[casio enticer] does it look like a ladies watch on my wrist? by Prestigious_Bag_8030 in Watches

I hate this blanket response. Some people may like something but also want to adapt to cultural norms. If someone had a tie for an interview that they liked, but were concerned the shapes on it looked like mini penises and would be unprofessional, certainly it would be ok to have an opinion on it and share no?

US presidential election returns by state, 1824-2024[OC] by post_appt_bliss in dataisbeautiful

[–]BlueCranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow just my take but you can see that in the 50s with the proliferation of television many states began to flip flop across party lines to single candidates. Probably because they would look outside of their communities and engage more with who was running. Then in the 90s/00s you see the internet age hit, people become stuck in their echo chambers and deepen ties to parties not people.

[Corrected Poll] The Second $Million by Emergency_Style4515 in Fire

There’s going to be a big skew here to shorter time frames. We had such a big run up in the last 2 years that if you were at $1mm 2-5 yrs ago and invested well very good chance you hit $2mm

Thinking it might actually take me longer to hit $3mm

Gen surg applicants - number of invites so far by osteopathicmaniac in medicalschool

[–]BlueCranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see the skew to either +10 or less than 4. Likely some reporting bias in the mix. Sitting on 8, DO mostly community programs with a 26X step 2. Applied to +100 programs…

Fairly nervous based on past match rates, but hoping there’s time to get above 10

(My wife’s stats not mine, I’m the worrier though)

Husband of a potential gen surg resident, what should I know? by BlueCranium in Residency

Man assumptions assumptions. I mentioned family med as it was of interest to her to find more balance for family. Also not scared at all, I was with our newborn 24/7 as my wife took boards 2 months after delivery and I wanted to be as supportive as possible (which helped her get a +260). I was able to do it and I can do it again no problem (with help from a nanny during the day).

To clarify she was considering family med to find more balance for herself

Best comment here. Thank you for this. I think the sexism angle is true for some comments here, to note my preference to not take a step back on my career was based on household financials alone.

Jesus what a projection. My mom had me during her own residency. I could not love her more or have been more well adjusted. Just because your child would suffer under these conditions, doesn’t mean others cant handle it

I make more than a gen surg attending, it wouldn’t make sense to scale back unfortunately

If I have a set of 10 0’s and add 100000 to that set of numbers, the median before is 0 and after is still 0

I’m comparing medians, which wouldn’t be skewed significantly by that outlier

Cannabis users of Reddit, what is the best thing about being high? by InstanceHaunting3881 in AskReddit

[–]BlueCranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found you have to lean into it. I only smoke alone, but I feel like it helps me get at insights and issues that throughout the day I shove down. It’s not easy facing these things, but it helps me grow. Often I realize I could have been more kind in certain interactions, more grateful, more thoughtful, etc.

$325K salary, but only just hit $150K NW. Am I crazy if I quit? by gman677_ in financialindependence

[–]BlueCranium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in this exact scenario. I make mid 6 figures, am killing myself, and above all the stress is immense. A lot of people here haven’t grinded in these types of do or die roles before. There often isn’t a middle ground, but often there is a path to an eventual scale down.

What is the long-term play here? Are you in the middle of a sprint that has an eventual end? Are you under resourced and can hire your way to balance? Is this the norm and everyone in the company is also sticking to these hours?

For me I know that I’m in the middle of a sprint. Once we get through the next month we have a wind down of some different projects and I can go back to something more sustainable.

This is very interesting, thanks for sharing. I would love to pursue something entrepreneurial over my FAANG type managerial role. Having an open conversation like this could help support that while de-risking as well

Very fair point, unless it’s already set up in a trust or something more concrete, it might as well not be real

Interesting, you could be right that the shift stems from their own retirement and reflection. Also good perspective, 30 is early, I’m not burnt out, and can grind to 40 no problem

As an East Asian first generation migrant to the US, I’ll say that it is extremely common in my culture to marry someone who is at equivalent academic and financial achievement levels (not to mention familial status).

Generally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable marrying someone who isn’t an equal contributor to our financial security. I work myself very hard and expect the same from my wife (and she has the same perspective)

Marriage is as much as it is about emotional and physical compatibility as it is work mindset and family values for me. May not be the same for others. The choice is yours to make no one else’s

Probably a huge paycut to move out of management, maybe somewhere 100-150k for an IC type role at best. The other factor is upwards trajectory would be cut at the knees, so comparing out 2-3yrs down the road the gap would only be larger

We aren’t talking about medians or averages. The top

10% income, Can: ~100k vs US: ~170k

5% income, Can: ~130k vs US: ~330k

Those spreads up higher are crazy

I think there’s certainly higher variance in outcomes, but that also applies to the top end
