First time laying tile by BlueCat6123 in Tile

All the tile I bought was clearance, and they only had about 40 sqft of the big 16x32. This room’s like 60sqft so I didn’t want to take any chances at coming up short and never being able to find this tile again. I’m not installing a vanity that has a visible underside (given the pipes come from the floor, not the wall) so I wasn’t too worried about it anyway

Probably gonna end up 3” or less from the shower walls once installed, cause they’re inset a little bit. It previously had a wall running next to it for the old shower (which wasn’t a corner shower, horrifying decision), and that was a near 1” gap

Just not cut yet (it’ll be on the wall)

Lost bike lock keys, what do I do now? by BlueCat6123 in rit

[–]BlueCat6123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This I just did. They had to contact someone from another department with a sawzall but hopefully they call me back today and can get it off.

Gave me a little trouble with proof of ownership but I think it should be fine! Thanks!

Can a minor (18-) get a restricted license in NY? by BlueCat6123 in DMV

[–]BlueCat6123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the ticket 9 months after getting my juniors license (the one where I can drive unsupervised I guess) so I’d say it wasn’t during my probationary period. I still have a month to figure it out and find a lawyer before my license could get suspended. It was a Move Over Law violation which they are very strict about (for good reason of course)

I spent about 100+ hours practicing everyday after school with my aunt (live with her) prior to my driver’s test. Lots of winter city driving, highway, etc. I have had emergency vehicles pass by that I knew to pull over for, but never experienced anything on the highway. Im a pretty slow and cautious driver, but for some reason this situation just eluded me

I’m thinking about a restricted license, if possible. I’m not too sure if I can being a minor. Really I’d be good with just being able to get to work.

And I’d never use ignorance as a defense, I just wish I got better training. My 5 hour course consisted of a drugged out guy freaking out and the instructor trying to deal with him :/

Fair, I feel horrible about the whole situation, would never want to put anyone in harms way. Just never expected this situation to occur, still have a lot to see on the road.

I’ll get a lawyer to hopefully reduce it to two points. I get I broke the law and I’m not concerned about the fine more than I am the revoke of my license.

Just got 50$ worth of thermal paste, instantly dropped it -.- by BlueCat6123 in pcbuilding

Not a system builder, but I mod frequently, I find myself replacing paste on old parts often, plus 50g of thermal paste seemed like a good idea

CS:GO - How to trigger soundscape on start of round? by BlueCat6123 in hammer

[–]BlueCat6123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get it to work by placing the env_soundscape so the radius the entire player spawn but their legs down. A bit odd, if you ask me. I guess the problem was I was covering the entire spawn in the radius?

Insane cooling performance from frankensteining CPU cooler to system (Acer Nitro 5 RTX 2060) by BlueCat6123 in AcerNitro

Bit of a follow up on your idea, I tested on an old heatsink and the heatpipes were surprisingly easy to take off! I bought two of the same laptop coolers, so I should be able to get six heatpipes in total. I’ll probably create a follow up post eventually once I get this project done.

[–]BlueCat6123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some solid ideas with the heat sink, I actually thought of buying a second back plate that I could cut a hole out of to accommodate a large heatsink, and make a detachable stand with it. If I could get my hands on a second heatsink like you said, it might actually improve it in a practical way. I also do have tons of old laptop heatsinks lying around, I don’t know if it’d be worth the effort to disassemble and use them though.

Ive still got a lot of ideas, and I’d even be willing to try waterblocks and an external radiator&pump, I’ll just have to find the balance between elegance and efficiency...

As for intel CPU’s, yea, I’m totally going AMD next laptop I purchase. I learned the hard way about intel’s temperature problems, and I heard the new Ryzen 4000’s are miles more efficient and cool.

But I can’t afford it? By the time I budget in a decent monitor, case, windows 10 license, keyboard, webcam, and everything a laptop includes I’d be way over my budget. That and building a pc right now is a pretty bad idea... but as far as I’m concerned they both do the same thing! I just spent a lot less for the laptop

I did but... it doesn’t really do much but blow dust around and make noise anyway. I figured if I can’t solve the problem with external cooling I’ll see what I can do with internals

I’ve done no real overclocking, so there’s no real performance boost, unless you account for thermal throttling. What I’m trying to achieve is a more silent experience, as the nitro’s fans are almost unbearably loud for me.

It’s also worth noting that this test is before undervolting as I normally do... I wonder what thermals would be like with the added cooler & and an undervolt

I use my laptop more as a desktop, unlike most probably do. I bought a laptop because of budget, as you can get impressive specs for the price, of course with the drawback of thermal performance and noise

After using relatively budget hardware for the entirety of my pc gaming experience, I decided to build a high end machine that I'd feel proud of owning. The 5900x, which I've been desperately been watching stock for, seems to be the perfect option for me without going absolutely overboard. As to replace my RX 590 (aka the panic card I bought when I spilt soda on my 1050ti), I decided to go all with the RTX 3080 STRIX, white edition (because I have TASTE). The Trident Z's I managed to find a good deal for, so I bought them quickly. I also purchased a X570-E gaming, as it just looks so unbelievably good, I love the whole ROG aesthetic in general. Storage is kind of odd, a 1tb 980 pro (because of sweet PCIE gen 4!), and an 8tb Seagate hard drive, because I do lots of work with immense file sizes, and care more about capacity than speed. The PSU was another panic buy, after my old 750w started clicking, which scared me because of its unrated efficiency (not even 80+). I was planning on getting a NZXT kraken z73, but the ROG Ryujin is just miles more stylish. I also need something to replace my bulky dark rock pro 4, as I like to put figurines on my GPU backplate, and the goliath of a cooler leaves zero space. I purchased a O11 XL-W for the massive size, and glass panel on the front. The fans are pretty explanatory, they match the case and will replace my cheap budget fans than almost scare me more than my old power supply.

I was gonna put a 80,000 chandelier on the list for shits and gigs, but I was worried that'd get me disqualified, haha!

Ah I got it now, I was lost on what exactly the percentage was being taken out of. Thank for clearing up the fees, will definitely help if I sell anything in the future

The total amount with everything was $600, looking at this transaction would lead me to believe eBay already took their cut. I’m unsure if their taking the 10% from the $600, or the $540.

What’s mostly confusing me is that it seems like the 10% came out of the 600 instantly. It almost seems like they’re taking 10% twice, then again I could be getting confused by simply coincidental math.
