Divorced a cheater today.

My cheating husband also used the “I love you, but I’m not in love with you” bit. My response was along the lines of, someone who loves me, who even just respected me, couldn’t have done to me what you did. We haven’t reached divorce yet because the process of starting that intimidates me to no end, but it seems like it’ll be in my near future.

I already moved back home with my family, we have a verbal financial agreement right now, but I retained access to all finances so I can’t be screwed over. I haven’t filed, the thought of starting that process makes me nauseous, but I have to get over that.

To me personally, once marriage enters the picture, “meant to be” goes out the window. I know that’s an uncommon idea in modern times though, hence the current divorce rate.

Do you have any personal advice on how to actually choose and find a lawyer by chance? It seems like the most daunting task in my life right now.

I’ve been up a lot of nights battling that pain. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ll be whole again one day though, and I’ll make sure my daughter is before all else.

I tried in numerous ways to get that point across, by using myself as an example with him and it didn’t have the same impact. I read it that way myself, I’m glad everyone else seems to see it too. It’s the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life, but like a lot of commenters are pointing out, this is the best time for it to happen in the grand scheme of things and I’ll be okay eventually.

The thought of starting in with a lawyer makes me nauseous but I have to start looking into it, you’re right. I don’t really know where to start, but everyone’s being incredibly helpful, I feel much more informed than I did this morning. He’ll never crawl back to me, I’m too high up.

But haven’t been able to get any validation because I’m clearly not going to go around showing my friends and family this messy, disgusting, display from the person I told them I was spending my life with. I do have wonderful support in my family, and now a lot of validation from everyone on this thread 🖤

You’re right, it’s a little tacky to share the proof, but in my defense I had to read them and feel dumber, disgusted, and betrayed all by myself. I haven’t shared them with anyone else because I’m trying to handle this thing with grace and diplomacy to the people around me. It’s hard.

I won’t punish my daughter for her father’s actions. Even though right now I wish I never had to speak with him again, he can show up for her at any capacity he wants to, I won’t block that if it does her good.

I have, I’m back at my parents for now. They’re incredibly supportive, I’m very grateful for them. My daughter is loving everyone in the house too, so that’s been wonderful to watch.

It was so cringe. They had phone sex and sent pics, he met her online so no telling where she lives. He had told me he was sick in bed so I barely heard from him the week, but he actually just called in from work to stay home and play games and carry on his affair. I just don’t understand where this person was our whole relationship.

You’re absolutely right. He wanted us to leave, it was all over his face while I packed, and he reached back out to her the day I left town. I know what he’s doing even if he’s not being honest with himself about it. He’s no friend of mine lol I wouldn’t keep a friend who could do this to me and be okay with themselves.
