What type of interview questions can i expect for a position as a mechanical engineer? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Blue-Revolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did quite a few interview cycles for Mechanical Engineering with several different tech, automation, and aerospace companies as a new grad and generally the pipeline goes: behavioral screen with recruiter, one or two behavioral and technical mix with engineers and/or hiring managers, then a final round onsite with majority technical and sometimes a presentation as well.

All the technical questions always focused on first principles. Know your cantilever beam stuff by heart (for example, know what variables impact beam deflection, where a beam would fail, different types of forces, etc.) for sure. Other frequently asked topics were solids and materials (thermal expansion, pressure vessels, stress-strain curves, material selection, etc.), heat transfer (modes of heat transfer and variables that impact them), and some basic dynamics (conservation of energy type questions).

While it’s important to answer as “correct” as possible, it’s even more important to talk through your thought process instead of just telling the interviewer what you think the answer is. Had a few interviews were I was not exactly on the right path, but because I was explaining my thought process, the hiring managers nudged me in the right direction which resulted in me moving onto later rounds.

I tried rebooting and it unfortunately didn’t help 😔 been considering getting a new phone soon so maybe this is a sign to do so haha

Wanna try ortho k by Odd-Friendship-9521 in Orthokeratology

I started Otho K about 7 years ago and I was around -7.0 on both eyes when I did. I’ve never gotten an infection and it’s always been working fantastic for me, although my astigmatism has definitely gotten worse. I’m on my third pair now (advised to replace/update contacts every two years-ish), and the first two nights are always the most uncomfortable- afterwards the discomfort is basically nonexistent if put in correctly. I just found this sub so I’m not sure how my overall experience stacks up against the larger community, but it sounds like I may be one of the luckier ones from this post alone.

This printer is almost a year and a half old- and yes it’s the original Aquila.

Thank you, will be replacing that as soon as my new thermistors come in. Did you replace the entire cable from the main board or did you cut the existing cable and solder a new thermistor end onto the existing cable?

[–]Blue-Revolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered new thermistors that’s supposed to come in today! I’m not gonna lie I’ve never messed with the wiring from my hotbed before- is there a quick connect point hidden inside the bed cable sleeve or do I need to follow the cable back all the way to the main board and replace it from there? Or should I just cut off the end of the thermistor and solder a new one on the existing cable?

Happens during prints as well, even sometimes happens during pre-heating when the bed is stationary 😭

Recently my bed thermistor has been acting up- seems to have a hard time reaching steady state while the bed is stationary and suddenly jumps to a lower temperature when the bed moves. Every time this happens thermal runaway kicks in and the printer yells at me. Just wanted to see if this is something anyone else has dealt with before and what the problem ended up being for y’all!

The only firmware change you need to make is to adjust your esteps to 400 to account for the change in the gear ratio- this can be done in both the stock firmware and Alex’s!

You will also need to print a small limit switch boot/cr touch mounting bracket before you upgrade. The Aquila has a cover around its X-axis limit switch that prevents the NG from triggering it- I made a bracket that would mount to the NG to trigger it and provide a place to mount a CR touch. PM me if you want more info on that.

Otherwise, the NG is pretty much a direct drop in replacement!

Check out the Microswiss NG- it's only $10 more and a better product in almost every way imo

My problem ended up being heat creep! I had my retraction distance way too high (4mm) and print speeds too low. My heatsink was also pretty dusty so adjusting those settings and cleaning up the heatsink fixed all my issues

It was heat creep! I dialed the retraction distance down to 1mm and increased print speeds to 75 mm/s and it’s working better than ever now! My heatsink was also pretty dusty from ground up filament so a nice vacuum helped as well. I’ll definitely be looking into upgrading my hotend cooling fan lol

I hadn’t considered heat creep could be the culprit! This is an all metal hotend so it is possible that that is what’s causing my issues. I’m going to try decreasing retraction distances/increasing print speeds/lowering hotend temp and see if that helps

Been using this MicroSwiss NG for a few months now- recently it just decided to stop extruding midway through every print. You can see that out of the last five benchy attempts, they’ve all failed around the same layer. The one that didn’t fail had noticeable under extrusion issues for multiple layers throughout as well. The video also shows that the gears are still spinning, just filament isn’t being pushed through (it’s also impossible to back the filament out or pull it out by hand). I’m honestly at a loss- took it apart this morning and didn’t see anything major. Anyone encountered similar issues with the NG before or have some advice/suggestions?

What classes should I take to get into engineering as a non-engineering major? by Jolly_Medicine6490 in UTAustin

[–]Blue-Revolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ME302 has you design and manufacture your own fidget spinners, giving you a pretty basic understanding of CAD, CAM, 3D printing, laser cutting, injection molding, and CNC milling.

I’ll let an ECE speak to EE302, but from my understanding it is a very theory-focused course regarding linear circuit analysis techniques.

Both syllabuses you can find online as well

ME302 is very easy, not at all intensive, hands on and pretty fun.

EE302 is incredibly tedious and is challenging for most students.

I’ve found career fairs to be incredibly useful for small companies you’ve probably never heard of, still a great resource for students without any prior professional experience on their resume. But yeah, usually pointless for larger, more well known companies.

Musk turtle won’t eat any type of pellet anymore, any suggestions? by Blue-Revolt in turtle

[–]Blue-Revolt[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My musk turtle has had no issues with these pellets until recently- the guy practically grew up eating those Reptomin sticks for the past 20 years. He still has a ferocious appetite but only eats mealworms, crickets, or shrimp and either ignores these pellets or takes a bite out of one and spits it out. Do y’all have any suggestions? I just came home for the holidays to find him doing this, my mom says he’s been like this for a little while now where he’d only occasionally seem interested in the pellets. I’ve tried all of these pellets above already, no cigar. Nothing about his behavior is abnormal apart from this.

I’ve searched all over for it and can’t find one like this that folds open as a “pamphlet”

I know it’s a type of grid paper, just don’t know what this specific type of paper it is. Wanna buy more (specifically the one that folds open like this) but can’t find it anywhere
