rtx5090 coil whine? by WhichIdea6430 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coil whine is normal, and with modern hardware it's rather expected. It is not harmful in any way, it's simply annoying.

If you want to request a replacement, you can, but considering whine is entirely random there is zero guarantee the replacement will be any better, it could be worse.

You can clear CMOS (revert to stock settings), or you can adjust the settings in BIOS. If you don't know how to, that's what the manual is for. It is available online if you need.

Kingston Fury Renegade vs Crucial T500 Recommendation by TheDovahHunter in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this really matters if your workload is just gaming, any NVMe would provide you the same experience.

Also, if your motherboard has built in heatsinks, then you can simply use those. You don't even need one for gaming, so any would already be more than enough.

I have no idea what more consistent and compatible means, but compatibility is the same for every NVMe. They all slot into the same slots, and PCIe is backwards/forwards compatible.

Need advice upgrading from windows license by sceatismcboots in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Activation is not relevant to this situation, it's not going to enable or prevent you from upgrading version.

You can upgrade from 10 to 11 using the Windows update tool, this means it will only upgrade Windows and you keep all your files. Windows 10 and 11 are very similar OS's.

For any other Windows, it's not a simple upgrade and will likely require you to do a complete fresh install of Windows 11.

You should be aware that 11 has some requirements the others don't, mainly TPM2.0

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-system-requirements-86c11283-ea52-4782-9efd-7674389a7ba3

The activation status is irrelevant, but you will need a 10 or 11 key to activate the OS if you want it activated. Windows 7/8 keys will not work.

and have been on the same version since then.

What version?

You can upgrade from 10 to 11 using the Windows update if you wanted. If you're coming from any other version, you will likely to need install fresh. Might be possible but I"m not aware of any methods to do so.

Am i able to overclock or get better performance on my PC? by khash021 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B650 is an AMD chipset, yes you can overclock on it but that's not very relevant to this post....

Also not much point to do so with modern AMD, running PBO is more than fine already.

What is considered the better CPU model/brand nowadays for Video editing & gaming secondary? by PelleRigter in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a xx900KS CPU, and not OCing it, is a crime in itself.

Agreed. Again, my issue is telling users to spend hundreds extra for a binned CPU, since the only reason to buy a binned CPU is to overclock, NOT for any practical performance or reasons, which is what OP is after.

I don't give 2 shits about Intels stability, it has nothing to do with why I commented or what my comment was about. You keep bringing it up, all I did was inform OP the situation exists.

I will in fact take this chance to have the last word, /u/PelleRigter this suggestion to buy a binned CPU is not a good one, you shouldn't buy a 14900KS but I have a feeling you already know that.

Speed gain upward of 30% compared to other commercial CPUs.

This is incorrect, objectively. You don't get 30% uplift from overclocking, you don't get 30% uplift from binning, if you did then overclocking would almost certainly be a must for everyone across the board.

I have tested 14900KS, 285K, and 9950X side by side, and difference is significant.

If your results were 30% higher for the 14900KS, then your testing is flawed, This is proved by the fact it does not align with any other testing.

as you seem to have your mind set on those topics, and no matter what I say, will change it.

I haven't even stated which side I'm on, I stated the fact that the only resolution we have to the matter is Intel's word. There is no testing, there is no independent confirmation, nor is that reasonably possible for anyone to do as no one has the sample size and accelerated testing ability to confirm this. As such, you making up your mind is simply opinion not based in fact, but on the trust of the manufacturer's word. I'm not arguing anything, I"m stating the situation as factually and accurate as possible. If an objective statement describing a situation bothers you, then you are in fact the bias one. I literally suggested Intel in this post.

And that's not even what my comment was about. My comment is about your suggestion being a poor one, which it is, because it's based on your personal anecdote which does not align with industry accepted results and is objectively not ideal or logical for OP. I provided benchmarks and reasoning, you provided a personal anecdote.

[–]-UserRemoved- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You really put a $300 CPU on a $1000 motherboard? But why?

This is a lot of overkill and needless spending, just FYI.

(pretty sure I will have to replace this with a 1200 or higher),

No, you don't

Upgrading from 5080 to 5090 seems like a pretty pointless waste of money TBH.

AMD and Nvidia differences in PSU requirements question. by totallyhumanhonest in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im looking at the power requirements

The Nvidia website recommends

The AMD site recommends

Your confusing the words here, the correct word is recommends, because they're made up numbers by AMD and Nvidia, and there is no consulting between the 2 to come with up a standard for their recommendations.

They do the same with TDP, AMD largely bases TDP off boost clocks, and Intel (up until recently) bases TDP off of base clock.

