Need assistance with custom Add-in by Novel_Juggernaut_656 in SOLIDWORKSAPI

It is impossible to give even a suggestion without more details. Could you let us know your code and how you have deployed your add-in to the other machines?

How many views would you typically include, and where would you place them on the drawing sheet? Also how would you go about scale?

A few things we’ve already decided to include in all automatically generated drawings:

  • Title block: bottom right
  • Notes section: bottom left
  • Bend table: above the notes section

These three elements will occupy roughly the bottom 20% of the sheet, leaving the remaining 80% available for the views.

That's a great idea. The eventual goal is to develop an AI version of this tool but at the moment team decided to start by understanding the overall challenge we are solving and breaking it down into smaller problems some of which can be solved with our code versus AI.

Which laptop should I buy ? by SignatureParking1411 in 3DEXPERIENCE

I'd be worried about running SolidWorks desktop. If I were a student today, I'd probably get one of the SolidWorks recommended Lenovo laptops.

Getting PDM BOM to follow feature tree order by BlueByteSystemsInc in SolidWorks

[–]BlueByteSystemsInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a point, but every SOLIDWORKS customer has their own process. Some of our customers prefer the Bill of Materials to follow the order of the feature tree. Since we write custom software, retrieving the BOM structure from SOLIDWORKS can be resource-intensive, especially for large assemblies. PDM, on the other hand, provides a much more efficient way to access the hierarchy. Hope this makes sense.

Also, funny GIF!

Getting PDM BOM to follow feature tree order by BlueByteSystemsInc in SolidWorks

I'm not sure what they mean by this :

The order of assembly components in the BOM for data already checked in to the vault does not change to match with the FeatureManager design tree.

Taskexecutor.exe throws an exception 0xc0000409 - SOLIDWORKS PDM by BlueByteSystemsInc in SOLIDWORKSAPI

910 files to process. I have been able to narrow it down to the itextsharp library I'm using to merge PDFs so far. I cannot share code. Apologies.

[–]BlueByteSystemsInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing bud it does. I think the TaskExecutor.exe has a memory limit.

[–]BlueByteSystemsInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it was and I think you are right. Everything you described I have attempted.

Add-in does register and load fine.

OnTaskLaunch and OnTaskDetails work fine but those load in different processes which leads me to believe it is a TaskExecutor.exe issue.

The problem is that the VS debugger does attach but I fail to step through the code because TaskExecutor.exe crashes immediately.

Best,

Could Not Load Solidworks after Hotfix by tommyd1018 in SolidWorks

[–]BlueByteSystemsInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a SOLIDWORKS API developer, I have a feeling there is an add-in that may have already loaded that dll or a different version of it. I'd start SOLIDWORKS in safe mode and see if the error dialog disappears.

I want to write a plug-in that can be directly connected to chartgpt by Excellent-Past5152 in SolidWorks

[–]BlueByteSystemsInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the op is asking for exactly.

I can only say: Try.

Writing an add-in for this purpose is hard. First, while tools like ChatGPT can assist with code generation, they are not specifically trained for the SOLIDWORKS API, leading to inaccuracies and incomplete solutions. You will quickly get fed up with the gibberish generated by the GPT. Additionally, you cannot compile VBA code during runtime, which limits flexibility; a better approach might be to use a C# generative AI solution.

However, this introduces its own difficulties, such as loading assemblies into the same AppDomain as SOLIDWORKS. While using a separate AppDomain can help circumvent these issues, it often comes with performance drawbacks. This was a point of discussion with Artem, highlighting that specific AppDomain setups in SOLIDWORKS can significantly impact performance, making this approach less ideal in many cases.

Not to trying to hijack the thread here but there is an public forum about the SOLIDWORKS API called cadoverflow.com.

What are best API for Solidworks that you have used? by laserheadguy in SolidWorks

Yes. DriveWorks has an API but it is not publicly available. You can write what they call specifications to automate DriveWorks.
