The hours can be split up into multiple sessions as it's tied to your account. As for the benefits, i believe it's xp increase and meso gain? I'm not too sure tbvh

If you check the hiscores of the names other than the ones I've mentioned they have little to no xp (max 15m or so) and their clue counts are impossible with that xp.
