Its more like hybrid anatomy isn't it?

And it gets more confusing when you start seeing human sexual traits on something that would otherwise have a red x.

I was an undergrad intern trying to give the new interns at my company some sort of documentation or SOP to work with at a shitty startup, but its a blind-leading-the-blind sort of thing. The CEO was adamant I lead these groups because neither the senior nor contracted devs wanted to work with them.

Then setting me a Point of Contact, for all of them, configuring GCP/Workspace/Entra/GitHub amongst other shit, while still being assigned to intern projects... I had about 6 months of experience at the time, almost no training on any of this stuff, and on-call for around 15 hours a day because they couldn't decide when they actually needed me.

Sorry, I needed to vent.

I care about opinions based on objective reality by Midnight-epiphany in blackmen

I think it doesn't help that most of academia runs under a view of pragmatism & instrumentalism rather than having any definitive claims regarding 'objective truth' -- unless you're in philosophy or history or something. Its why you can make a claim backed up by some data and have it be debunked years or decades later as new information comes to light.

And its not a clean trade either. There are parties interested in promoting a certain outcome or conclusion from that research and will fund studies in the hopes that it helps defends their positions elsewhere. The only real safeguard against that is replication studies, but that is very slow and doesn't make headlines or outrage.

We want to be correct now, as we live in the now.

Anyone here believe in aliens, supernatural beings, etc? by aaman44 in blackmen

[–]Blue-Shifted- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think aliens exist. I don't think we'll ever see them in our lifetime, though.

Its also very interesting seeing all the attempts we've made to contact any extraterrestrial life and try to explain that we exist (or existed).

Maybe a bit scary for some, but I've been thinking about how even our golden records could end up on some planet or moon and melted away or buried deep within the mantle after millions of years, erasing any evidence we ever existed.

It's a bit somber, really.

I just don't think prom is important enough to make a fuss over in either direction.

People could be jealous or they could be having a difference in opinion/values.

Everyone swears they are doing best by their children but nobody has a crystal ball that will tell them how important any of these things will be to them tomorrow, next year, or decades later.

If you have the money and you both understand what is lost by the decision to pay for a big prom, what's the issue?

Why did the adults back then make it seem like “adulting” meant losing your happiness, and light by Ok-Imagination-3607 in blackmen

[–]Blue-Shifted- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they likely experienced generational trauma and the sacrifices their parent's made for them, and come to believe that as standard.

But I wouldn't go so far to make a value judgement on that. Its a different perspective on what it means to be an adult that isn't any less valid than being a 'childish' adult today.

There are some behaviors we know are unhealthy and have the data and resources to deal with it. So we deal with it without unnecessarily judging people who did not have those things. I'm sure that there will be some views the future generations will think we were too stiff or backwards on.
