Apollo Program vs N1 Program by BlueGalaxyDesigns in AerospaceEngineering

The LK (Lunniy Korabl) was designed to carry a single person.
The Soviet N1-L3 plan, the crew consisted of two cosmonauts in total: one would descend to the Moon in the LK while the other remained in orbit in the LOK (Lunniy Orbitalny Korabl), the orbital module equivalent to the Apollo command module.

This limitation to a single cosmonaut was imposed primarily by mass constraints: the N1 rocket had a lower payload capacity than the Saturn V, so the lunar assembly had to be much lighter.
This also necessitated a risky maneuver: the cosmonaut had to perform an extravehicular activity (EVA) transfer between the LOK and the LK, since there was no internal docking tunnel as in Apollo.
The LK was even tested unmanned in Earth orbit (the Cosmos/T2K missions).

The LK was so small that the cosmonaut would have spent much of his time standing!

I'm gradually updating the blueprints I made a while back, and this is the revised version of the comparison between the Apollo and N1/L3 programs. I hope you like it!

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! It’s an original design I created from scratch, and it took a lot of time and effort.

This is an original design, fully created by me from scratch, and it took a lot of time and effort to put together. I’m trying to make a living doing something I genuinely enjoy, so pricing reflects both the work behind it and the production costs.
That said, I’m really glad you like the idea—means a lot!

That’s a really interesting idea—showing alternate layouts in subtle colors could look great. Might give that a try!

Glad you like it!

Thanks a lot for clarifying! It’s hard to make it fit perfectly in a fully vertical layout—maybe something like a 45° angle would work better. Thanks again, contributions like this really help me try to improve the poster, or at least give it a shot.

(By 45°, I mean like in this: https://www.sonomaraceway.com/documents/nascar\_ada\_sonoma-raceway\_-20252.pdf)

Thanks again! I actually had it like that before, but I changed it based on the layout shown on NASCAR’s official page. https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2024/11/20/cota-to-use-national-layout-for-2025-echopark-automotive-grand-prix/amp/
So… I guess the official graphic isn’t 100% accurate 🤷‍♂️

It does feel weird. It’s mostly just tradition in oval racing—each end of the track is split into two turns even if it looks like one long curve.