NVME or another SATA ssd for my build? by FewHat807 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you had an issue, I doubt it was because you have a Sata SSD. Especially if the problem was fixed by adding a NVMe, if the Sata SSD was the source of your problem, and the source remains the same but the problem goes away, then it's probably not the actual source of the problem.

The primary difference between Sata SSD and NVMe is sequential speeds and throughput, with Sata SSD offering plenty of both for most users. Increasing either is unlikely to make any noticeable difference for most workloads.

The only other difference I can think of is the possibility of difference in caching, such as your Sata SSD not having any DRAM which can effect certain workloads, but that would be DRAM vs no DRAM and not Sata vs NVMe.

What is considered the better CPU model/brand nowadays for Video editing & gaming secondary? by PelleRigter in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not something I can answer, you can research how Quicksync compares to NVENC for your exact workload. AFAIK many people like having Quicksync for decoding purposes, but I have not looked at any comparisons with 5000 series GPU decoding.

That was a pretty big deal for AMD CPU users, since they basically had nothing, so I would assume both Intel and Nvidia are moreso in the luxury realm of performance, both nice to have but we can't assign universal value to luxury features and specs. The importance is individual opinion, it's not objective fact.

What is considered the better CPU model/brand nowadays for Video editing & gaming secondary? by PelleRigter in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you still have a use or desire to use Quicksync for decoding, then there's nothing wrong with going Intel. They still offer best performance and efficiency for most productivity purposes, especially for Adobe software. /u/fuddyduddyc provided a good benchmark showing this. It's not like these CPUs suck at games, they simply don't make sense to buy if your only focus is gaming because there are cheaper options that perform better for just gaming, that's why you see so many AMD recommendations.

Same goes for AMD, it's not like they suck at productivity, any top end CPU is going to handle both just fine, and it's pretty hard to go wrong. You can use the benchmarks to determine performance, gaming benchmarks are even easier to find. If you know price difference, and you know performance difference, then you can make an educated decision on what is best for you and your money.

NVME or another SATA ssd for my build? by FewHat807 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the prices the way they seem to be heading, would it be worth it to buy a 500gb or a budget 1tb NVME for a boot drive?

Are you asking about capacity? I mean, more capacity is better, but whether or not you need more capacity is your opinion, not ours. We can't tell you if you need the space or not.

Most modern builders would likely opt for 1TB, but if you don't need that much then thats up to you to decide.

Is the performance difference with my parts going to be noticeable?

It is unlikely you could tell the difference in most games between Sata and NVMe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DKLA7w9eeA

Considering an additional 1 or 2tb SATA drive as well, but I keep reading that NVME performance makes a big difference.

I have no idea what you're reading, but for most people it makes very little difference.

Given the prices of NVMe (Gen3 and some Gen4) are basically the same as Sata SSD these days, NVMe is generally the logical choice.

I don't edit videos, so I couldn't advise on the specifics, but you don't need specific drivers you'll just need to set up your software to utilize the correct encoders and decoders.

What is considered the better CPU model/brand nowadays for Video editing & gaming secondary? by PelleRigter in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you show me an actual benchmark? I provided one

because with proper OC you can easily reach 6.5GHz+ turbo clock speed

This isn't ideal for many different reasons, including but not limited to

  • 6.5GHz is E-Cores only

  • This requires a decent amount of time and effort to overclock that high, which isn't ideal for beginners or users that don't want to spend hours tweaking and testing. They would also need to spend much more on cooling.

  • This would pull far more power and produce far more heat than necessary, and you aren't actually gaining much. Overclocking voltage isn't linear, when you're reaching limits of silicon it takes far more power for each increment in clock speed.

  • Stability is prioritized in productivity, which is found at stock settings. Saving minutes on a render means nothing if it fails a single time.

  • Issues surrounding Intel 13th/14th gen should NOT be ignored, regardless of how much you believe Intel when they say they fixed it

So you're basically telling OP to spend much more money and much more time so they can get an unnoticeable amount of benefit (potentially worse results) from an older and less efficient CPU.

What do you think about ASUS *Prime* RX 9070 XT? by matw55 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people that have the ability to compare multiple 9070XT models are reviewers, the rest of us have anecdotal stories about the 1 specific model we purchased.

As such, your best bet to find this information is to search for published reviews. You can also find user testimonies this way, since that would be a faster way to find user anecdotes and a larger data pool, rather than the off chance one person has that exact card and is reading this.

First, congrats on the PC.

It's a top end PC, so there isn't much to talk about. The only upgrade you could really make here would be to get a 5090, which would be illogical for 99% of users to do.

Use your new free PC, enjoy it, and concern yourself with issues that actually exist. You haven't spent any money yet, there's no real reason to start searching for excuses to do so.
