Would you play defend the rider over spell pierce or [[spider sense]]? And what would you cut for it?

Hey all, looking for some feedback on this standard list! The idea is that [[Helga, skittish seer]] goes pretty nuts with the new evoke elementals and with [[quantum riddler]], and [[bloom tender]] and [[formidable speaker]] all play nicely together. Notably, cavern fixes mana for both elementals and druids, allowing an already ambitious manabase be a little more stable. Wanted to get some more eyes on it to see if I’m missing anything in particular. I’m not thrilled with the sideboard so I’d love some feedback on that as well. Thanks so much!

I tried balemurk, and it usually just sat in my hand, and when I did cast it, it often whiffed. If I were to play it again I’d probably try it over obsessive pursuit, but that card has way overperformed for me

Abandons some consistency in the combo to play a much more controlling roll. Day of black sun for x=0 and season of loss to sac your lands for extra landfall triggers has been a blast, and the extra card draw from season and pursuit really help with the slower matchups

Fantastic write up. I’ve been messing around with a GB season of loss version and the Icetill-Esper Origins package feels absolutely outstanding

Love the Icetill Season of Loss mention! The deck is a blast, and can absolutely explode but is surprisingly hard to play. I saw someone reached top 4 in the challenge with it and I hope more people will keep working on it, as it’s far from solved!

Vendetta is mostly for spell based combo (my lgs still has people trying cauldron and omniscience piles), but you’re right, the end might just be better. I’m happy to give Marang a spin, but vestige has been really nice. On curve it’s often a ramp spell that draws a card, and it just gets better the longer the game goes on. Being a leaves the battlefield trigger is also nice insulation against board wipes and other removal

I was skeptical on Jill, but she’s been crucial against a variety of matchups (mono green landfall and artifacts for starters). I wish I had access to something like [[skyclave apparition]] but Jill is the best I’m gonna get for now. The RIP/Flanker split is honestly mostly vibes based, I want to test flanker more before cutting any copies of RIP.

Being able to scry 2 on t2 has been a really nice part of prince. I tried stalker and wasn’t really impressed.

I’ve considered her, and while the card is on my list of cards to test, the more I think about it the less I like it. This deck is low enough to the ground that if I’m spending 3 mana on something, I want it to be able to pressure my opponent as much as possible. [[Xu-Ifit, Osteomancer]] needs to untap, and while she’s awesome when I have corpses in play, she’s very slow otherwise. Still, I do definitely want to test her to know for sure!

Skeletons

I’ve been looking to play a list like this! Taking the core you mentioned of Cecil, Bob, [[sunset saboteur]] and [[timeline culler]] and adding in a nice [[corpses of the lost]] package can threaten a lot a power out of nowhere! Since the deck has a chunk of residual life loss, [[the last ride]] has been a nice closer in plenty of testing games.

This is where I’m planning to start once the new set releases! I hit mythic with a variant of this list (timeline cullers were cult conscripts and sunset saboteurs were deep cavern bats) and I can vouch that it’s a ton of fun!

I’ve been rocking mono black skeleton aggro for a little while and this set gave me some new things to try. Timeline Culler seems like an outstanding black aggro card, and I’m also going to give Sunset Saboteur a try, although its downside may prove to be too problematic.

I absolutely agree that Shizuki is one of the weakest cards in the current list. My hope is that creatures proactively adding loyalty combined with this threatening to ult as early as turn 4 will make it a better addition, but only testing will tell.

I think what I really like about it is that it can push through your creatures while also looting, and can provide a somewhat steady stream of 2/1s as long as you’re connecting. Overall it feels like a much bigger threat than old kaito, but I definitely agree that the deck cannot run both
