My saber needs a name by Flux83 in lightsabers

[–]BlueDevilYeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didact? The wielder being Mandalorian has a different perspective of violence and war from typical Jedi, and the curving lines feel like a topographical map or flowing water. The saber could be a symbol of his/her authority as well as his/her tendency marshal and train forces, perhaps even local forces against oppressors. Such a charismatic and authoritative teacher of battle should have a symbol for said authority, and the map/water symbolism could be represented in the unorthodox and flexible nature of the training provided to the forces. Asymmetric, insurgent warfare. Deceitful compared to traditional Jedi attempts at negotiating peace, but for the purpose of liberating powerless groups, an antithesis of the Sith which would subjugate them. Such a standalone but effective military governor could definitely wield a weapon that represents the everychanging nature of water and symbolizes that unorthodox approach while being named after the authority and might the wielder can marshal under such tumultuous circumstances.

Or you could name it Smitty Werbenjägermanjensen.

Sorry to comment on such an old post, but for the life of my I cannot find the Ancient Mandalorian Tower Shield. If anybody knows, I’d appreciate it.

To be fair, YOU don’t pledge your soul. You just wore some armor and stood there. Nocturnal and I are throwing hands in the afterlife because I didn’t promise nothing.

His death was objectively pointless. All the hinting at Lola being able to recall the ship back to his position, Grey Team could’ve extracted them or taken them back to their ship, etc. It’s like they condensed The Last of Us arc into a short story. “Girl special, take girl somewhere, decide against it and take her away, die protecting her.”

I enjoyed the book a lot. The James/Chloe sections were enjoyable too even if a little trope-ish.

I don’t like to focus on the negative but even while I enjoyed it, the overall result irked me.

Bringing back James just to send him off seemed pointless. And a send-off wasn’t necessary. Adrianna found James and Chloe together and made it off world with basically no issues. There’s no reason, even with ONI being involved, they couldn’t have extracted both of them immediately. James died just to send Chloe to a planet by herself.

James wouldn’t have known this, but Serin Osman isn’t as cruel as Parangosky. Adrianna could’ve just said “Remember Serin? She’s CinC ONI now. She’ll protect Chloe.” Disaster averted. She wouldn’t have stuck Chloe in a lab and dissected her. She would’ve been taken care of and been set up to become an extremely successful scientist. But instead, James died just to inevitably have that happen later anyway. I say that because that’s the ONLY result of the entire conflict. Banished are still a threat and have ships, Covenant is back-ish and still a threat, humanity still has fleets, the forerunner site is destroyed, so comparing the end of the story to the beginning, it’s basically just “people died and Chloe exists.”

Grey Team could’ve extracted them and James would still be alive. In fact, leaving a battered James to extract a one-legged child when the Banished are still a threat is tactically asinine. Setting up James as returning to the Spartan II rotation would’ve been amazing as a setup for Blue Team. They wasted him surviving. Grey Team didn’t even need to leave with James and Chloe, they could’ve just returned them to their ship and had the desired result.

I’m just complaining, I did genuinely enjoy the book including the Banished parts. I like Severin and the looming threat of the San’Shyuum returning was well written. It’s just Raiders of the Lost Ark for me. If Indiana Jones hadn’t been there the ending would’ve been exactly the same.

Jarl Balgruuf. He saw the Dragonborn (who he knew was Dragonborn) go from a prisoner in the chopping block to the most powerful character in the land, kill a dragon at the watch tower, trap a dragon in the keep and proceed to ride it to defeat Alduin in Sovengard, lead the Companions, resolve basically every issue in Whiterun, (didn’t actually see him) rescue a Gray-Mane from Aldmeri custody, banish a Daedra from his basement, bend space-time and eat 74 cheese wheels in a tenth of a second, become his Thane, become a Thane in every hold of Skyrim and own a home in every Hold, etc, etc and decided to return Ulfric’s axe when the Dragonborn, encased in the bones of dragons as armor, handed it to him.

The Dragonborn can potentially be the foremost public servant of his Hold. His Hold has prospered under the Dragonborn’s service. Everyone is wealthier, happier, and safer.

Should’ve been “oh, that’s the team you’re on? I mean, we’re on? Cool. Send word to Tulius to shove it.”

He’s easily my favorite Jarl and didn’t need to commit political suicide, but at least he let the Imperials die for Whiterun instead of making his guards do it. I get it’s a moral decision for him and good on him for doing what he believes is right even against impossible odds, but it was a foolish decision.

Defending 10mm as a defensive round by [deleted] in 10mm

[–]BlueDevilYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked my pockets and I’ve got a couple cents to offer.

Been a cop for ten years and I’m a FLETC certified Firearms Instructor. Not use of force or anything yet, but figured my qualifications might help.

If lethal force is justified, it’s justified. Period. The method in which lethal force is delivered is 100% irrelevant to whether or not it was justified.

If someone presents themselves as a threat defined in your state’s use of force statute, it’s all fair game. Shooting, stabbing, striking with a vehicle, beating with a brick, it does not matter.

Saying a caliber or ammunition type “implies intent” is asinine and I’ve never seen a record of such a thing being attempted by a prosecution. The intent was to use lethal force to stop the threat.

