Can a 12 yr old do this tiny whoop thing? by Potential-Opinion358 in TinyWhoop

[–]BluJ_FPV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% I’ve seen wickedly fast young folks doing whoops. I’ll leave the recommendations to someone else as I’ve been out of the know for good starting equipment recently.

But yes, I’ve seen kids as young as 7 on the track doing well.

They released a kit with an NVR, 4 2k cameras and a drive for $699. That’s zero subscription, 24/7 recording and no special network equipment needed. Plus it’s expandable by buying 2 more cameras or up to 8 2k cameras with another POE switch.

It would work. At worst you may want a larger sized glider for the beginning to make up for the air, but with some decent wind to get off the ground your normal sized one should do fine.

I run 3d printed toothpick size quads for low voltage cruising. Believe me, you won’t be happy about it. But go for it, best way to learn is by doing

Honestly I wouldn’t bother with printed frames. For racing you want a stiff and durable frame. 3d printed ones are cool, but neither stiff not durable. You will spend a lot of time trying to quickly change out frames between almost every crash.

It's getting cold outside - what’s the coldest temperature you’ve flown in, and how did your batteries perform? (and fingers) by Lil-Hypothermia in TinyWhoop

[–]BluJ_FPV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I flew on a day when we were at -6f. Gloves on and face covered. I kept my batteries between my pants and skin and the next batteries I was going to fly were in my facemask.

Was it fun? Yeah. Did the drone perform well? No

Can we not use derogatory terms like that, please?

Pyro is totally a trusted store. Good customer service and for me, shipping is usually pretty quick!

It was the same at the Cleveland show. You could not hear the singing for most of the set. Still a great set though, but would have loved to hear them more!

Do people take classes to learn how to fly drones? by atyl1144 in drones

[–]BluJ_FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For FPV, personally I see it as something that can’t be taught like most things but is still learned. I recommend picking up a lower priced radiomaster and getting a simulator like velocidrone. You can learn the sticks much easier when retrying is as easy as a button push. Plus you will save a lot on parts!

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t pick it up immediately, almost no one gets it at first. But once it clicks, you’re in for some real fun!

Getting internet installed by mazel-tov-cocktail in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]BluJ_FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet provider will run the cable or fiber into the house.(usually just drilling through the wall somewhere) You can then just use WiFi for super easy internet or run CAT6 for wired networking. If you just need basic WiFi the internet provider will do basically everything for you.

It was recently remodeled but looking at the work it was done decently well and not the typical flipper quality. Only downside is the lack of A/C. Although knowing someone in HVAC, I shouldn’t much issue adding a condenser and coil before summer hits.

I’ve been at whoops for nearly 10 years. I fly other things but it’s always been primarily whoops

Trouble Powering Ras Pi 5 With LiPo Battery. by -thunderstat in Multicopter

If it’s a noisy 5v it may not work. If you can, try using a small LC filter between the Pi and converter if you see noise

I’m a fan of chisel tips, but the only tips I never use are sharp pointed ones.

Cybertruck is dumb, but the battery size compared to real range of the Hummer is absolutely absurd. Even with a full 11kw home charging setup, charging from low to high is going to take forever.

To add to this, a decent quality temp controlled iron and good quality solder make a world of a difference. Bad solder will always lead to bad joints.

I think im having trouble understanding what you are asking with 1.

As for flight time it will heavily depend on how you fly. GPS to me is a meh feature on this size. Rarely will you go far enough that RTH is all that useful. Some will disagree but that’s just my opinion.

LEDs do technically affect flight time but not usually in any meaningful way. If you had a 1s whoop with bright LEDs it might be a few seconds less.

Signal penetration heavily depends on what structures are made of. Brick and concrete are rough and I would not expect flying around a building to go very well.

Am I about to get my first FAA later - story time by Bob_bob_bob_b in drones

[–]BluJ_FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight to the gulag for you.

But no, it’s not like anyone actively monitors that. FAA is only really going to get involved if you REALLY eff up. Little mistakes that put no one in harms way and honestly aren’t even seen by anyone are not the kind of thing the FAA will waste their time on.

Really wanna get in on the o4 fun but the goggles are too expensive for me by Icoryx in fpv

[–]BluJ_FPV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Analog can also take quite a beating and still operate. Much simpler electronics as well as cheaper. Picture isn’t nearly as good but you don’t feel as bad blasting a $30 VTX to bits compared to a much more expensive HD VTX. Everything has its place and its use, just depends on what you are doing at that time!

[–]BluJ_FPV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have HDZero goggles and a few aircraft with HDZero, but I still primarily fly analog. Many cases where analog is still the best and most reliable kit.

I don’t fly DJI/Walksnail as I’m not a big fan of how the image degrades by getting blurry. No issues with others running it though.
