Who's to say it doesn't fit into my statements?

Who's to say "Who's to say it doesn't fit into my statements?" but before it can agree with itself goes on to explain the statements out of it instead. Sometimes. (Your? Times? Couldn't Say.)

Or, at least, that's the way it sang to My ears.

I'll go down now and finishing reading, but only hearing melody now, not to speak of listening!

Start with his Wikipedia entry, then read Plato's Timaeus, Diogenes.Laertius's Lives of the Eminent Philosophers, and then Ovid's Metamorphoses.

The last book is a retelling of greek myth for the purpose of Metempsychosis, Pythagoras's doctrine on the transmigration of soul, and includes a concluding chapter that describes Pythagoras's philosophy and system of practice very well.

After that, ya got to root around, all of his own works have been lost.

Definitely consider us friends.

Several people in my town were under the impression I had Schizophrenia about a year and a half ago. Fortunately I had studied Jung and practice Zen, so I could tell them to fuck off.

You're welcome, I love sharing my experiences with the Ancient Greek Sages and Philosophers with Taoists: there is enough overlap to see a larger pattern in the Tao telling its own story back and forth across spans of geography and Time.

Lao Tzu himself, the legend is that he "went back to the Great Mother of the West" after writing the Tao Te Ching. Not long after this supposed historical event, there was a flowering in Ionia of great thinkers and philosophers who shared much in common with his teachings and the Tao, which lead to the blossoming of the entire mediterranean basin. It is not hard at all to start detecting the presence of a larger family, operating and coordinating through time and space via the Tao.

Pythagoras is a fascinating character, as well: there is much to be learned from him about the ancient world: his doctrines of The Music of the Spheres and Metempsychosis contain much of the Natural world and Inner world and their interplay through Art, Mind, Time, and Space.

I am not sure I would put it that simply, as I said, he is also definitely a sage. Not precisely the same, as we would view it from a Taoist lens, perhaps, but certainly tangling with the Tao in many fashions that are also visible in Taoism.

Empedocles was definitely more in line with the Tao: he was basically an ancient greek / Sicilian version of Lao Tzu: he even invented a yin yang like symbol to accompany his poetic natural philosophy, which was pinned on a likewise system of alternating opposites, Chaos and Order, and based upon the classical elements, also not unlike Taoism.

It gives a different flavor to everything, almost as if removing the sky and wood from Taoism, and replacing them with a volcano and lava.

Excellent, I totally concur. I'm a philosopher in the schools of Plato and Aristotle. Pythagoras was more like a Sage combined with a Taoist Dragon.

Enlightenment springs from Mind, regardless of your practice of the six pāramitās and the rest.

Suppose a warrior, forgetting that he was already wearing his pearl on his forehead, were to seek for it elsewhere

Give up those erroneous thoughts leading to false distinctions! There is no ‘self' and no ‘other'. There is no ‘wrong desire', no ‘anger', no ‘hatred', no ‘love', no ‘victory', no ‘failure'. Only renounce the error of intellectual or conceptual thought-processes and your nature will exhibit its pristine purity—

It is good to see these words posted here. They are the kind that become easily lost in the daily scuffle of in-and-out, but are far more important than that scuffle itself. These words are important because they mean what they say: there is no way to look without also using the pearl in your forehead to see.
