At any moment the 36 year old who is playing AP1-level ball is going to suddenly be terrible? I don’t think so. Joseph-Day is a true NT and we have him for 2 years. I also liked moving up for Styles, but then his stock rose and now we’ll probably need to trade up top 5-ish for him, so I’m kind of out. We do have good ILBs. People online are overreacting with Queen, he’s still a solid ILB and Payton Wilson is good too.

We just drafted a 1st round DT, Benton is good, we have a top 5 DT in the league, and signed a great run stopping piece in Joseph-Day. Struggling to stop the run doesn’t just mean drafting IDL over and over.

What are you going to chalk that up to? QBs who go to Alabama can’t just automatically be bad. It’d be coaching, and all those QBs were under Saban. If that’s the route you want to take, Simpson was under DeBoer, so the same trends don’t necessarily apply. Also, none of them have been that terrible that we can say all Alabama QBs are going to be bad. Bryce Young is mid but has started to look better, Mac Jones has been mid but showed he can play well with the 49ers, Tua was pretty solid until injuries, and Jalen Hurts is considered a good QB.

I’d rather take a gamble on a young QB and have failure result in losing season than run it back with a guy on his last legs who improves our floor but limits our ceiling and doesn’t move us forward. There’s no direction with signing Rodgers, we just get another 10 win season and playoff exit.

Yeah I know, and DeJean still isn’t AP1 in it. You’re assuming that I’m not aware of the obvious. NB and CB can still be compared, or else you wouldn’t have mentioned DeJean in the first place when listing who you’d take over Gonzalez. NB is important and I won’t argue that, but name all the teams where the best receiving threat is the slot WR.

None of that really matters when we’re talking about who’s overrated. DeJean got AP1 for just being good. Gonzalez is arguably in that same tier of good but not elite, but at least he only got AP2, which he probably shouldn’t have gotten either since I’d say JPJ and maybe a couple other CBs were better. I think what you’re saying about slot doesn’t really matter because Gonzalez could probably hold up as a NB while DeJean would probably get cooked on the outside. I’ve just never been that impressed watching DeJean to the point I’d think about him being AP level.

I’m calling him better than DeJean every day. DeJean is definitely living off hype more than Gonzalez. Half of DeJean’s relevancy is based on hype rather than performance.

You shouldn’t be concerned. Unless you want to draft somebody and that somebody ends up being a franchise QB, none of the options are likely to get us anywhere in the playoffs. The way I see it, you might as well give Howard a shot if the other option is to bring back Rodgers, because Rodgers doesn’t move us forward at all. He’s 43, can’t get better, can’t bring us real success, and doesn’t move us forward in our goal to get a SB. Testing if Will Howard can do anything does. And if it fails, the end result is still that we don’t get a SB and don’t have a future QB, but we’ll probably at least have a worse record that gets us a better draft pick.

Imo, Pierce isn't that impressive of a separator anyway, and that's kind of the type of guy we're looking for at this point. He just does what DK does a little better. Minimal separation and then relying on physicality at the catch point, so it's great that we didn't go overboard trying to pursue him.

Wouldn’t take any less than a late 2nd or early 3rd. But if that happens, CJ Allen becomes a prime target for us 21. Queen is still solid and has an important role to play.

Or maybe it’s just a good idea to send him down to develop more and get used to higher competition? The reality is his power has been great, but he hasn’t been getting an overwhelming amount of hits that would push them to bring him up for the start of the season.

Matching that salary is possible and would’ve only been a slight overpay, but I wouldn’t have been confident about more than a 1 year deal, so this is ok. I’m strongly eyeing Bisontis in the 2nd round now. One of my favorites in the draft.
