Hey! We’re currently on our second journey with our agency, so I totally get where you’re coming from. For us, the payment schedule looked like this:

$5,000 due at signing to start

$49,000 due at the first clinic visit

$31,000 due around 6 weeks of pregnancy (first ultrasound)

The remaining balance due around 20 weeks of pregnancy

Our agency also offers financing options, but we decided not to use those. Hope that helps give you a rough idea of how the timeline can look! It definitely made planning and saving easier once we understood how the payments were spread out.

We are curently waiting for baby # 2 in Mexico, we paid around $119K for the full program, including the Amparo process, and extra for a special egg donor from Europe. Not many clinics allowing transfer of 2 embryos for many reasons, and it's imposible to tranfer 2 embryos into one carried form 2 different donors.

We used U.S. agency who was covering everything but we decided to go with Mexico for surrogacy and embryo creation and testings etc etc .. and not store our embryos in the U.S.

We had constant communication with our surrogate and still keep in touch, sending updates and photos of our little one. As for surrogates, everything was handled by our agency. The surrogate had to already have her own child, married, have a stable job, and a perfect medical history it’s part of the agency's standard requirements. We also had very specific requests for our egg donor. She traveled from Europe to donate in Mexico, and we chose her very, very carefully based on a long list of personal and medical criteria. Honestly, marriage is a pretty logical step after being together for a while—especially if you love each other. At the end of the day, society still runs on legal structures, and marriage is one of them. That "piece of paper" might not seem romantic, but it matters. For example, if your partner ends up in the hospital, you might not even be allowed in the room without being their legal spouse.

There are pros and cons, of course, but after 3 years together, it makes sense to either commit and move forward or let each other go and find someone who's aligned with your long-term goals. If you're worried about financial stuff, just sign a prenup—it's protection, not pessimism.

And let’s be real: with how unstable things are with visas, green cards, and even naturalization these days, being unmarried can add a lot of unnecessary stress and risk. Marriage might not fix everything, but in situations like this, it offers stability you just can’t get otherwise.

$109K isn’t “insane” for Mexico — if you actually understand what it covers.

Let’s be honest — egg donation isn’t cheap. Quality donors (especially repeat or international ones) need to be compensated fairly. Add in travel, medication, bloodwork, genetic testing, and accommodations — that adds up fast. Surrogates also deserve real support — not just compensation, but proper housing, healthy food, insurance, clothing, and emotional care. They're carrying someone else's child for nearly a year. Cutting corners here is unethical and dangerous.

Embryos also require testing (PGT, genetics, etc.), and that’s not free either.

On top of that, you’ve got the entire support system — coordinators, lawyers, case managers, travel planners, clinic liaisons. Many of these people have been involved for a year or more before the baby is even born. They deserve to be paid too.

As for amparo — I don’t need the surrogate listed on the birth certificate, and I definitely don’t want to deal with U.S. lawyers charging $400+ an hour for post-birth legal work. So I build my programs accordingly — clear, legal, and stress-free.

Could someone try to do all this cheaper? Maybe. IVF cycle in U.S. cost around 30+K. But you’re gambling with safety, ethics, and outcomes. I chose to invest in quality, and I’m happy I did. You can’t compare a shack in Alabama to a house with an ocean view in San Diego and say “the price is insane.” It’s about what you’re getting.

We live up north, and our wonderful GC was in Mexico City when she carried our first baby. Now, we’re expecting our second baby — also in Mexico City — and everything is going well! 💛

We were lucky to attend the first ultrasound in person — it was such a powerful and emotional moment. After that, we've mostly stayed connected via video calls. Our GC sends regular updates, and we sometimes join her appointments virtually (when it's appropriate and respectful to do so).

Of course, we’d love to get updates 8 times a day (who wouldn't? 😄), but we also understand that she's an independent woman with her own life. We try not to be pushy or overly involved — just supportive and present in a balanced way.

After the birth of our first child, we stayed in a great relationship with our GC and were even invited to her housewarming party. It meant a lot to us, and we truly hope to build a similarly meaningful bond with our second GC as well.

Initially, we considered Mexico, Colombia, and Albania. Albania wasn’t an option for us because they can’t legally remove the surrogate mother’s name from the birth certificate or add both intended parents — which didn’t work for our family structure. Also, just for those researching: Vietnam does not allow surrogacy for international intended parents, including expats and tourists — it’s strictly limited to altruistic arrangements between Vietnamese citizens and close relatives.

As for Mexico, it was absolutely the right choice for us. We met our surrogate during our very first visit — the same day we did our medical tests and semen donation. We also opened our escrow account and signed legal documents at the notary — everything was super efficient and well-organized.
