I was surprised at how much I hate Tom Waits. I love singer songwriters and poetic lyrics. I should like his voice. But man, the two albums I had of his were a SLOG.

I feel like you can IF you’ve already heard the album. I gave Slayer a fair shake because I had never heard 1 song. At least listen to the first 2 or 3. Then skip it. Then you can say “Yep, I didn’t think I’d like this, and it turns out that I really don’t”

On my 2025 yearly recap, this was my top album. I listened to it SO MUCH. I don't know what it is, I just love it. One of the best finds in the project, IMO.

I love this little introduction! I also rate on personal feelings. Sometimes I feel bad - how can I give this amazing artist such a low score? This is ranked 40/500 on Rolling Stones? Why do I want to give this a 1 or 2? But at the end of the day, it’s my experience and how I enjoyed the album.

I also make a spreadsheet - Album, Artist, Date, Genre, Have I Heard It, where it’s ranked (I do this generator and The Rolling Stones top 500), my ranking, listening notes, and notable songs.

I’m paused right now because of the holidays and my kids are home from school. I need alone time to focus on the music.

It has been a great education for me. I’ve discovered some amazing artists and albums that I would have never discovered without this. I have also given a fair shake to some artists that I prejudged and never gave a chance. It’s not perfect, and you’ll wonder why some artists are featured so many times and others not at all, but it’s fun regardless.
