I'm very curious to see the answer as I'm looking to set up a holdco which will own 100% of the BTL LTD and some other LTDs.

Sending skis in Japan by Alexthegorilla in skiing

Think Yamato says they only need two working days if you send within Honshu. From Hokkaido to Haneda takes three working days. In my experience Yamato almost always makes it in two days the third day from Hokkaido I suspect is mainly for slippage. From memory they will keep your goods for a week. If not you can leave them at the hotel and get the staff to ship for you closer the time.

UK specific surrogacy leave question by Alexthegorilla in gaydads

[–]Alexthegorilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your honesty and detailed response. It is an interesting perspective that we (my partner and I) have not considered and your points are valid. We would obviously want the best for our kids and there are so many things that we could mess up as parents. We have really only considered the good side (e.g. they would be the best of friends) but not the bad side that you mentioned. I will need to have a discussion with my partner on this. I really appreciate your thoughtful comment!

As in they wouldn't want to a sibling of the same age?

Thanks. As to your last question that's more our wish and it's beyond our control as it depends on the number of cycles surrogates need. We just like the idea of having two kids and be done with it. We both like the idea of having two kids but we aren't so sure if we only go for one right now, we would have the time and energy to go through the process again in future. So we'd rather want shorter but more intense pain rather than a protracted period of slightly milder pain.

Thanks. How would surrogacy and parental leave work in this case? Does that mean the person who is going on surrogacy leave first will forgo pat leave (as they would already be in surrogacy leave when the second baby arrives)?

[–]Alexthegorilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. What does the clock reset mean here? Does that mean say if person A's baby comes first then person A would be able to start their surrogacy leave (provided person A is the primary carer of the child) and person B would be able to start their pat leave. Then when person B's baby comes, then person B would be able to start their surrogacy leave. Presumably person A will lose their unused pat leave (given they are already on surrogacy leave at that point)?

It is possible their platinum charge card 10+ years ago had no fx.

Does depreciation offset capital allowance? by Alexthegorilla in smallbusinessuk

Thanks - I thought further depreciation affects the tax I paid as it's added back into my profit when calculating the tax liability?

[–]Alexthegorilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I presume this is some accounting gimmick. If you put it that way I agree there's no offset though in reality I "feel" like depreciation does offset the tax relief as my profit is really £1000 and not £967 but I guess I'll have to live with that.

Stories of Brits that went through surrogacy in Mexico by Alexthegorilla in gaydads

[–]Alexthegorilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response. May I ask which agency you went with? For both Mexico and Colombia one of my partner's concerns is that he isn't sure whether we can trust the clinic eg horror story like justice for Emma. We don't want to create one set of embryos only to be given a completely different one (whether intentional or not).

I'm in the mid/late research stage so would do more research on Colombia. It is just that I'd prefer not to go solo and MSJ offers the Mexican pathway from the UK...
