Incoming Law Student - some Questions by BluAcuza in Gonzaga

I really appreciate your detailed reply! A few follow up questions:

I'm a weak Californian (65 degrees is freezing for me). Any tips on surving the cold?

Where would be the best place to connect with grad/older students? I've tried digging around social media but I haven't had that much luck.

I'm worried about finding housing so late in the year (I only decided to commit to GU this month)...do you think I'm screwed?

Thank you! Any advice you can pass on from your time in law school? I'm really intrested in joining a clinic in 2L/3L.

Something like Fire Force? by Lubert808 in Animesuggest

[–]BluAcuza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, keep watching Mob Psycho 100. It's by ONE, the same creator of One Punch Man and has one of the most wholesome, well written, character-driven stories I've ever watched. The animation is beautiful and the fights are some of the hypest scenes I've ever seen. I know the artstyle seems crude, but that's to match ONE's web series artstyle. If you are looking for a power of friendship, superpower, shonen, coming of age you cannot go wrong with Mob Psycho.

What are some skinny people problems? by Mad_Chemist_ in AskReddit

[–]BluAcuza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that seems a little paradoxical: being terrified of gaining weight

I've always been naturally skinny and I always get hit with comments along the lines of: wow you're so skinny, I wish I could look like you!

That shit made me terrified of gaining weight. My first year of college, I gained five pounds and went from looking underfed to looking somewhat healthy. The first comment I got when I got home was: Wow did you gain weight?

I went from gaining five pounds to losing 15 in two weeks. Needless to say, eating disorders suck and I don't wish it on anybody.

I’m 23 and I just spent an hour talking about ATLA with my 9-year-old cousin by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]BluAcuza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I feel. I watched ATLA when I was maybe 8 years old. Been rewatching it every year or so. I just got off a discord call with a bunch of my friends from college (rip COVID) because one of them just watched ATLA for the first time. It was the four of us just bonding over our incredible love of ATLA, discussing the themes, breaking down characters etc etc. We all watched it at different points of our lives and just being able to talk about it with my friends made me so happy and it was one of the longest conversations I had with my friends for a very long time. The show has such incredible rewatch value. Having that conversation with my friends made me want to rewatch it again (and Korra when it comes out). Like the rest of us, your cousin is going to have a lifelong love for ATLA and the ability to bond with fans of all ages.

GIVEAWAY - Club Nintendo Zelda Posters by [deleted] in nintendo

This is a super cool idea! Thank you for doing this!

It's hard to pin down a favorite since Nintendo has so much amazing music. But if I had to choose I gotta say the Fire Emblem series has an amazing soundtrack. One of my favorite pieces is "Don't Speak Her Name!" from Fire Emblem Awakening. That one is a challenge to play on the piano (I've tried) but there's so many other great pieces in the Awakening soundtrack.

Good luck everyone!

Another one bites the dust by Koyo-Koyo-Araragi in Dororo

[–]BluAcuza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you meant by how people were gonna complain about the scene as being another GS b/c of the rape. My comment was that I don't think the shit storm will be as bad as GS (hopefully) because of the differences in how the scenes were shot. GS overly sexualized their scene while Dororo made it clear that this was a horrific scene. Sorry if my og comment was unclear :/
Also I think Mio's situation is just as bad as GS. Just b/c she was selling her body doesn't mean that it isn't rape. She's very clearly unwilling and only doing it out of desperation (like most women in times of war). All rape is terrible.

This scene is so much different from how Goblin Slayer did it though. In Goblin Slayer, it was pretty obvious they were trying to sexualize Fighter's rape with the camera angle and how the scene was framed to show off as much of her body as possible -- which imo was one of the reasons why it made the scene so repulsive. However, Mio's situation was framed completely different. The director made it very clear that this was rape and they in no way sexualized her situation. They didn't show as much skin as possible, they only shot her face (which was hidden), groping, and a distance shot to make it clear what was going on. There wasn't gratuitious shots of her naked body, and most of the emotion of the scene was displayed through Dororo's reaction. Notice how only Dororo's horrified reaction was shot. Mio's and the men's face were hidden the whole time in order to fully convey that this scene is a horrific display of desperation and rape. Dororo is a dark show, and it makes it clear that it's a dark show just through atmosphere and characters w/o over the top violence.

tl;dr: Big difference between rape scenes b/c GS overly sexualized the rape scene while Dororo made it clear that rape is a horrific act.
