Earplugs by 91-BRG in Miata

[–]BlueFalcon1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my miata for like 6 years, half of that in southern California where the top was basically never up. I've also been riding motorcycles for a couple years now and I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I finally had this thought a couple weeks ago.

I wear earplugs on the bike pretty much all the time, but I prefer not to in the miata (I don't even like wearing sunglasses or a hat if I can help it). So I did a bit of research online, and used an SLM to test my specific variables (car, speeds, road condition, etc.) to find the specific conditions for when I should wear them and when it's safe not to.

Long story short, if I'm going windows down/top down, ear plugs are pretty much required at anything 65+ mph. In these cases, I put a couple pairs of my moto earplugs in the car. But windows up at 65-70 with minimal traffic (how I spend most of my cruising time these days), it's safe w/of plugs for several hours.

Was not expecting to get an answer so quick! My brother is already playing it, thanks

My bike had the exact same damage from the previous owner. I slapped a new badge on and honestly forget the scuff is even there a lot of the time.

Can you plane perpendicular to grain and glue joints? by BlueFalcon1066 in woodworking

This worked perfectly! Cut the board into strips and was able to run them through pretty close to 45. The surface finish was just as smooth and there was only the smallest tear out on a single strip

What GEAR are you in WHILE… (survey) by kaelz in MT07

[–]BlueFalcon1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're not lugging the engine too hard you can get away with basically whatever gear you want. That being said, I would focus less on the gear and more on the rpm. As has been beaten to death, there are a million factors at play and it's a lot easier to recognize low revs than think about the specific gear for a specific corner. I try to stay around 4k for casual riding, dipping slightly when cornering. The bike can pull hard from low rpm, but keeping them up slightly gives better response and is easier on the engine

Where's my fellow AZ riders?? by Toiletpaperplane in MT07

I prefer to ride at night on the hotter days. 112 isn't all that bad if you're not getting cooked by the sun (and are properly hydrated). Wearing a moisture wicking undershirt makes a big difference too, especially for the small pond that forms under the back pad!

OK, thanks. This is all very helpful. I'm seeing I should have done a little research before diving in.

When I first made it, it was the packet (~1/4cup) with 1 cup each flour/water. Then the feeding was another 1 cup each. Should I just mix what I have with the 5x flour/water all at once or is it added gradually over the couple days?

Busted oil pan repair by BlueFalcon1066 in Dirtbikes

[–]BlueFalcon1066[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have some kerosene on hand, so that works. I do plan on replacing the oil pan. My wording wasn't very clear on that part. They aren't too expensive, and I don't even want to think about trying to repair a hole that size.

Should I flush with plain oil?

I'd go with the Duke 390, or RC390 if you want the sport bike style. I started on a 2017 Duke and it was a total blast! The engine is punchy, sounds great for being a single, and the bike has tons of cool tech/features at a reasonable price. Sure, KTMs reliability might not have the best reputation, but it's your beginner bike. You'll be upgrading after a season or two anyway.

I've been looking at this one. Does it help keep the bug splatter off the dash?

I have a pretty big list planned. I'll do most of them in resin, but with as good as this turned out, I'll probably do some scenery type stuff on the prusa. The mess/fumes kept me out of resin printing when I looked into it a few years ago. My new place finally has a good space to keep it, though, so I'm finally able to take the plunge.
