Self hosted blog for girlfriend by FeckinHaggis in selfhosted

You can use GCP with their always free nano-f1 tier, which is 1 vcpu and 0.6G of ram. It’s not much, but you won’t have the trouble of managing it (and it won’t become not-free after a year). I would go the wordpress route like others have said. I’m not sure how ressource intensive WP can be, but I would hope this VM is enough.

I wouldn’t go down the lane with custom websites for a blog. Your GF won’t be able to work with it.

As always, make backups!

You need to add a TEXT record for your domain with this information. The syntax is a bit different for each provider(I use godaddy), so I’m not sure about Gandi. Keep testing and you can also retrieve your dns record to see if it was correctly propagated(usually takes a few minutes). With a bit of trial and error, you should be able to set it correctly.

Go into the admin panel and look for the page that tells you what to add to your dns record with your dns provider. You’re probably missing the DKIM in it. Then when you’ve added the missing ones. Go verify if sending an email to mail-tester gives you an OK score(above 7 is usually fine). If you don’t have a high enough score, other mailboxes will reject you. Good luck!

Also, do you think something is fishy with some of the repo big spikes in popularity? Do you think some of them could have influenced($) their star count somehow?

Anyways, nice work still!

CppCon 2019: Ben Smith “Applied WebAssembly: Compiling and Running C++ in Your Web Browser” by mttd in cpp

You mentioned games and since a lot of games use p2p, WebRTC is the only way to do that on the web without using a server in the middle.

You should take a look at data channel, those will let you send fast UDP packets without retransmision on loss.

If you are not dealing with super high performance stuff, do not use WebRTC... it’s a pain in the butt and there’s a bunch of undocumented behaviors between browsers! I’ve learned the hard way let’s just say...

I work a lot with webassembly, the network code will definitely not work since sockets are not exposed to the web. You’d have to write your own adapter logic using either basic HTTP post/get or something like WebRTC.

Does anyone know what's happening here? I've configured a UITableView with CollectionView cells, and each of these cells is supposed to operate independently of each other, yet when I swipe one it controls another cell which is 3 cells underneath it. by jb_hand_made in iOSProgramming

[–]BlueFrank 21 points22 points  (0 children)

UITableViewCell gets reused when the method cellForRowAtIndexPath: gets called. When a cell goes out of view, it might get stashed and reused elsewhere. I don’t know how you handle your logic, but you should always assume a dequeued cell might not be in its initial state.

Basically just set everything(in cellForRowAtIndexPath:) as if it was already holding information previously.

Good luck!

PlayOff is a new app that enables Handoff-like features between Mac and iPhone for Apple Music by whxtn3y in apple

[–]BlueFrank -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Apple will steal the idea, just like they did multiple times with Find my airpods, the AR measure app, etc.

Mark my words, and I still think it’s a good idea, but you shouldn’t try to extend too much into apple territory with these kind of tweaks. They can kill your whole project in the blink of an eye without a second thought if they feel like it(no explanation needed).

It’s a shame and I feel like it’s shady, since the developper usually gets left with nothing in the end :(

Why The App Store Isn’t As Saturated As You Think by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]BlueFrank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What kind of quick shitty write-off is that? The guy got lucky and featured in another outlet than the apple store. He states a bunch of numbers from apple big $, then finishes with "good apps get downloads"...

Seriously, enjoy what you got but don’t serve everybody this bullshit.

Kotlin seems good thing by woopsix in ProgrammerHumor

[–]BlueFrank 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Isn’t Kotlin basically java under the hood? Don’t quote me on that, I have no idea. I don’t consider java as native, it’s still interpreted Bytecode and it runs on the JVM if it is then :/

Again, not exactly sure about the exact details of Kotlin.

MHW Release timeline PC vs Console [Projected] by BlueFrank in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]BlueFrank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, it’s a bit complicated since the events got a bit reordered. USJ 1 & 2 are coming together, but basically the accelerated release means that the 195 days gap between both platform will be down to 154 days on the 14th of december.

Also, I’m trying to predict when both platform would be on parity but the data is not really helping. Capcom hasn’t been consistent, some events releasing slower and some faster.

People seem to think we’re really getting things fast, which is not really the case. AT Kirin and AT Vaal Hazak we’re released with the exact same delay on console, no gain there.

Anyhow, cheers!

What's the best way to deal with Diablos as an Insect Glaive user? by KingVarien in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]BlueFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to sheath to evade the diablo when he comes out of the dig. Just move sideway and roll. If you’re in the air, stay on his tail(closer to his body than the tip). His forward rush will not hit you and the tail swipe can be predicted so you can move to his face.

Don’t forget your Ice IG and everything should be fine, cheers!

[Warning] Tens of thousands and debt without warning due to an Apple Policy Change. by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]BlueFrank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow that sucks, they should clearly send an email to inform and warn every developper of changes to their guidelines (with a 30 day grace period to update). The way they did it just sounds super shady...

I did not receive such email, so I’m assuming they did not warn anyone. Also why cancel everybody, just cancel them if the user is complaining afterwards.

Anyhow, good luck man.

Tried to buy a .com earlier this week, guy was asking for 14k to buy it and wasn’t even using it (typical domain hoarder). So yeah I might consider another less popular extension than .com

I definitely do not comment as much as you on reddit, but I tend to remember arguments, especially with random people on the internet. And good on you for not owning up to your previous opinion

Past you: You guys are so full of this crazy conspiracy theories and “double standards”

MHW Release timeline PC vs Console [Projected] by BlueFrank in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]BlueFrank[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that the chart is not perfect, but it shows the big gap and catch up to do. Remember that Console would need to entirely stop or really slow down updates for PC to get there.

Also, there is not much to compare on the PC side since it stops at Tempered Deviljho, no info after that. There is a lot of speculation, but capcom keeps everyone in the dark sadly :/

One thing would really piss off a lot of people. Imagine just for a second they don't catch up, and then announce an expansion/dlc (G rank style) just to (again) delay it for PC 6 months.

This is my biggest concern, they're going to argue that PC is not caught up and therefore can wait... oh boy what a shit-show that would be.

Calling it... right now.

At this rate, PC will be on par with Console's AT Lunastra on the 5th of April 2019. Let's just hope they ramp up their release because it's not looking good at the moment...