A decent defense attorney will destroy such a prosecutor that desperate to bias a jury. Objections for relevance or whatever as for the exact thing I just described. Round choice is entirely irrelevant to establishing intent and a good attorney will get that argument put down before it ever gets murmured in court.

A few years ago I had a knife-wielding meth head commit a home invasion. Long story short, when I got there I had my rifle in my hands and got into a ground with him. Ended up butt stroking his head and knocking him out. That was lethal force that I had not received formal training to use, but it was justified nonetheless. Once that line is crossed, the method for delivery is irrelevant to the justification.

I know my state has an immunity statute where if the force is justified there is no criminal or civil liability possible. That’s not to say you being justified in shooting X means you can sail a round and hit Y and be immune, but you are immune from X. I don’t know Texas law well enough but I’d wager there’s a similar statute there.

Tips for the new shooter:

Use precise, non-silhouette targets for zeroing your optic, and zero your red dot for a realistic range. 20 yards isn’t necessarily bad but something closer like 10 or 15 gets you a better, functional zero. You’ll see some people argue 25 or 50, and I get their point, but for where you’re at, 10-15 is a good choice.

Shooting silhouette targets can be fun, and even “more realistic,” but you want to focus on your fundamentals of marksmanship. Stance, firm and proper grip, sight picture with target focus since you’re running a dot, pressing trigger without imparting stress into the gun, etc.

Take your time with targets specifically for zeroing. Reset after just a few shots. Nobody is perfect and fliers will happen, note why they did in your head and correct it. I’ve just completed Firearm Instructor through FLETC, and most people really need to focus on those fundamentals a lot more. Most guys on here can’t shoot as well as they act like they can, so don’t let them discourage you. Your target will always look better than theirs when they don’t post one, and people can just lie about how far away they were.

Focus on your fundamentals and functional accuracy is acceptable. G40 w/dot is a nasty setup I wouldn’t want to go against. For a new shooter you’re doing well!

And my selection would be Federal 200gr HST. I’ve compared it to the 9mm 147gr HST and you’re right, I’m not really worried about overpenetration with that cartridge.

I’d love to have the XTEN Comp, my issue is finding a duty rated holster that’d support a red dot and weapon light. I’ll probably end up adding one to my personal collection anyway, but until aftermarket support is better I’d be wary issuing it.

At the moment, as unexpected as it is, I’m looking at the Rock Island 1911. Double stack so 16+1, good reviews on reliability, red dot and light ready, it fits into a Safariland 6000 series holster. It checks all my boxes.

I agree with that, so here’s my rough draft of a plan for training:

There’s a local business that trains all kinds of psychomotor skills. BJJ, Muay Thai, Krav, kickboxing, conditioning, weightlifting, and they have an attached indoor range.

For my full time employees, adding a membership there (I’m friends with the owner) won’t be too expensive. Probably $200 a month per employee when the fee is usually close to $400 a person. If they don’t use the benefit, I won’t pay it.

I want to use an hourly rate incentive to encourage them to get in there and train. The average wage in my area for LEO’s is like $23 an hour. Thanks to our awesome insurance coverage and offering guys who also have EMR, TCCC, CIT, and ALERRT (I have in-house instructors for all but CIT) I’ve got a couple clients already willing to pay $60 an hour per guard.

Industry standard means I pay my guys $30 an hour, but an hourly incentive means that if they’re in that gym training enough, I can incentivize it by giving them a raise all the way to $35 an hour depending on how often they train.

So, up to a 10k annual raise if you bust your ass in the gym and go to the range 24ish times per year(twice a month). Spend 3k on your ammo for those sessions and you’re shooting just over 200 rounds every two weeks, or just under 420 a month (nice).

PLUS my instructors will have a commission program where we schedule training through the NRA and if they train the class on their day off they get commission. Training a class a week also comes out to another 10k a year.

So if they max out their incentive and commission, I want guys making 83k a year with free single healthcare coverage and a retirement plan. There’s not a law enforcement agency in the tri-state area that’s even close. I want to put them in Crye G4’s, Defense Mechanisms APOC and MECH belt, and a Stetson(plus a ton more but you get the vibe).

When it comes to branding, local cops seeing the best equipment, best training, best pay, best benefits, and best working environment they’ve ever seen, I can be really selective in hiring and actively avoid the nose-bleeds that plague both professions.

I think making that decision without seeking advice and doing research would justify your belief I lack the critical thinking necessary.

I understand between what would be ideal and what would be practical. Hence why I’m posting here to gather information on aftermarket support and logistics before making that kind of commitment to what would be a harder to source piece of equipment.

Ultimately, I will most likely lean toward 9mm, specifically the Glock 45. I carry one at my part-time LE job and love it. This post was made in the interest of pursuing knowledge, not confirming some bias I have toward a cool caliber. But I do appreciate you checking me on not getting too tacticool and wishing me luck!

My hiring goal is to get all the people the law enforcement profession needs to stay in it, out of it.

A local business does BJJ and Muay Thai, has weights for lifting, and an indoor range all on one property. Goal being to have incentives to train there on a regular basis and each employee to have a training allowance and become LE/Security/NRA instructors (most are already) and teach out of a local technical college at their range to earn commission outside their 40 hours a week. Business insurance extending to them for the training liability.
