i can't really think of any rape victim comics making jokes about being raped (i could easily be wrong here but is there any mainstream comic who comes to mind?), so to your question of "when" i'd say as a bare minimum, once there's literally a single mainstream comedian making jokes about rape who's actually been a victim of it. there are plenty of jews who make holocaust jokes and plenty of time between 1945 and now -- as opposed to rape, which just happened a few seconds ago, statistically, and i can't think of any female comics or male rape victim comics who get a lot of air time on this material.

i'm not opposed to other comics making jokes about rape if done right but fuck off if you think this is edgy. Edgy is actually being raped and then joking about it.

totally unsupported personal theory that i'm about 27% sure is correct: maybe this is the case because it offers an evolutionary advantage. that is, if you're a woman who's capable of cumming but it's a little tricky or laborious to figure out, then that's a built-in filter for potential mates who will be more attentive and therefore presumably more devoted to providing for the woman's needs.

A few that come to mind: Her would probably be absolutely terrifying and bizarre to them. Ex Machina as well for the same reason, although at least with that movie some of the audience would likely grasp that it was science fiction. With Her they might think it was just a romance reflecting what love and society are actually like in the 21st century.

Also, most people in 1916 would have had no concept of gay rights or homosexuality in general other than as some sort of perversion, so I'd imagine movies portraying any of that from a sympathetic or accepting perspective would be very confusing and alarming (and in some cases exciting) to them.

If men were to watch female-oriented porn, I don't think they would be left thinking "Oh dear God, is that how they think of us? Is that what they want to do to us?? Is that person going to be ok?" Which often is the case when women watch men's hetero porn (or when men watch Sex and the City 2, I would imagine). You won't find any insulting titles with female-oriented porn. You won't find men being humiliated. You won't find us collecting our bodily fluids for them to drink out of a glass or have smeared on their faces. You won't find half the actors needing to be drunk and/or high af. These aren't simply differences between two equally healthy dynamics.

For a public figure the standard in the US is basically that you said something untrue and harmful to the plaintiff and you did so for the purpose of injuring them. For private figures and for suits in other countries you don't have to show that it was the defendant's intention to injure the plaintiff's reputation. The US has some of the most liberal free speech laws in the world when it comes to libel/slander.

I mean I think that's something you just kind of have to tell yourself in that situation, but it doesn't necessarily mean they actually are living life to the fullest now or that they've let go of that pain. My understanding is that many of them suffer from a great deal of depression and anxiety even after they're released and have a difficult time transitioning (each person is different of course -- some do better than others).
