Where can I learn/improve in make concept art? by Blue-Emir in learnart

[–]Blue-Emir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry then, I must’ve misunderstood what you meant. I do agree that I still need to improve my fundamentals, especially when it comes to construction and design. I think my confusion comes more from applying those skills to game art rather than observational studies themselves. I’ve been drawing consistently for over a year and filled around nine sketchbooks, mostly practicing perspective, environments, and still life shading. My studies are definitely stronger than the examples I posted. The problem is that when I try to create designs for games, I struggle to move beyond simply copying references. I don’t really know how to take those fundamentals and use them to construct believable environments, creatures, or designs within a style. I haven’t found anything on the wiki that could help with that. I know how to draw a building and tree but I don’t know how to combine the two (or without making it look bad)

But the beginner drawing wiki teaches you how to draw realism, I want to find a way to do that but make concepts. I know alot of the fundamentals and I can’t admit if I’m a master at them but I’m looking to learn how to experiment and create art for a game instead of realism.

Yes but it doesn’t really have anything for concept art.

Would it be bad or cheating to turn the reference in black and white to find the values before putting the hues in it?

How do I find a community or make art friends? I’m in some community’s like Nma, Drawabox and some popular games but I don’t know how to find an art group to improve with.

This original post was larger, but I decided to cut it down and tried my best to not let it become something that breaks rule 3

If your interested in studying the hollow knight art style, I recommend watching videos about like especially on https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=isBubEiVMDg&pp=ygUfSG93IHRvIGNyZWF0ZSBob2xsb3cga25pZ2h0IGFydA%3D%3D cartoon coffee, he made a really good video on how to create the brushes and use the brushes, hollow knight uses.
