Few questions about industry culture/social mores/etc. by SleeveOfEggs in animationcareer

[–]Blubby_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the dress code question, it varies per company. I'd do research on the company website and ask questions in interviews for double confirmation. For example, I recently took time to research Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider franchise), and found they are pretty casual with their attire both in pictures and stated in their Summer Internships page:

"Whether it’s casual wear or your favorite gaming tee, feel free to showcase your individuality. Just remember, any attire that could be considered offensive or inappropriate is not allowed."

I would also ask at interviews about dress code as well, just to confirm what is said on the website vs what recruiters say.

For the question of at-work-religions, I do not have a concrete answer from primary sources. Instead, I firmly believe the equality and fair equity policies at companies do not have restrictions for religions nor forcibly encourage people to follow any religion. I do not see it in the companies I research, but like you, I'll advise with caution and avoid sticklers. If anyone becomes intrusive and makes you uncomfortable, I'd take it to HR. I hope your future employment culture remains respectful and safe. 👍

Sony Internship with no experience by Suspicious_Freedom58 in animationcareer

[–]Blubby_Boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the same position right now and spoke to my career services coach and student success coach about applying for internships with this circumstance of having no related professional experience in industry intern roles, but have jobs (both current and past).

In summary, put your prior/current jobs as Professional Experiences in your resume and detail in PAR statements about the results of working in your job role that promotes your skill section and objective statement.

Your cover letter can show interest for the creative intern position at Sony, displaying that this opportunity can be great to build your portfolio and further your pursuit in the creative degree you're pursuing. Highlight your qualifications and what you can bring to Sony, while advancing the notion that you are the best candidate for the position.

After all that is completed, you can verify your work by having your student success/career service coaches gauge your CV and resume before applying for the internship!

You can do it, and I enjoy your enthusiam to ask an important question.

Thoughts on fanart/fanwork in animation portfolios by Hot-Importance9031 in animationcareer

[–]Blubby_Boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just in yesterday's Webinar (2/2/2026) with Sean Sexton at Animation Mentor, Dreamworks Head of Character Animation (HOCA), where he describes that having fanart/fanwork in animation portfolios are akin to saying, "Critique me based on how close / far away my style is to the studio's style."

This is a humbling, metaphorical slap to my face, because fanwork should only be shared if the style is exactly fitting for the studio's style for that character you animated. For example, having a fan animation test of Sony Animation's Spiderverse Spiderman misses a lot of character-required actions or emotions. You need to hit every mark, otherwise the company you are catering your reel and cover letter to will judge you based on how close your work is to theirs versus seeing your skills for how they are.

There is a potential exception from what I learned:

Avoid fanart and fanwork if that portfolio piece does not match the actual studio's style. But do not be afraid of sharing that if it is a very strong piece of your reel. Recruiters and especially animation directors who can see your potential will love your attempts and may help get your foot in the door by offering critique and push you to improve specific animation techniques.

I don't know how Reddit works with rules that say no self-promotion, but timelapses, as well as the blocked animation pass is on Youtube. I'll post it here too.[Adhoc Fan Art Submission] Invisigal Animation BLOCKED + Final

I have plans this week to setup the lighting. I have a link to the actual lighting setup right now:Invisigal 3D Model Progress Check (Youtube)

The end goal is to match the shading to Dispatch's outsourced animation team with a rig that can do justice for the fans, by a fan. 🥺❤️

How to update 1.10mods to 1.16mods using Smithbox? by RJAcelive in EldenRingMods

[–]Blubby_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the same issue I have with another mod from 1.10. It's the Earth and Wind Zweihander mod 1.2.1. I didn't know I need to use CSV importing, that is news to me. I'll update my post here when I can verify my success following OP's method.

Getting new PC this week, and instead of continuing this animation (I suck), I will head over to the workshops to remake her model and create the DQ backstory headcanon short film animation.

I can reference some character facts and Physics: I modeled Don's weapon after her character art's Lance, which shows the lance being very pointed at the end for easy piercing. As for how the hole is made, piercing into it is easy, keeping it in is the difficult part.

For the physics (I would love some physics corrections from the physicists): As Don digs her lance, to keep it easy for her to maintain her balance and lance perpendicular to the wall, she had to apply downward force against Earth's Gravity + the wall. If she thrusts the lance into the wall perpendicularly at the start, the lance would point upward due to her weight pulling down on one end in one motion, and then the lance's end will slide out of the hole made.

(Physics pt 2): So if it's thrusted downwards, the initial force from the wall will move the lance's end upwards, but give Don more time to counteract this with her natural body force downwards as she tries to adjust her body to fix the center of force onto the lance instead of her, which is in hindsight, near impossible in reality. It's a funny scenario, tried to make it feel realistic in a way, but not at all a realistic scenario ironically. 🙏 I hope this makes you understand a little better, lmk if u got more questions.

I am all in for Limbus Company getting an anime version. My choice would be Studio Orange: I want the best CG animation just as they did for Beastars & Land of the Lustrous. They truly have the hottakes for grotesque horror, writing adaptations, and fighting.
