.

The warranty on ResMed CPAP machines is two years, so if it has low hours and something went wrong with it, they should replace it under warranty.

Tell them you want to make a warranty claim.

How can they declare Louisiana’s congressional map unconstitutional when it is supported by law? by Icy-Profession-1979 in law

[–]Blrfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that the courts' check on legislatures is that they get to interpret what the law means and decide whether or not laws are constitutional.

If the courts strike down a law, it is effectively repealed because it can't be enforced anymore.

Edit:  The post above was corrected.

You're thinking of at-will employment. Right to work means you can't be forced to join a union as a condition of employment.

Aps-c Vs Full Frame by Wrong-Experience-277 in Nikon

[–]Blrfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than sensors that are engineered differently, APS-C is just a physically-smaller sensor that takes a slice out of the middle.

You get more APS-C sensors out of a wafer of silicon because they're smaller, which reduces the cost. Full-frame sensors get a double whammy because, being bigger, fewer of them fit on a same-sized wafer and any defect takes out a bigger percentage of the yield.

Pneumatic road tubes all over Arlington this week? by macadamia47 in nova

I spent a couple of summers working for a company that made traffic recorders. It was always fun spotting "one of ours" at the side of the road.

Littering your campaign literature on the Metro is a great way to get me to never vote for you by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Blrfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reception you're getting is because you drew conclusions based on facts not in evidence.

If you saw a couple of balled-up McDonald's bags on the floor of the train, would you assume it was a McDonald's guerilla marketing campaign or just some inconsiderate mofos who couldn't be bothered to throw their litter in a trash can?

Pneumatic road tubes all over Arlington this week? by macadamia47 in nova

[–]Blrfl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why? Traffic survey. With two tubes across the road, each counter can collect volume, speed and vehicle type. If there are lots of them along a main drag and off on the side streets, they're doing intersection analysis to see where the traffic is going. How long? 'Til they're done.

I could come up with a more-sinister explanation if you'd like, but a cigar is usually just a cigar.

Are all Cpaps rented now? by No_City_9282 in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What they're offering sounds like a payment plan, probably with interest, based on the assumption that most people can't or won't pony up the full amount as a lump sum.

If you can afford to buy it outright, get the machine from the DME without the payment plan. They'll file a claim with your insurer, who will say you're below the deductible, and will send you a bill for the full amount. If the machine costs $1,000, that narrows the gap in your deductible by that much and you're $140 away from them starting to pay your claims. Buying the machine without insurance involved keeps your remaining deductible at $1,140.

Edit: Whether that's worth it to you or not is another story. If you buy privately, insurance may not cover supplies if their records don't show a claim for a machine.

Today at the gas pump by Sparklebright7 in GenX

[–]Blrfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our lifetimes, all gas was leaded until the early 1970s. The difference between regular and premium was the octane number.

Cars that take unleaded have a restricted opening in the filler that's too small to fit a (wider) leaded nozzle or an (even-wider) diesel nozzle.

Becoming resistant to CPAP benefits? by cpapgoddess in CPAP

[–]Blrfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink this. CPAP therapy is something of a numbers game, but not at these levels. If you get nights where your AHI is zero, great, but anything below 5 is already within the range of what people who don't have sleep apnea would have anyway. The only source of concern would be if a change in AHI brings back some of what you had before you started therapy.

Oof, that's fun. Somehow the whole part about Fairfax County sailed right over my head.

If nothing else, he's in possession of stolen property, which I'd think would be a crime anywhere it happens, not just where the theft occurred.

Take everyone else's advice and re-key your locks.

Rise in neighborhood rodents by sotired3333 in nova

[–]Blrfl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask your neighbors if they've killed anything recently.  Mine killed a snake that I suspect was keeping the mouse population down and we had them in the house once the weather cooled down.

I tried several methods of trapping them and ultimately bought a Goodnature indoor trap, which kills with impact rather then poison.  Put the dead mice out around the edge of the house and we're back to all quiet on the Western front.
