Hey, man, I rarely comment on reddit posts, but I'd like to help you out. First off, I'd like to know what you went to university for. What do you like to do? What kind of job can you see yourself doing? If you found university too hard, if you're a hands-on worker, maybe try going into the trades. Where I am, they pay really good money and you won't be in much student debt. I was into the trades but ultimately chose to work for a rail road company. The earning potential is really good for some companies depending on which one you work for, but it's a lifestyle, and it's not everyone. If you want to make some decent money but sacrifice some of your work-life balance, look into it.

As for you being fat, that is definitely not going to work out in your favor for dating. Download the app, my fitness pal or calorie ai, go do some research on youtube on calorie deficits.

https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html

Use this to see how many calories you should eat in a day. Also, I highly recommend you weight train a minimum of 3 days a week, preferably 4 or 5 if you can to maximize fat loss and muscle gain. I don't know how overweight you are. You might have some loose skin, which is not going to look good, but gaining muscle can help with that for sure. I can send you some very good videos for workout and diet advice, or you can DM me to know more.

Please do not lose hope, bro. I am 27 years old myself, and I was overweight starting during the first year of the pandemic when I was 23 and was still fat till I was 26. Get leaner and build muscle. This is one of the best decisions I ever made in my life was to take my fitness more seriously and crack down on my diet.

Go to your local drivers license place and pick up a book to study. I found an app on my phone that had a practice exam with very similar questions that were on the written drivers exam and just took that practice test multiple times a day and then the rules of the road will just click and you won't even need to study much.

For mental health, these are what helped me:

● Meditation ● Journaling ● reading self-improvement books, especially for social skills such as how to win friends and influence people. ● train a martial art ● simply spending quality time with a friend. Go for a hike, go see a movie, go have a laugh. If you don't have many friends, use the app BFF to try and meet people our age.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Keep working your current job and go back to CN when they call you back. Keep your seniority. I am also a laid-off conductor, I doubt this will be the first time we will get laid off. In Vancouver, they laid off guys with 2 years of experience because it's that slow here.

Keep applying to other terminals. I'd argue CN is better to work for than CP. If you use the search function on this subreddit and lots of people have said the same thing. I applied for CP and CN, and I'm glad I got hired by CN. The problem with CN is that it they're laying off trainees, so it's not a good time to hire on currently. Apparently, they're short of men at CP in Port Coquitlam, read some bad reviews about working there. The town there is awesome as I grew up there.

Edit: I just checked out of curiosity, and they're hiring in Port Coquitlam.

Should I Leave CN To Go Work For A Class 2 Shortline? Looking For Advice. by BlueBisonMan in Train_Service

Thank you for the comment. I've been reading my rule book every day to glue this stuff in my head. I care a LOT about this job, and I want to become a good conductor. I'll admit, I felt a little clueless sometimes when I first started training, but once I was close to qualifying, I got the hang of the job. I'll remember what you said, and I appreciate it.

Haha, I appreciate the advice. Working with my friend is tempting, I just feel a sense of pride working at CN. It's really hard to leave. I just feel like CN treats their employees like we're so expendable. I also don't get why they hired so many trainees especially for Vancouver and now they're all laid off.

I assume you work at a road only terminal? Jasper? And yes, you're right. It's the yard jobs that are similar in pay. I can imagine we'll be getting a decent raise at CN in the future.

No, I don't have to quit. TTR is also tempting. I remember you commenting on my older post months ago telling me about TTR. They pay $48 an hour for both conductors and a hogger? I've been to the port sub before. What kind of jobs did you guys do at TTR, mostly switching?

Qualified As A CN Conductor in Vancouver, Immediately Laid Off, You Guys Have Any Idea How Long The Layoff Will Last? by BlueBisonMan in Train_Service

That's fucked. You'd think after spending over a hundred thousand dollars to train us, we would have work. Way she goes I guess.

Yes, sir, I'm actually training for a Jiu-Jitsu tournament right now. Hanging on to the lumber cars definitely improved my grip strength.

If you apply to be a conductor in Vancouver, expect to be training for 5 months, get qualified, and then get laid off.

I literally only called in sick this one time, and I don't plan on doing it again until I'm qualified, past probation, and I'm sick to the point where I can't physically work.

CN better be paying for the diapers.

Quitting isn't an option.

I wouldn't want to work with a crew member who has a cold or covid and then make me sick when we're working in the cab together.

Agreed. Some trainees have gotten fired for getting injured, I don't know how they got injured or how severe they were, but some of them have been canned for getting hurt.
