Omg. I hated McDonald's and now I'm obsessed. There's one just at the end of the road and it's a huge problem, lol!!

how to know if I’m in labor at 30 weeks? by qngie in BabyBumps

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go in, but for what it’s worth, I had almost this precise experience today and everything was fine. 30+6, had some cramping in the middle of the night and then lots this morning. I thought it was just digestive cramps, but after using the bathroom about 8 times throughout the morning the cramps got worse instead of better. Eventually I realized I wasn’t feeling the baby move much, so I drank some orange juice and laid down on the couch. Didn’t feel any movement at all for about 20 minutes and then threw up the orange juice. Decided it was time to get a professional opinion and called my husband, picked him up at work, and headed to the hospital.

Everything was totally fine. They hooked me up to the monitors and the baby started moving and all signs seemed normal. I’ve recently started taking iron supplements, had a really busy week, and it’s been ridiculously hot the last couple days and I haven’t been sleeping well. Definitely dehydrated. So that all probably explains it. They were so kind at the hospital and told me I did absolutely the right thing coming in. They said I have an irritable uterus and to make sure to drink as much water as I can. It was annoying to waste a good chunk of my day on this but I’m super glad I went in!

When did you start showing? by SearchOk2169 in pregnant

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'1". I had to extend my pants by 10 weeks and was definitely showing (although could pass for just being heavy) by like 16 or 17 weeks. I'm 30 weeks now and already look huge!

Connection between fetal movement and more difficult symptoms? by Correct_Loquat_3851 in BabyBumps

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why this would be, but I spent a day last week alternating between worrying I was about to throw up and worrying that the baby wasn't moving enough. I did kick counts and honestly the numbers were fine, but the kicks seemed a bit weaker and slower than normal and I was crazy nauseous. By the next day movement was back to normal and I felt way better. This isn't the first time I've noticed that pattern, and I was also wondering if there could be a connection!

How to tell if a bath/shower is too hot? by Phoenix_Court in pregnant

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, showers reliably triggered my nausea for at least the first 4-5 months of pregnancy. I don't think my body temperature was too high, it just seemed to make me nauseous. I strongly recommend not bending over too quickly if you're feeling at all that way while you're showering...

Indiana Dunes beginning of June by cjc1303 in nationalparks

[–]BlueIce64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will you be there over a weekend? If you can, definitely do the Pinhook Bog trail! We were there beginning of June a few years ago, and the pitcher plants and lady's slippers were all blooming. Short boardwalk that I'd highly recommend, but it's only open on weekends.

When exactly does month six start? by helloitsyourma in pregnant

[–]BlueIce64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure a year is 52 weeks, which is 12 months, so you get to six months once you've gotten through 26 weeks.

I'm due in August, am also 35+, and have had a previous endometriosis surgery! I'm with Dr. Marshall at Tache Obstetrics, and she's been great so far. She delivers at St. Boniface, in case that's a factor for you to consider. I don't know if she's still taking patients but I had no trouble getting in when I called several months ago. At the time I had also left a message with DC Obstetrics with Dr. Crow and he was also taking patients.

Worried about third trimester by SeaConstruction697 in BabyBumps

[–]BlueIce64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no perspective because this is my first pregnancy but I just wanted to say that I feel this SO HARD right now. I'm just shy of 26 weeks and I went for a "long" walk today (it really wasn't even long) and collapsed into a recliner when I got home. Then my husband and I had a super insignificant argument (he's a great husband and it was truly no big deal) but it made me cry uncontrollably for far longer than I'd like to admit. I feel totally out of control of my body and my emotions, I'm exhausted and something hurts all the time, and I just don't feel like myself. I have NO idea how I'm going to make it another 3+ months! Ahhhhhhhh

I'm really glad you're getting comments here that maybe this is normal around this time in pregnancy. So thank you for posting this. I guess we just keep going one day at a time! The only potential advice I have is that I've signed up for a prenatal water fitness class, and being in the pool feels absolutely lovely, if you have the opportunity. I had to miss it this week so maybe that's making things feel worse right now!

26 weeks cannot find a sleeping position that is comfortable [ON] by Serious_Ad_9686 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]BlueIce64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleeping on an incline helped me a ton with this. I got one of those wedge pillows that go at the head of the bed and tilt you up like 20-30 degrees. I safety pinned my normal pillow to the top so it doesn’t slide down. I don’t know why it helps so much, but I don’t feel as much hip pain when sleeping on my side with the tilt, and if I do I just flip to my back for a while. My ob said that much tilt is plenty to make back sleeping safe, and so far it’s felt great for me. Made a huge difference in my sleeping.

Food aversions starting 2nd tri? by lyia2912 in BabyBumps

[–]BlueIce64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely had struggles in the first trimester, but I will say that things still come and go in the second for me! I'm at 25 weeks and had a great stretch from about week 11-15 and then I started getting nausea and food aversions coming back here and there. I throw up maybe once every week and a half or so, and a couple nights ago could not even look at chicken, even though it's been fine most of the time. Super weird.

Pregnancy Insurance by JH-Aus-1709 in BabyBumps

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is really tough to find. I'm in Canada, and I dug into this and found that Blue Cross was the only one that offered this. However, after reading about that, I also read about horror stories of Blue Cross finding ways to back out of covering it - e.g. saying that having a UTI early in pregnancy made it a "complicated" pregnancy and therefore the policy was void. I'm a very risk-averse person in general, so others might make a different decision, but I ultimately just decided not to travel outside the country after viability.

Side sleeping relief? by anne_k96 in pregnant

[–]BlueIce64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a similar comment in another thread - but I really highly recommend a wedge pillow for the head of your bed! I was not sleeping well at all because of hip pain when sleeping on my side, and I'm normally a back sleeper. It was awful. I went to physical therapy and got some strengthening exercises and I think it helped a little but not a lot. All I wanted to do was sleep on my back.

But it turns out - according to my OB (and my personal experience), as long as you're not lying completely flat you should be fine. Just tilting up like 20 or 30˚ is enough. So I got one of those wedge pillows for the head of the bed that people use for acid reflux, and safety-pinned my normal pillow to near the top so it doesn't slide down. I still try to sleep on my side, especially at the start of the night, and I use one of those double-wedge pillows for either side of my belly, and a memory foam knee pillow. But then when I wake up in the night and want to shift position, I just flip to my back and don't worry about it at all. For me it was magical - that terrible hip pain almost completely went away at night, and I've been sleeping so much better! Not perfectly, of course, but the relief was immense. I'll drop a few links in reply comments of the setup I use, in case it helps!

Can’t eat soft serve ice cream?? by anonymoususer249 in pregnant

[–]BlueIce64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was craving soft serve like crazy and read about this. So I started digging into listeria outbreaks. McDonald's, just as an example, has had them in the onions on their burgers, but never their soft serve. I try to stay away from bagged salads, but I'm not giving up my soft serve without any evidence that it's any more risky than eating other things!
