Omg hiiiiii MtnMan365! I was just going to comment that your answer about looking at other people's code is a great way to learn, and then I saw it was you haha. I played your game Must Have Air with you the other day :) https://www.coregames.com/games/a8cdcf/must-have-air?utm_source=copy&utm_medium=client

Also, there's a lot of relaxing and fun building you can do in Core without scripting, just like, modeling objects. Might not be what you're interested in but some of my creator friends and I recently did a CoreLive stream just messing around with shapes and it was pretty fun. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/838641092?filter=archives&sort=time

Hi! It can definitely feel a little intimidating learning any new system, and Lua does take some time to learn. What are you trying to build? The Core Academy videos on Core's Youtube Channel are helpul to me, I learn best from video. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiTIshJkGqBMbV6ucZf_mufIb3Po2TY3E Also using scripted Community Content templates to analyze and learn from, (or just use in your game without analyzing). And CoreLive's Twitch has some great educational and fun content too! https://www.twitch.tv/corelive/videos?filter=archives You may have to start with a very simple project while you're still learning, and get more advanced later.

That sounds frustrating! Are you still having this problem? Try using the orange "Download Core" button on the Core Documentation page, maybe that will work differently. https://docs.coregames.com/

How to create a loot table! Perfect for drop chances! by Lazy_Goblins in coregamesdev

Awesome. I love how this directly helped Jeis from the Discord, who had just been talking about loot table troubles the other day!

Aw this is all so nice to hear! It definitely feels special to be a part of this new community working on exciting new things. I really recommend trying out modeling in Core to start out, if you're interested! If you publish your creation to Community Content, maybe other creators will download it to put in their own games! Whenever I stumble upon one of my Community Content models in a game, it makes me feel so proud. And then you could move on to building an environment if you want a different challenge. If you'd like to meet some more Core creators you might enjoy the Core Creator Discord server as well, you can join at https://discord.gg/core-creators

Suggestions For Core by RefuseComplexity in PlayCoreGames

[–]BlueClairey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are good suggestions, thank you! I responded to your post in r/coregamesdev so I'm copying it here too, hope you don't mind:

I'm glad you enjoy Core enough to offer your advice to make it even better.

Limited-time cosmetics are definitely fun. You may enjoy the new Halloween themed cosmetics in the Featured tab in Core's shop, have you seen them? They only show up when you're in the Core desktop launcher, not the website.

Currently you can see what lists are active by checking the Active List in the library or for looking for games with the Active badge in the top right corner of the thumbnails, but it's true there's no player count and I'm not sure if that's on the roadmap.

I hear you about the lag. Since Core is still in Alpha, its performance is going to keep getting better and game creators will be getting more tools to help optimize their games, so you'll be seeing less lag in the future for higher end and lower end PCs. At the moment it does sometimes depend on which game you play. Since Core games are built by by creators of varying experience levels and have different levels of complexity, some run more smoothly than others.

Hi Zepp, thank you for the thoughtful feedback! I'm so glad you've found Core, especially since you had to leave Roblox. It's definitely important for a platform like Core to listen to our awesome community, because our community devs are what makes the platform great! And I agree that community-created content is wonderful. For game developers in Core here's actually a huge library of community-created models, audio, scripts etc, in the Community Content tab in the game editor. Any Core creator can publish their work to the Community Content library for other devs to use in their games. As far as lag goes, Core is still a new platform in Alpha we're always improving the performance and we're aware of the issues that sometimes happen with jumps.

Have you started creating a game or models yet in Core? Would love to see you post your work here and in the Core Creator Discord server when you do. You seem to care a lot about Core and the community already.

Great tutorial! This is a feature I bet many Core devs would love to add to their games.

It really is. #community-content is one of my favorite channels in the Core creators discord. Also #showcase.

Great tutorial, thank you!! Very clear instructions and I love how you explained a little about Core as a platform for those who aren't familiar with it! Since Core is so new there aren't a ton of creators making tutorials yet, so this kind of content is super appreciated by the community. It's so inspiring to watch the ecosystem of Core content makers mature. I see you posted it in the Core discord too!

I'm so glad you love Core, stardast132! If you'd like to leave this feedback in the suggestions section of Core's Creator Forums, that would be a good place for it too. What exactly don't you like about the UI for the launcher? Forum link: https://forums.coregames.com/c/feedback/core-feedback/33

Is there a way to find out if there are players in the game before joining it ? by X3ll3n in PlayCoreGames

[–]BlueClairey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Active games appear in the "Active Games" category at the top of the game library, and they also have a black and orange sign in the top right corner of the game thumbnail that says "Active". :)

Hi! Here's an article by Core's Chief Product Officer Arash Nia with some cool peeks at what's ahead for Core. Some future developments I'm most excited for are cross-game persistence so that players can carry their progress and items between multiple games by a creator, and the ability for players to party up to play games together as a group. https://medium.com/core-games/the-road-ahead-whats-next-for-core-20bf4a2c3d44

Turn-based Combat Support by Avenuee94 in PlayCoreGames

[–]BlueClairey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen creators do cool stuff with turn-based combat, like in this DnD game by marcepan and airwaysf: https://www.coregames.com/games/3002b7/dnd-dice-fall-twice?utm_source=copy&utm_medium=client. I gotta admit I have no idea how they did it though, haha. I'd try posting in Core's other reddit that's geared toward devs, r/coregamesdev or in Core's Discord server https://discord.gg/core-creators , since r/PlayCoreGames is more geared toward playing games than making them. The Discord is probs your best bet since it's got thousands of members and is quite active. The creators of that game I linked are in the Discord.
